I hate to admit it, but I have lost interest. What really made me give up on it was when I found out it wasn't to canon anymore. Plus I'm not really feeling this Willingham guy. Oh why can't Lynch and/or Whedon get back to writing Angel? Does anybody else feel the same way? Or should I not give up on it just yet?

You're not the only one. I've pretty much given up on the Angel series after #32, due to the bad writing and characterisation. And I've mosty given up on the Angel character due to his actions in Buffy season 8. The only character from Angel that I'm interested in really is Spike and that's only due to season 8, not Willingham's writing. It's a shame that it seems like Joss isn't really interested in the Angel series, as it hasn't been great since the end of ATF, but I do claim solace in the fact that it's not canon

Sorry you feel that way - but no point continuing something if you are not enjoying it! Although I'm not sure this needed a whole new thread just to tell us you are not reading something anymore:)
Although on a personal note I am enjoying it...and I would rather read a good "non-canon" story than the awful tripe that Season 8 has morphed into - I dont care how canon it is.

I have to say too i gave on this a WHILE back. The only issue i really enjoyed of Angel was the Drusilla one to tell you the truth. It kinda is very confusing with the whole 'Twilight as Angel' thingy. And i am almost about to give up on season 8 too if it doesn't get better. I liked it up until the whole Angel thing.

It's annoying that it's being de-canonised because many people paid a price for it that they wouldn't ahve otherwise, i'm going to stick with it though purely because with the kicking out of James and fading-into-the-background of Dez it seems to be turning in a different directiona nd I don't want to give up befroe I can see where the new path is heading

Is it that many people that assumed that the Angel series (After Angel After the fall) was canon? There's probably some, but I've never read anyone on a forum say "It's 100 per cent canon to me, that's why I buy it". I always saw it as non-canon,-but-better-than-nothing-and-will-possibly-be-proved-to-be-canon-one-day.
And Moon Eyes, maybe you'll want to read Lynch Spike series. If it ever starts publishing. It was suppose to come out sometime this summer, but I don't think we've heard anything about it since the huge Twilight spoilers and we got that Spike promo, and that was a while ago. I really hope Spike and Angel showing up in Season 8 didn't make IDW think investing in a Spike series was a bad idea (it would scare me, not having a clue what will be done with the main character by another company, which could make any of their plots moot or contradictory to canon).
I really think the Spike series would bring readers back, even to the main series. To be honest, I might stop reading for a while if I don't get the Spike series. As it is now, I'm hardly even tempted to buy the singles issues 28-32. I can wait until July or August for the hardcover. Maybe even longer.

I read the final Lynch issues out of loyalty but "Angel" wrapped for me at ATF. I'll probably check out Lynch's "Spike" in trades.
Season 8 is awful but I may as well stick around until the end now. I'll be selling it on right after though. The only arc that truely nailed it was "No Future For You", but that was long ago and doesn't say much for "Buffy" (being Faith's story and all).

I disagree about S8 I think that one's doing pretty well- I really enjoyed the Retreat Arc and am looking forward to seeing if Joss can handle what he's gotten himself into, because if he has one of his moments of brilliance it could be epic (alternatively it could tank but you know . . .)
I did actually believe Angel post-Atf was canon, I didn't join the forum until I was an arc or two in and until then it had never really ocurred to me that there was a distinct difference between Atf and the following issues, so if you'd ahve asked me then I would have said it was 100% canon. I guess I'm still naively clinging to that belief, I can't believe they'd make me pay £2.99 for glossy fanfic

I stopped reading the Angel comics about a year ago. They just fell apart and I wasn't enjoying them at all. I can't believe I even got through Aftermath. I'm sticking with Buffy season 8 though, even through the frustrations they are interesting.

I am seriously looking forward to the Spike ongoing series though, because Bryan Lynch ahs a real gift when it comes to characterisation and anything with Betta George in is worth buying!

Is it confirmed that we'll get George for the series?
I guess it's not that weird after all if people believed post-Atf was canon-y. Specially if they read Joss calling Atf canon.
I always thought they shouldn't have continued the numbering with Aftermath, because I assumed it would make "uninformed" people believe it was on the same level of canon-ness as Atf. But on the other hand, it made it easier for people to follow the series than if they had re-started a "new" series, which would have made people unsure of what to read first and where it all fit(which people are anyway, becasue of the one-shots and spin-offs).

Bill Willingham's FABLES and JACK OF FABLES are two of my favorite comics series of all time. He's a great writer with the right characters. Unfortunately, I don't think he has a very good handle on the Angel characters.
I'm certainly looking forward to the Spike series, though. That looks to be a great lineup, full of Brian's best characters. Hope we get to see Non again too, as well as Noelle the creepily sexy sadecki demon. (Non and Noelle go to Vegas... now there would be an interesting storyline...)

Ryall also says this:
The series will also feature an appearance by a popular Whedonverse character who’s only ever appeared in the BUFFY comics (and her own one-shot there, if that hint wasn’t enough before).
Are we going to see Willow in Spike?
Edit:
Interesting Theory from Allycat at Whedonesque:
BTW: Total conspiracy theory here...
In Twilight Part V, Willow says "This is gonna be good." when she sees the ship. How come she already knows Spike is in it? Will this new Lynch-penned Spike series explain?
Is the reason that this series was pushed back a few months, because the final parts of S8 were also pushed back? Allycat | June 07, 13:11 CET

That's awesome! I was giving up hope, but now it seems we're getting the series some day.
And I really hope Allycat is right.

Some kind of crossover between Buffy and Angel, no matter how small, would provide some much needed credibility to both series. Given Brian and Joss' previous collaboration, I hope we'll get one here.
