I have "Chopped" and I have "Screwed", and I have very nearly completed a Dollhouse fan-edit-y thing. It's quite depressing to see how much plot we would could have had with the original pilot, but obviously FOX tested this with a group of gerbils and PE teachers and decided no-one would follow. I think I liked Boyd more in "Ghost", but he was the only character that resonated for me in it. I'm really disappointed that I can't just ignore episodes 1-5 and watch this in their place I'd love to chop and screw and remake the season based on this. LOL "Chop and Screw" SO yeah... I went and did that^^ Basically what I've done is refined the first 5 episodes of Dollhouse into 2 that can sit alongside the original pilot episode. I'm wondering if when I'm done anyone would be interested in seeing it for themselves, cause I could look for ways to put them up for download etc. The episodes that remain are "Gray Hour" and "The Target", with necessary alterations to fit between the pilot and episode 6.

I think I would FREAKING LOVE TO SEE THAT! I've wanted the same exact thing too so I would love to have an opportunity to see "Lite" version of the beginning of this show.

I'd love to see them! You'll totally have ot finish! Will they still make sense with the rest of the season?! This could be really fun. I tried to get my mom to watch the show, because she loves shows that make us wonder about the human mind. She didn't the episode 1 all that much, and I told her the first five are just 'baby steps'. -_- She won't watch anymore! Maybe I'll just show her the Original Pilot, and these? It would be awesome if she watched this show.

My goal is that it'll flow seamlessly, but I'm sure there will be a couple of issues along the way. I can say for one that I've had issues with Mr. Dominic's attempt on Echo's life. Thats the only thread that I can't place in any context other than the full episode it came from. THat may have to play out as learned information later on... we'll see.
I'm actually very far into the editing process, I started planning and researching a couple of weeks ago and started editing over the weekend. Both episodes are in sequence and come in at under 48 minutes just as the originals did.
Gray hour has fairly minor changes. I've retooled it to play more obviously as a 2nd episode by incorporating pieces from "Ghost" at the start (including switching out the Boyd and Topher dialogue as it was from the original pilot). I kept the baby engagement as there's speculation that the location will be significant later. Also, I trimmed some of the swimming shots in the final montage as it was more reuse and replaced it with workout stuff I pinched from "Stage Fright"
The Target is more extensively altered. Ballard's stuff had to be re-arranged/removed, adding him receiving the Caroline video and I've added Topher and Saunder's discovery of Victor's "Man-Reaction".
I would like to represent the pilot as well, the only change being removing the "Caroline" from the end (as it's now how the season ends); but I'm having trouble decrypting a large chunk of that episode for some reason. Hopefully I can get around it
I'll update with upload progress as I go, god I hope they don't suck now lololol

I really hope to have this ready for upload soon because the creative (ergo - fun) part has been finished for a while and now all that's left is the annoying technical things.
The edits are done. Found another DVD decrypter so I could do a tiny edit on the pilot as well (adding the Alpha sending Ballard post scene from the end of "Ghost").
I've started trying to convert it into playable/burnable files and it's proving to be an utter wanker. I've spent the last few days trying to make progress but all I seem to hit is dead-ends and it's killing my poor laptop. So, so bored lol

Finally managed to export my edits into vaguely useful file-types (avi), and I'm currently uploading. The quality has taken a knock so I could upload them, but I can get to work on larger files at a later date. First episode up... Dollhouse episode 2: Gray Hour www.megaupload.com/?d=8M0O1Y8PI will be uploading my episode 3 as well as a minorly altered version of the pilot that removes the "Carloine" line that is repeated in the season finale. It will be replaced with the Alpha sequence from "Ghost". Holla if there's any issues. Happy downloading.

One question. How do you rip your DVD's onto an editing software?

Episode 1 is the original Pilot. I will be upping a version that removes the repeated Caroline but essentially it's unchanged. You could watch the one you got on the DVD and be fine Lord knows why I didn't upload them in order lol, it's predicting 7 hours until it's ready for download now for some reason. I will post as soon as I can. I can't wait! I 'm gonna watch them right away! lol One question. How do you rip your DVD's onto an editing software? I edit with Adobe Premiere, and use either DVD Decrypter or DVD Fab to rip the files off the DVD. The latter is especially useful as it can rip into a number of formats (generic avi's, ipod format, psp format and the DVD file VOB) If you rip into VOB and simply change the file extension to MPG, it becomes compatible with Premiere. There's also a codec you download and place into the Adobe folder of Program Files in order to make the audio work because sometimes there will be problems with that, but once it was done I've had no problems. It's been quite a learning curve I can tell you lol

Erm I ripped it in avi but apparently Windows Media Player is rubbish, lol. Try this, it's free and plays like... everything: www.vlcmediaplayer.org/
