Which Buffy episodes really give the actors (or one specific actor) a chance to seriously showcase their abilities? The first three that come to mind: Doppelgangland -- Alyson Hannigan. First, there are so many lines that she just delivers perfectly. (See page 2 of this thread.) But second, she has to play four different characters -- Willow, Vamp Willow, Willow pretending to be Vamp Willow, and Vamp Willow pretending to be Willow -- and convey to the audience which one she's being at the moment, while also making the deceptions within the story plausible. The Body -- Sarah Michelle Gellar. No banter, no jokes, no flippant remarks. This episode gave SMG a chance to show that she can play incredible emotional depths. Who Are You? -- Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza Dushku. Very interesting to see each of them adopting the mannerisms of the other's character,

>I agree with you in that Doppelgangland was a great episode for Alyson. That's one of my favorite episodes because of Alyson's amazing performance. >Sarah M. Gellar and Eliza in "Who Are You" >James Marsters in "Fool for Love". >Amy Acker in "A Hole in the World". >David Borneanaz in "Passions". >Charisma Carpenter in "Birthday". >Tom Lenk in "Storyteller". >Mercedes McNab in "Harm's Way"
those are some that i can think of at the top of my head.

I would definitely add SMG in "Normal Again". Her psychiatric hospital scenes are the embodiment of despair.

The body. So realistic. And the emotion of Buffy finding her mother dead on the sofa and saying heart wrenching words, i just felt she did a magnificent job.

Innocence really shows SMG's acting ability. She really plays the "devastated" look so well. Much better than that stupid Kristin Stewart actress.

The first one I think of is definitely The Body. - Sarah Michelle Gellar
The Becoming for David Boreanaz because he does such a good job going from good to evil. Angelus seems COMPLETELY different and totally fascinating every time I see him. There are a coupe of times in other shows when I think he has a little difficulty being Angelus but it a rarity.
Innocence - Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz
Who Are You - Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza Dushku
The Grave - Alyson Hannigan and Nicholas Brendon
Beneath You - James Marsters
Lies My Parents Told Me - James Marsters
Angel Shows:
Five By Five - Eliza Dushku
To Shanshu In L.A. - David Boreanaz because in that one episode he goes from detached, passionate to happy and all are moving and believable(I just saw this last night too)
The Shroud Of Rahmon - David Boreanaz
A Hole In The World - Amy Acker

Beneath You - James Marsters Kudos for bringing this one up - a truly superb piece of acting. Karma!

The Pack: Nicholas Brendon
The Body: Everyone in the freaking cast (Why they don't all have emmys for that I don't know)
Storyteller: Tom Lenk
The Killer In Me: Adam Busch, Alyson Hannigan
Pangs: James Marsters (No one could've made the line "You made a bear" that funny, no one)
Band Candy: Anthony Head, Kristine Sutherland, Armin Shimerman
Prophecy Girl: Sarah Michelle Gellar
