Does anybody else think Buffy looks younger than her usual Season 7 self in "Him"?
Her look in the teaser, for instance, when she's talking with Dawn on the bleachers. Something about sitting there with big sunglasses and drinking a soda makes her look almost like Season 1 or Season 2 Buffy. And the way her hair is done in the rest of the episode makes her look a little younger than normal as well.
I'm wondering if the effect was intentional -- a way of softening the creepiness factor of seeing her macking on a 17-year-old. Granted, the whole thing happened because of a spell, and the fact it was creepy and wrong was the whole point, but seeing our heroine acting that was was still kind of disturbing. Could the creators have been trying to make her look a little younger in order to soften that effect?

Good point. I have always thought that Buffy sitting on the bleachers wearing shades and sipping soda was very reminiscent of year one Buffy. It definitely gives that vibe for sure. Whether or not that was intentional on the part of the writers I can't say, but it very well could have been!

Yes, deliberate attempt on her part to blend in with the schoolkids. And of course when she's seduces RJ she wears a little plaid schoolgirl skirt to make herself look even younger. Not that I'm complaining

Agreed. I definitely think the wardrobe this ep was also in attempt to make her seem younger and blend in with the kids, most noteably, as you mentioned, the catholic school girl outfit worn when suducing (lucky) RJ. . I can certainly see the argument that the writers may have put all these things in play deliberately to help soften the blow of our heroine's transgression.

SMG's warderobe is one of the best things about this episode - she looks so carefree for one brief, glorious episode before she has her sense of humour surgically removed for the latter half of the season.

Haha. true. It is nice to have that more light-hearted moment before things start to get uber serious. A lot of fans don't care for this episode, but I like that it is sort of homage to the earlier days of Buffy when things were more carefree for the scoobies. If nothing else this ep is certainly good for a laugh.

I love this episode! And I thought SMG's hairstyles were particularly cute in this ep. I think it's interesting if they intentionally made her look younger in this episode, considering in the first episode of season 7 I think they made her look older so that the whole "I look like a mom?" gag would work

I'm wondering if the effect was intentional -- a way of softening the creepiness factor of seeing her macking on a 17-year-old. Maybe the funniest thing about that whole situation was that the actor who played RJ is actually a year older than SMG! Along those same lines, the teaser of "Seeing Red", where Willow and Tara are in bed together and Tara gives away Buffy's secret about her and Spike (which just a few eps earlier she swore she'd never do, BTW), there's a shot of Willow where she looks so much like she did back in S1/2. (It's the shot where she says "Together? You mean like the naked kind of together?") Just always makes me smile. ;D

That is strange o.0 And in Tara's defense, I think she figured it was okay since almost everyone else found out on their own by that time. The secret was out. And I love that scene too! Willow is adorable.

I thought she looked "hot", especially with her skirt and black shirt,

She'd have looked hotter with a white blouse but then she might have well have started singing "Hit me baby one more time"

Thats what i was thinking as well. I thought i was the only person who thought that but you lot also thought that as well, lol. She looked like season 1 buffy. That was so cool. Plus i loved the episode. I often compare this episode to Witch as well. It felt like going back to the beginning.

^^ Good point that this ep seems very reminiscent of early Buffy. Amidst all the craziness in S7, it is nice to be able to sort of go back and pay homage to those early years, when it all started. I know "Him" is not generally regarded as a favorite amongst fans, but I think it is a light hearted, funny episode. Although, nothing light-hearted about this ep from Dawn's perspective, I suppose.

I think she'll look back on it fondly as I'm sure Buffy looks back at Owen or Xander at BBB

After helping your sister defeat an army of thousands of crazed Ubervamps led by the source of all earthly evil and then watching your entire town be swallowed by a huge hole in the ground, I imagine being bewitched by a magical letter jacket would start to seem pretty trivial...
