Last Airbender didn't suck because 3D was added. It sucked because Shamalamadingdong took an excellent cartoon (maybe one of the best ever), and sucked everything fun out of it, turned the dialogue into wood, and shot it.

It sucked worse because of the tacked-on 3-D. If a movie isn't shot with the director and cinematographer thinking "3-D" right from the start, then it's not going to work right in 3-D. Not that it really adds anything to movies most of the time anyway, except for 50% to the ticket price.

Maybe that took it from a 0/10 to a -1/10, but there's not much visuals can do to make a movie THAT bad worse.

I think he said at CCI that, because MGM is in a big money pit right now, they might not get around to doing the 3D conversion. Either way, Joss Drew shot for 2D so that's how I'm going to see it. No point in spending extra money on a bad conversion.
ETA: Actually, I think Drew Goddard directed the film. So I bow to him and his 2D-ness. Point still stands - why waste money on bad 3D?

Can finally read this thread! I was about to explode from GIF overload but then... I love you Emmie. What a disappointing Comic Con Buffyverse wise. None of this news excites me. Some good Season 9 stuff in the Buffyfest Allie interview, but overall... damn. I'm looking forward to Lynch's Spike series, but I was hoping it'd just do its own thing, establish its own story. Tying into Season 8 is probably going to cause even more headaches. Yay for a new Angel writer, but I'll pass. Same goes for Illyria. And major confusion on Allie co-writing the final arc. I just... don't get it. Two and a half issues writing the characters on his own?! I won't be surprised if it's fail. Ugh, I miss all the excitement. Now it's just "meh".

I'm shocked. I think, aside from the Allie thing, this is the best Comic-Con for Buffyverse announcements. By far.

Allie's not writing on his own. He's writing based on the outline he hammered out with Joss, and Joss is going back over the dialog. Allie's pretty much just doing structural stuff.

Ok well I'm glad to see Spike and Angel will be well looked after on the set of Buffy season 9, and I'm also glad to see the commen about Angel fading into the background a bit, because I think there's more that needs addressing with Spike right now than Angel, and I wasn't sure the balance between the 2 would ensure that

I think part of the reason some are saying this was, at the least, a lackluster Comic Con for Buffy was because all that came out of it was comic book news.
No new show (of any kind), no new toys, not even anything new said about the motion comics.
So for those that don't read the comics, there was nothing new Buffy to report. I was really hoping for a new toyline.

The big news about BtVS over the last few years has always been about comics. And perhaps it's a burnout factor, because objectively speaking, I think we got the same amount of stuff as the previous Cons, but this time around, because we've been with this for so long now, it feels like more was needed to feel like all this waiting was justified. That and the fact that more exciting stuff broke at EDCC, with the actual announcement of S9 then. In fact, I'd venture that Buffyfest's interviews with the Whedon-verse people were actually way better than what was actually announced, simply because of the amount of detail we got. Our interview came later, approx. a week after SDCC, so I'm not counting it.
