Aw, reliving the whole season through this article kinda reminded me why I loved it in the first place. Every story is unique and look at that gorgeous artwork. Just what I needed to pull me out of my apathy. ;D And Dracula and Xander being in love... I wanna cry. I think to get upset about Xander/Dracula is to take it too seriously. It's just a silly joke, to see such an oddball pairing. Xander never loved Dracula, he was just under a spell. Notice after Dracula loses his powers, Xander treats him with contempt, there were no real feelings there. I think Dracula did genuinely love Xander (probably more as a friend, he was just lonely), but it was one-sided. The article didn't make it sound one-sided. "Xander and Dracula are in love with each other". Straight from the creator's mouth, pretty hard to deny. Maybe he was quoted wrong?

I don't think it had anything to do with Goddard being quoted wrongly, but just a personal interpretation of the line. To me, it sounded like how Drew was pitching the story with a headline, just to get attention first. It really didn't play out as Xander and Dracula being in love with each other. It was awkward, and played for laughs. There was definitely a sense of fondness that Dracula had for Xander, but "WatG" definitely didn't really play out as a reciprocal love story.

I figure Drew wanted to goof on the traditional love triangle... instead of both guys in love with the girl, both the girl and guy are in love with Xander. I don't think it was intended to suggest a serious relationship. But this is the first time I've ever heard one of the PTB clearly state there was more between Dracula and Xander than was stated on the printed page.
It's clear that un-charmed Xander isn't in love with Dracula, but it's also clear he doesn't see himself as a rape victim, either. I suppose some of it goes back to the unanswered question of whether or not Xander volunteered to be Dracula's thrall or not.

I suppose some of it goes back to the unanswered question of whether or not Xander volunteered to be Dracula's thrall or not. Maybe he didn't want to deal with the grief of Anya's death, and so volunteered to go under the thrall as a way of numbing/ignoring the pain. Kind of a mystical hitting the booze.

Great article! Thanks for sharing, Phil! I definitely need to buy this. I thought it was cool how Goddard laid it out there that he wanted to write a Xander/Dracula "love" story and that it's really Renee who was the odd one out there. Heh. Aw, reliving the whole season through this article kinda reminded me why I loved it in the first place. Every story is unique and look at that gorgeous artwork. Just what I needed to pull me out of my apathy. ; Yes! I so needed this article too. I was getting bogged down in a lot of the fandom negativity and the long waits between issues. Thank you, Wizard Mag!

I picked this up last week, and it's the only time I've ever bought Wizard Magazine, but Buffy was on the cover, so I had to have it.
The Dollhouse article with Eliza (and she has a cover too but I went with Buffy since Dollhouse isn't doing much for me) is only 2 or 3 pages and it's right before the Buffy season 8 section. It's nothing new and Eliza doesn't say anything people don't already know.
They sell Wizard Magazine in basically any comic book store, and hits news stands outside of comic book stores a week or two later.
The Xander/Dracula relationship is lame, and I'm going to erase Goddard's comments from my mind. I have no desire to see that storyline touched on again.
The idea that Xander stayed in touch with Dracula after Buffy Vs. Dracula is such afterthought writing, and Xander hanging out with him after Anya's death? Suuuuure.

Paul if that's the case that'd be great, but it's not clearly a lie or clearly true. I'll pretend it's Andrew telling more absurd stories though. I like it better that way. But I thought Andrew was meant to learn a lesson in season 7.......

But I thought Andrew was meant to learn a lesson in season 7....... He lied about Anya's death to Xander, and lied about Buffy/the Immortal in Angel season five. He did learn a lesson in "Storyteller" (to take responsibility for his actions) but he's still Andrew. You'd be a fool to take anything he says literally.

Joss Whedon: "Yeah, I figure I gotta kill someone. [Maybe] Buffy. I don,t think she's that popular... I don,t understand my own work. should go on the message board."
I don,t know why, but this line totally cracks me up. It's just so blatantly ridiculous on one side, then on the other side, some fans really acts as if they understand the work better than the ones who write it.
Also, since I've heard that rumor that Season 9 will take place in the future (so not directly after season 8), I'm began to think that Buffy might get killed and that the Buffy of Season 9 might not be our Buffy. For example, it might be Dawn's daughter, whom she called Buffy to honor her sister. (it would not be the first time a fictional character's child is given the name of another character form the same series. For example, Harry Potter's kids or Anakin Solo in Star Wars EU)

That was a great article, very interesting to hear Joss, Brian and Drew's opinions on the story so far.
However, it made me notice how little the scythe has been mentioned since WATG/TOYL, where it played a central role in both arcs, it's been almost a year since it's last appearance, a suspicious absence.

I don't know, I'm kinda tired of the schyte. It's a weapon, probably nothing more.
Btw, how much does this magazine cost? I've found a few ebay auctions, but I'd like to know how much it costs in the stores. I'm staying away from the auctions that says shipping will be 15 bucks. Ridicolous.

If it makes you feel any better, I once asked Scott Allie if the Scythe was going to come back into play, or if it was merely a plot device to get Buffy to NYC in "ToYL". His response: No spoilers. It would be a waste to just throw away that subplot as a mere plot device since the Scythe is supposed to be so steeped in Slayer history and mythology. But it's a history and mythology that's really sketchy at the moment.

Sky, Wizard Mazazine is about 6 bucks, I picked it up in a comic book shop. I wouldn't pay anymore than that personally.

Hey, I don't know if anybody from here authorized this, but aftermathss.blogspot.com/ used these images and translated them into Spanish. Just posting because CowboyGuy requested no linking. They're the EXACT same images. And no credit.

Looks like they've used more than just those images...take a look at the banner, that was SlayAlive's background during last Christmas! Also, they used the twilight symbol I made. No big deal, I just think it's a little lame.

Lame indeed. There was something else (can't remember what it was) that was "exclusive" to SlayAlive and they copied it without credit last year. I'm pretty sure that I commented on it, but they never put credit on it. Jeeze.
