Are vampires mysterious and misunderstood?

Umm I was thinking about this today... and so i decided to post this randomly... so i was wondering if the vampires in the buffyverse would be considered mysterious and misunderstood... or do you guys think that they are straightforward?

In season 8, they're definitly misunderstood. Because people think they're nice...

Generally tough, in Buffy, I say 'nah'. I get the need to feed, it's not like I'm a vegetarian, but what makes them evil is mainly how they kill.

So they're considered evil and disgusting in the Buffyverse by most characters. I think that makes sense.

They're not that mysterious or misunderstood. They're evil and they like it. Pretty simple.

Of course, I'm not a 100 per cent sure what you mean.

I went with Angel and Spike. They were definitely mysterious and misunderstood at times. Don't know so much about other vamps though.

I'd say that some of them are (the main vamp cast like Angel, Spike, Drusilla) whereas most serve as stake-fodder and have zip personality to misunderstand. Take the vampire that Darla tries to get to turn her in "The Trial" (right episode?) - he's a total loser, nothing mysterious or misunderstood about him. So my vote goes for sometimes.

I feel like if Angel and Spike can be good vampires, then there can easily be other vampires out there that are not pure evil. It's not like Spike was only not-evil because he had a soul. I'm sure there are other vampires out there who like Earth just fine, and would be willing to fight the good fight to keep it. I don't know how misunderstood they are- still having to kill to eat and everything- but I don't think that they should be stereotyped as evil just because they think humans are tasty.

I think they are just evil. I mean even Angel killed a lot before he got a soul. I don't think they are misunderstood at all, yet they are somewhat mysterious which is more of a bad quaility for them to have than a good one.

I usually see a difference between "hungry" vampires and "evil" ones. The ones that just kill to fed, nothing more, shouldn't be called evil. But so far on the show, we've seen that many vampires like to play with their food before they kill it, which makes them cruel/evil.

It's the same reasons I'll never love cats completely. When they're done with torturing the mice, they leave them there to die, and go eat cat treats from their owners hands. Unless the owners are grossed out.

Meh sometimes. Depends if they are the DESTROY AND EAT THE WORLD type or if they are more like Angel, Spike and Harmony.
