So, SDCC 1020 officially begins today (preview night was last night). And as per usual, there'll probably be more than a few Buffy-related announcements. From previous experience, Comic Con can be kind of a zoo when it comes to announcements. So to greatly simplify things, please post any Comic Con news here. You may also post on the appropriate thread if it already exists, but this will serve as a collecting bowl so that people who just want to read one thread instead of hunting down the others can just make this a one-stop shop. Thanks...

Is this just for Buffy S8 news or all Joss-related news? Because as I type this, the Joss Whedon/J. J. Abrams panel is going on right now.

Well, he says he's officially directing The Avengers (Woot!) and that he's been talking to Warren Ellis about working on something together (Double Woot!) But there wasn't much about Buffy. I suspect he's saving the good stuff for his own panel tomorrow.

Newsarama is covering the Dark Horse panel LIVE. Check it out HERE. "Lots of tears" promised for "Last Gleaming", but I don't think that's either really news to anyone, or unexpected of Joss. Oh... and Spike is back! Really?! Huh?

Wow, Dark Horse had like no Whedony news. And nothing on the Guild? Perhaps there will be more when they have their own panel?

Joss has another session tonight, if I recall correctly. Dark Horse is more than just Buffy, and so it's understandable that they're talking about other stuff.

Gee, and here I thought "Last Gleaming" was going to be a Laugh-a-palooza!
Does this mean I should put away my Groucho glasses, big floppy shoes and spinning bowtie that squirts water?
Actually, I don't think Joss's panel is for a couple of hours yet. That's where the big announcements will probably be.

Joss didn't say a whole lot in his joint panel with J. J. Abrams either, despite the fact that he talked more than Abrams. Only big thing was that he finally confirmed he's REALLY directing the Avengers film. *shrug* I dunno if there's a whole lot left to talk about re: Season Eight that isn't terribly spoilery. We already know that August will see the Riley one-shot, and then Last Gleaming. Anything else... eh, we'll see.

Well, what I'm hoping to hear is:
* Any news about season 9 (time, writers, artists, length, format, etc.)
* Anything Buffy-comic related that will be happening between seasons 8 and 9... that's gonna be a long, tough wait
* Anything regarding Buffy stuff in other media (Ripper miniseries?)
* Hints (not spoilers) about the final arc.

In reading the CBR coverage I saw one interesting quote about the Riley One-Shot: The editor said the "Riley" one-shot would reveal how Buffy's Angel became the series antagonist Twilight
I think it is interesting that they said the Riley one shot would tell us how Angel became Twilight. Is that a HUGE part of the story?

Interesting bit of news, jellymoff. For those interested in reading the full article, click HERE. This just tweeted by Buffyfest: SCOTT ALLIE IS CO-WRITING THE LAST S.8 ARC. ETA: No real big news other than the one in spoiler tags. No spoilers, and from all accounts, no big S8 announcements. They're really keeping this close to breast. Probably still too soon to be talking about S9, since that would probably ruin a couple of twists along the way.

Huh. Didn't Scott say quite recently, in no uncertain terms, that he was not interested in writing Buffy?
This sounds like he had to come in because Joss couldn't get it done. While I'm sure Scott will do a good job, I'm not sure this is good news in light of what he's said before. ETA: Scott going out of his way to mention that season 8 will end with "a lot of tears" has me about 99% convinced that we're going to lose a main character. My money is still on Giles or Dawn.

I'm not sure it's gonna be Giles. I think it's either Dawn or Xander, and perhaps because Xander is more popular than Dawn, it could be him -hence the a lot of tears.

I think if Joss ever kills off Xander or Willow (permanently), it won't be until he completely wraps up Buffy's story. Those two are just too valuable to the story. It wouldn't be BtVS without them. But, I could be wrong. Here's a blog post Scott Allie made from the convention yesterday. No huge revelations, but a couple of interesting points: * He spoke with a writer who is under consideration as one of the season 9 writers... apparently a Buffy fan, but not one of the show writers. * Scott says this writer is "specifically interested in a character I sort of need help with" in season 9. Make of that what you will. * He says he and Joss need to get together and figure out how to juggle "The Avengers" with finishing up season 8. This makes me think the decision for Scott to co-write the final arc might have been made right there at the con.
