Hi people i'm new to this branch of the forum.
As you may have read in my "disappointed" thread in Buffy s.8 section, i'm not that into Joss' season eight, i was expecting a lot more.
A comic that still makes me go crazy, and is becoming my new god, is Angel:After the Fall. It's just genius! I wasn't that interested when the news broke, especially cos Joss was not going to take over his "exec. producer" duties on that one as well.
But it's fantastic! The plot, the characters, the stories, the dialogues, it all feels EXACTLY like the show. I'm in love with it, and i'm currently trying to convert all my s.8 lovers to this comic.
My point is - this comic DESERVES to become a proper, full, ongoing series (or franchise, since they're already planning that spike spin-off) on IDW. I want angel s.6, s.7 and s.8 - it's not fair we only get 12 issues, while Buffy gets 12 issues to fool around with Satsu!
So can anyone tell me if there are any chances that angel s.6 stops being a miniseries and becomes a full series? In case there's no plan for this, can we do something about it? we can let it fade away..AGAIN!
cheers

It was never a mini-series. It's always been a maxi-series of aprox. twelve issues. Now, that's since been extended and will be something like 14 or 15, probably. I really don't think they'd extend "After the Fall" to be an on-going, but I'm sure they'll do something else with the franchise after "After the Fall" is done.

It's definitely not a regular series, it's coming to an end around 15 or 16. But with the SPIKE books, that's almost 20 new ANGEL books, so that's good, right?
Hoooray!

I don't want an on-going series. It's my major problem with Season 8. I'd absolutely welcome more Angel, but I quite like the 15ish issue limit.

They obviously can't make After the Fall a full series; spending that many issues trying to get out of hell would get a little old and they'd run out of ideas fast. But I'd want some sort of continuation after it's over.

it's not fair we only get 12 issues, while Buffy gets 12 issues to fool around with Satsu! Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Of the 12 issues so far, only 7 have even featured Buffy in the main role, and only 2 of those have focused on the Buffy/Satsu thing. That's part of the reason I think the criticism that S8 hasn't had much depth to it is unfair: after "The Long Way Home" ended in #4, we really didn't get back to Buffy herself in any substantial way 'til #10, three issues ago. In a lot of respects, the season's just getting started. As successful as ATF has been for IDW, I really doubt the story won't continue after this series ends. In some respects, I like the idea of a mini-series better than the 40 issues of S8, because I feel like the story is tighter and more focused, and there isn't as much 'foot-dragging', like has seemed to be the case at times in S8. If they announce another 8- or 10-issue mini-series after this, then another one after that, I'd be very happy...

well come to think about it, a more focused s.6, divided into mini-series would be great
as long as they keep bringing angel on

The way Dark Horse treated the Angel franchise (Angel, Cordelia and Doyle for, like, ever) and especially Spike (2.5-dimensional Season 2 Spike for, like, ever), I really don't want them to win back the rights -- like, ever.

Yes! IDW keep the Angel licence! They have done great things with it. I'm hoping IDW and Dark Horse can come up with an agreement to use Spike and Angel in Season 8 IF they are needed, I mean, does Buffy even know if Spike's alive? But IDW needs to keep the licence!

Yes, exactly. Joss seemed optimistic about his chances of working out an agreement to use Angel and Spike in Seasons 8 and 9 of Buffy, without having to buy back the rights to Angel.
Joss Whedon: I do have plans for Spike, but the Angel franchise to which Spike defected is in fact owned by another comic-book company, so all that has to be worked out... and is indeed being worked out. (TVGuide)
Joss Whedon: Spike and Angel I will definitely use, but sparingly. But I would do that anyway. You don't want to use it up by having Spike standing around in the background of every frame. He means so much to Buffy, so did Angel, that you want to save them for the big hits. (GeekMonthly)

After the Fall absolutely needs to end at the right time. Brian has said on many occasions that this particular story is finite and so it should finish when it needs to. I do, however, want to see further canon stories from Angel's corner of the Buffyverse in the future. Maybe not a "season" though. Further maxi series would work much better for the style of storytelling that suits Angel. Around 12 - 15 issues each, telling a certain tale and then ending in a nice hardcover trade friendly fashion, hehe. And, obviously, as much canon Spike as possible.

15 or 16 issues?! That's great! I still thought that it was only 12. Excellent. And with Spike: After The Fall coming I'm so excited for nearly 20 Angel-based comics that are canon! Thanks for letting us know Brian.

I could of sworn I read somewhere that ATF would become a regular series from support wanting more, but I read that like a month or so ago and I can't remember where it was I read it
