I'm putting this under general Season 8 because I've been getting the impression that the goddesses' story might stretch beyond "Retreat." When I first read the part in Issue 29 about what was really happening when the Slayers and Willow gave up their powers, I was a little shocked. To me, this doesn't just mean a problem with three goddesses, it means betrayal. A lot of Tibetans could have known what was going on and just not said anything for religious reasons. Now it'll probably take either another retreat or an ace in the hole to keep those goddesses from killing everyone in Buffy's camp.
What is everyone else's impression of this development? What do you think will happen, and what do you hope to see happen?

It's not apparent in your original post. Please explain how it means betrayal, by whom and against whom. I think this is apparent from the previews and solicitation of #30. Something obviously profound is going to happen to Buffy in the next issue, and from the cover of #31, it looks as though Willow will be fighting at least one of the goddesses (seemingly) with her power. I don't really see it going beyond this arc, in a profound way anyways. I think its effects will carry beyond, however.

Personally i think someone is going to die.
Willow summoned the Tibetan goddesses to help the fight with Twilight huge army of incredible trained disposable soldiers. The slayers are forced to retreat once again, when the Goddesses go AWOL and attack indiscriminately. And Willow has the power to stop the Goddess by attacking the slayer army. So it’s a big huge big battle between everyone. But who is going to be victorious and who is going to die.

Willow summoned the Tibetan goddesses to help the fight with Twilight huge army of incredible trained disposable soldiers. Actually, it is implied that it's Buffy who does the summoning. Bay's too injured to help with the reading of the scrolls, and she tells Buffy and Willow that as long as they have any anger in them, they can use that instead of chanting a bunch of mumbo-jumbo. Buffy responds that she has plenty of anger, and the next thing you know, goddesses appear. I'm not saying that Willow didn't do it, or at least help, but the text suggests that it's Buffy who does the actual summoning.

Thanks, because all the magics went in the earth and thats how they can summon the goddesses. I think somebody is going to die in the next arc or issue, do you agree.??

I think the summoning was a joint effort by angry Buffy and angry Willow.
I don't expect the Goddesses will be direct participants in the story beyond this arc, or #31.
I would think that when the goddesses turn on the Slayers, that will invalidate the "power-for-protection" contract they have, and the Slayers and Wiccans should get their powers back at that point. But I'm usually wrong about things like this.
I have a feeling that #31 is going to be an internal "spirit journey" for Buffy like the one with Ethan Rayne in TLWH. But I'm usually wrong about things like that, too.
Season 8 has a way of consistently wrong-footing me and throwing off my expectations. Either that's because the writers are several steps ahead of me (like they're supposed to be), or I'm just not very perceptive. (Or the story is illogical, which is an accusation I'm not willing to make. Yet.)

Well, if stories were predictable, they'd be boring. I like making predictions, but I welcome surprises

I agree that the goddesses were summoned by a joint angry effort between Buffy and Willow. As for the contract, it might not really be like a legal binding agreement because it's higher beings against people they were able to take power from. It would be weird if a plot twist like this took only one issue to resolve, but I've been wrong before. Probably all Buffy and the others have to do is leave the country of worship to survive, but there's also the matter of getting their power back from wrathful beings that have no reverence for life.

Well, the wrathful goddesses are protectors of Tibet, which means they'll probably attack anyone non-Tibetan they see... starting with Twilight's men, and then moving on to the Slayers. Bay and Kelden should be safe... and maybe Oz if they consider him an "honorary" Tibetan by now.
It might be possible to reason with them if they can find a way to communicate. They're not mindless monsters, after all. They're just protective and really, really angry.

The Slayers are forced to retreat when the goddesses go AWOL and attack indiscriminately, on the slayers ,no power would seem that all is lost, and Buffy all alone must make her last stand on a battlefield covered in the bodies of friends and foes.So who is going to be victorious after the brutal aftermath. I think the only person can stop the gods now, is willow. She has the power to stop them ,i hope.
