Which we've currently reached on our rewatch on the Buffytube part of the forum if you want a bigger explanation. It's interesting to see how things work out between the couples.
Dawn/Buffy; know each other for less that 30 seconds and they're both already enjoying Buffy stroking Dawn's hair, the traditional way the Summer's women express affection. Again, are they more than just sisters as other eps have hinted at?
Dawn/Xander; she seems to really enjoy him helping her down the ladder
Willow/Tara; love each other. Interestingly though Willow says she's 'kinda gay' as she says in Dopplegangland, the 'kinda' perhaps implying her being bi?
Willow/Xander; he's attracted to her but she seems unsure. He then thinks that she dates his brother? Speaks of his insecurity and perhaps the platonic love between them?
Anya/Giles; she adores him as a father figure (like D'Hoffryn?) and he adores her as a surrogate daughter (like Buffy?). What's interesting is that she doesn't seem to be attracted to Xander and vice versa, maybe she's more in love with the idea of Xander than the reality?
Spike/Buffy; Spike secretly wants to be Angel. Because he wants to be like his 'big brother' Angelus or because he thinks that way Buffy will love him?
Giles/Spike; we never meet Spike's dad, he's never even mentioned. As divorce was taboo in Victorian times it suggests he died young which was much more commonplace. One wonders if it might have been a similar relationship to Wes and his dad?

Again, are they more than just sisters as other eps have hinted at? Do you mean the way Dawn was in a sense made from Buffy, and is arguably not just her sister, but also another version of herself?

Those are really interesting theories. I'd like to learn more details on the Giles/Anya and Giles/Spike relationships.

It wasn't done on purpose but the Dawn/Xander moment foreshadowed their relationship in Season 8.

Yeah, in eps like All the Way and The Body Buffy just seems to know that Dawn's in trouble and where to find her. And in Bargaining Dawn just seems to know Buffy is alive and where to find her. Buffy herself says it in The Gift, Dawn is more than a sister to her, she feels closer than that to her, like a physical sensation I think there are a few more instances but you'll have to look through the Buffytube rewatch reviews for them

It just shows all those people who say idiotic things like 'Well Dawn was nothing to Buffy. They're not even related', that they were something to each other. Sisters or not, they were part of each other.

Dawn is maybe best described as Buffy's clone? Either way she IS Joyce's little girl and the Buffy's reason for everything she does and she belongs to them both

Spike/Buffy; Spike secretly wants to be Angel. Because he wants to be like his 'big brother' Angelus or because he thinks that way Buffy will love him? Neither, Angelus will never be a hero and Spike doesn't look up to Angel, he looked up to Buffy as the example of what a true hero is. He's a blank slate in this episode and we see from his subconcious that he always wanted to be the hero and also in what way Spike is unique. Without the rules of the world, Dru,Angelus, evil and good, Spike wanted to be on the side of good. Buffy also has nothing to do with it, he doesn't know who she is and that he's in love with her. Yet they do accept eachother very quickly and fight side by side. Makes you wonder how different things would have been if Spike had been the soulled vampire that came to Buffy in season1, imo a lot.

Sounds like a good fanfic! But I disagree, everyone is not a total blank slate, Buffy/Dawn and Tara/Willow still sense their passion for each other etc So as I see it Spike still has his feelings for Buffy and is still maybe in love with Buffy only because Angel is? And of course you could always say that to Angel Buffy is just Darla with a soul, she's like Darla if she was the complete package, just as Spike becomes when he get's his soul back

Kratos made a good point. I do wonder now how things would have turned out if Spike had come to Buffy in Season 2 with a soul instead of trying to kill her. In my personal opinion I think Spike should have had a soul for more than just Season 7. There's so much they could have done with him that they didn't. Same with all the other characters at some point or another.

I dunno about you, but to me, that goes to show how awesome this show is if you're still seeing the potential for these characters till the very end.
