I like the writing. The way that they are throwing real personalitys into fictional situations. How they made the charactors very three dimensional. I love the interactions and normal everyday issues each charactors face. How they grow and change over the series.

I love how Joss Whedon made real-life issues into supernatural problems in the show...
Examples: 6th season- Willow's addiction to magic is obviously a metaphor to drug abuse.
Or how in real life, teenagers may think that high school is a hell... well, in Buffy, it is in fact, built on the hell mouth.
And how Buffy practically had a language of it's own. It was known for creating it's own words and phrases. Such as "Five by five" (Faith) And adding much to words.
People who watch the show can relate to the character's situations in a different ways.
I love how a lot of shows sometimes had a deeper meaning.

So many reasons to not only like, but love Buffy. The superb writing, the witty dialogue, the wonderful characters, and amazing plots and storylines, that while taking place in a fantasy world, are still able to retain that element of realism and relatability. For many of us here, Buffy is far more than just a TV show, and that's why it will always be special, and unlike else on TV.

The main reason I got into Buffy was through my quest to find something that was scary, but that I could enjoy as well so it wouldn't keep me up at night.
As I became a bigger fan I appreciated the show more for its intense and realistic storylines, I'm not talking demons and monsters, I'm referring to the episodes of Buffy that deal with loss of a loved one, depression, love....themes that pwople can relate to.

I think it's mostly been covered here, but I'll add my two cents. On first viewing, it was the characters that really impressed - they have realistic emotional and social reactions to the situation they are thrown into and they develop. Part of this development is to do with the exceptional memory they exhibit for previous events, which grounds the show in time better than any show I had seen to that date.
However, this alone cannot explain why I am entering into my 25th viewing of the show and still eagerly anticipating each episodes. I think the prime factor that makes Buffy so rewatchable is the dialogue. From the first episode, the writing is very distinct from anything else on TV, before or since. Each character has their own unique style and as others have said above, the show practically creates it's own language. Thiis makes Buffy seem very fresh, even on repeat viewings.

I like Buffy because although the show is fictional, supernatural, and sci-fi it deals with real life issues. One moment Buffy will be studying for the SAT's, and the next she's patroling. Also the way the relationships are delt with. How Angel being a vampire, and then becoming Angelus once again is like when a man loses interest in a woman. It's all very realistic yet very supernatural and very surreal all at the same time.
Although Buffy is the slayer, she is still a teenage girl. She's going through the normal stages in life as a teenager, as well as trying to live day by day and trying to survive while staking vampires and the big bads. Even when Buffy grows up and goes to college in Season Four and into adult hood in Seasons Five - Seven she is still very relatable.
I just love Buffy. I love how I can relate to her on some level. How although she's the slayer, she's still human, and she's still held responsible for her actions, her life, and how she handles herself. The show puts a spin on real life situations. Using monsters and mayhem as analogies for every day activities,romance,etc..
I just love my Buffy!

I love it for all the reasons mentioned above, but to avoid being repetitive I'm gonna add something I don't think someone's mentioned yet.
Everything the characters do in this show has consequences. When a character does something out of (or in) character such as kill someone, betray smoeone, or come back from the dead, none of this is forgotten or ignored in the next episode (like you will find in so many other shows). When a character does something, it is treated realistically. Everything the characters do has its importance. Even if it's something really small.
It is one of the only shows that make fun of their chracters just as much as they treat them seriously. Even serious, frightening, deadly villains have their silly, humorous moments.
I also like that this show can scare you, make you laugh, make you cry, and excite you all in the amount of like 2 minutes. :3

The whole reason I started watching was for Spike and Buffy. Plus it's only one of the greatest show ever. There is no show just yet I have ever been this into. Lost, The X Files and Seinfeld may be close runner ups, but for me will never pass Buffy.
