After having read some of Fray, I now know about the whole end of magic thing through Joss and not fans. (No offense.). So, here's the thing:
In FRAY, Urkon says that the last Slayer and possibly a few mystical allies went into an apocalyptic battle, yada yada yada. But wouldn't Urkon have known if it had been hundreds of Slayers against the demons? "A few mystical allies"?
I wouldn't be surprised if the end of Season Eight will bring the end of all of the Slayers that shouldn't be. I believe the vampires from Tokyo could succeed in removing the Slayers of their powers, except for Buffy. After that, Season Nine could end with the end of magic and the possible death of a blonde Slayer through a portal.
I apologize if this has already been discussed.

I think it's more likely that Season 8 will end with the end of magic. I think that'd be extremely unexpected for most fans. Scott told me right after Issue 1 hit stands that there'd be a Season Nine.

I don't think the Tokyo vamps will succeed in un-slayerizing the all of the scythe slayers (at least in Issue 15) because we see Vi and Kennedy in the variant cover for Issue 16; that isn't to say they couldn't do it later.
To be frank, all we know is that it was a slayer who waged battle against the forces bent to displace magic, and all we saw was a caucasian hand with fingernail polish sticking out from the portal. We don't know if that is a slayer, blond or otherwise. Along the same lines, we don't know if there were any scythe slayers left at the final battle; just because Urkonn didn't mention it doesn't mean it wasn't the case.

What the hell would season 9 do without magic? "Buffy the regular person"

At some point, I think these slayers will go poof. What the hell would season 9 do without magic? "Buffy the regular person" LMAO. Exactly.

I think this demon guy wasn't there. Where did Urkonn get the info? Perhaps he was at the battle, got banished, and returned near the same time the lurks appeared. (By the way, I think it is Drusilla in the variant issue #17 cover, and I think returned to this dimension to be the sire of all lurks). Then again, perhaps he was not at the battle. We haven't got a clue, and that's the truth.
Personally, I think he got the info from those two yellow demons who show up sporadically around Fray. They seem to be the puppet-masters, and they mentioned beaching a portal twice, something to do with sending a cadre of demons to deal with a slayer.
Maybe the powers sent demons after Buffy to quell the slayer line for a time (like she drained the essence summoning all the scythe slayers), and Buffy could only defeat them by ridding the world of magic? Talk about heat between Buffy and Willow.

What the hell would season 9 do without magic? "Buffy the regular person" For one or two issues? Maybe. I think that'd be hella interesting. I agree, for one or two issues that would be interesting. But we know that magic doesn't come back until Fray's time. So... I don't think it could be limited to one or two issues.

Bound material makes it pretty concrete, lol. I don't see Joss writing Fray and S8 and not making them exist together within the same 'verse.

I'm sorry, but if Buffy changed the future then Fray will not happen. It's like an either or kinda thing.

I know where Mikey's coming from, but I agree with touched. Or, at least, I wished it worked that way.

In fact I can't think of anything more interesting than a comic book about a super hero with no powers. It'd make for some incredibly interesting drawings wouldn't it? An average girl doing routine things. It would probably be so good it would even justify rehashing a plot already done in the show. Oh an by the way, I was being sarcastic.

It would be interesting to see Buffy handle her life without Slayer powers. I think if anything it would make her appreciate Xander even more. He's the most regular person in the Buffyverse and he's survived countless Apocalypses.
I think that would be rather boring though, in comic form. And I personally want to see Buffy keep on trucking with her powers.

Heck, maybe whoever kept the records was British... you know, "a few" could have been an euphemism for "somewhere around 2000".

I agree. I think that all the "activated" slayers will eventually be unactivated. Buffy and Faith, the only "natural" slayers will be all that remains (or if Faith eventually dies, the slayer that would have been called naturally had she died before, if Buffy dies, then the world is back to one slayer). And maybe that's why Urkon says "A SLAYER" not "a slayer army with mystical allies"... Although I dunno... I don't think it can happen in WATG because it's still way early in the series, plus I think Joss would write something like that himself. But yeah... maybe Buffy will strike a deal with Twilight/the military or something to deactivate all the unnatural slayers. I mean... I hate to say it, but General Voll was right... when all the slayers were activated, it did throw the natural balance of good/evil off.... So I dunno. I look forward to what happens, though.

And maybe that's why Urkon says "A SLAYER" not "a slayer army with mystical allies"... Au contraire, Urkonn says in reference to the final battle: "A slayer, possibly with some mystical allies, faced an apocalyptic army of demons. And when it was done... they were all gone. All demons, all magicks, banished from this earthly dimension." That doesn't prove nor negate scythe slayers at the final battle.

That's what I meant... he said A SLAYER, one slayer... not a whole slayer-army "with some mystical allies...." I do agree, though that it doesn't prove/disprove scythe slayers. I just think it's not all that likely that if there was an army of slayers, the watcher's diaries, or the legends or however he found out about it, somehow turned it into ONE slayer...

Assuming that the Fray continuity is the same as Buffy's, that is Fray is set 200+ years in the future of Buffy's continuity, then yes, if Buffy changed the future, Fray's past, present and future will be affected. However, if we go with the concept that there are many parallel continuities at the same time, and Fray's timeline is just one such continuity, then hey, Buffy changing the future may not affect her at all. However, then we have to assume that Buffy not only time skipped, but skipped continuities as well to meet Fray in the future (assuming that there's only one such continuity that Fray exists as she did in her own series). Confusing much?

Well considering that the next arc is about Buffy meeting Fray, I think it's safe to assume that a number of these questions regarding the coming events of season eight will be answered soon enough.
Also, I have the feeling at least some of the Scythe activated Slayers will be reversed into regular girls again maybe in the last issue of Wolves at the Gate. I thought that could be why Buffy takes Kennedy and Vi on her trip to New York, because the Slayers from Buffy's troop are deactivated.

I have a feeling that Wolves At The Gate part 4 might see the end of magic. Thus causing Buffy to go into the future to try and change what happened. To bring magic back. It probably won't happen but it might. I think that this whole "end of magic" thing will be resolved half way through the season, leading up to an even bigger storyline at the end of the season.
