Great article (and I don't say that often about Wizard). "Something happens to Buffy [in #30] that's never happened before, and it changes her quite a bit." Hmmm. I see Meltzer's arc is being referred to as "5 issues" here, so I guess #31 is the extra issue that gets us to 41. It makes me want to cry, hearing about the planned series of DVD movies they were going to do, which fell through. How could they fall through? It would have been like printing money. They just had to use that Renee panel, didn't they? As for Joss's last statement there, promising to kill somebody off, I don't know how much of it is kidding. If he was gonna kill Buffy (again) I assume he wouldn't tell us about it. He's just as likely to cross us up by not killing any of the good guys.

Kinda just a little excited about #31 and Meltzer's arc right now... could Dark Horse kindly just release #30 today so that we can get there a little faster. Don't even care too much about the Willow one-shot... it's backstory, and backstory that I think I already get, so mildly superfluous.

I'm looking forward to it. Plus: sexy. Interesting that Joss is trusting Brad Meltzer, a Buffyverse newbie, with probably the most important arc of the season. Hope he's up to it. I'd like to fast-forward to November 4, except it would mean missing Halloween.

You know the Willow/Saga/Kennedy backstory? I sure don't. I'm looking forward to it. Plus: sexy. I don't "know" it. But I have a decent enough idea of how the big pieces go down. The details are all I'm expecting from this one-shot, and for some God is in the details.

Cool article. Always nice to see Buffy love. I too am concerned about the events of issue 30. Sounds rather ominous to me.

I'm looking to see how Willow met SV... and whether the meeting was sought out by Willow, by Saga, or happened by chance. I want to know why Saga is so infatuated with Willow (beyond the obvious reasons) and get some clues as to what her game is. And I want to know how Kennedy and her mystical death fit into this story.

No, I don't think Phil would allow linking to the thread. These are most likely scans, and therefore "frowned upon", if not downright not so legal. So no, no linking.

I was surprised to see it clearly spelled out (for the first time, I believe?) that Xander and Dracula were in love with each other. How... creepy.

Dunno if it was clearly spelled out, or just that the subtext was actually laid out this time. In summary yes, I guess saying that there was going to be a love triangle featuring Xander, Dracula, and Renee pretty much sums it up, but it's more of a tagline - a selling point than anything else. The way it played out wasn't quite as cut and dry. There was definitely some homoerotic undertones to the whole thing, I think that much is undeniable, but love =/= thrall.

Wait, "inspiring leader near 2000 strong?" Someone hasn't done their homework.
And Dracula and Xander being in love... I wanna cry. Their story is so unfinished and I feel it's unfair. They make Xander a slave, and now Xander's a in love with the guy that enslaved him??? Is it real? Is it because of the thrall? What the **** did Dracula do to Xander???
I think this could become a great story, and I could live with the bleurgh-factor if there were enough facts. It's one thing to have Xander try to rape Buffy in the 'The Pack', that evil swim-coach in season 2 offering up Buffy up to the monsters in 'Go Fish', Spike implying he'd want to rape Willow in 'Lover's walk', Willow mind-violating Tara, Spike trying to rape Buffy, Darla doing things to Angel while he was alseep in season 2 and so on, but this is just too much.
I love season 8, and I'll definitly keep buying it, but man, Dracula's and Xander's story isn't over.
But my rant is.

Aw, reliving the whole season through this article kinda reminded me why I loved it in the first place. Every story is unique and look at that gorgeous artwork. Just what I needed to pull me out of my apathy. ;D And Dracula and Xander being in love... I wanna cry. I think to get upset about Xander/Dracula is to take it too seriously. It's just a silly joke, to see such an oddball pairing. Xander never loved Dracula, he was just under a spell. Notice after Dracula loses his powers, Xander treats him with contempt, there were no real feelings there. I think Dracula did genuinely love Xander (probably more as a friend, he was just lonely), but it was one-sided.

Great article! Love hearing about the writers talk about their work, and how they got involved. There should be more of that.
Nice teases too. Thanks Phil!

Wait, "inspiring leader near 2000 strong?" Someone hasn't done their homework. Explain. There are about 1800 Slayers out there, 500 of which work for/with Buffy (minus a bunch that have died so far). 1800 is pretty close to 2000. It's called rounding up. And they said "near 2000".

True enough, but currently, she's probably the inspiring leader for quite a few un-recruited girls. Who knows, but yeah, it's a good point that she's the inspiring leader of just her girls. My bad.
