Can you believe some Angel/Buffy fans in other forums are actually squeeing over this? Tasteless. An acquaintance of mine got an answer to her e-mail, by the way, along the lines of Buffy being an "edgy" show and thus warranting "edgy" images for the calendar. Here's hoping next year we'll have a calendar full of these endearing "edgy" images, like Angel snapping Jenny's neck (thanks, Brian), Riley getting suck-jobs from vampire whores, Buffy beating Spike's face into hamburger, Angel's "Was it good for you too?", Joyce lying dead on the couch, Willow skinning Warren alive, Faith strangling Xander, etc. At least that will be a fair treatment of the show's characters and relationships, won't it? Man, my avatar is always so spot-on.

Well said, Enisy.
BTW, Trey, that is definitely the most manly banner I've ever seen.

Um. Okay? I can't imagine why you would be upset by something that a poster you don't know pointed out about fans you don't know on forums you don't know, and all this in very generic terms. (Unless you're one of said fans, or something.)

It's not like Enisy gave any names. It's not tasteless to point out other people's tastelessness.

I have to side with Enisy on this! It is a scene about rape, and I really can't put my mind around why some people would like this. It's just a picture but it's offensive to people that this show is important to, such as all of us.

The use of the Buffy and Spike image itself is not really what bugs me. It is the context it is used in. If all of the pictures on that page were dark or serious then it would be fine. But Buffy and Riley at a picnic and then Buffy on the bathroom floor is not exactly the best arrangement.

Hope you're okay with this hitrun; I stole your pic and used it on my blog, as a warning for future buyers (although it's probably too late for many).

Yeah... just as tasteless as running to other forums and pointing out what someone else is doing that upsets another person... While doing the same thing themselves. Aw, c'mon another silly fandom kerfluffle is just what we needed! Don't try to stop this one, I was watching to see if it would last longer than the month in question on the calendar... Of course, it's funny to me that, as usual, it devolved into something it wasn't in the beginning. It WAS about outrage over a pic, but hey, that's not really enough to cause a TRUE kerfluffle soooo .... it devolved into something worse. WHEEE! After all we haven't had one in ... well, weeks. I think the last one was over Buffy's comment about Cordy. Before that I'm sure it was outrage over some writer's comments, but I could be wrong. Have to check my notes... -Luc

Strangely, Angel us snapping Jenny's neck or the writing on the wall "Was it good for you too" wouldn't upset me in the way that you are upset, if those moments were to show up on a calendar. Angelus was and is the most evil and twisted vampire around. That's how I love him. The Angelus arc was one of, if not THE most amazing arcs of the series. Having said that, he has also never been in a romantic relationship with Buffy. So, apples and oranges to the AR with B/S, imo. The worst thing that Angel ever did to Buffy was in leaving her so she could have a better life. So, if they were going for what hurts Buffy, they could have used that one. I really don't know what the theme was, if not just simply the seasons. Why include the AR for B/S? No idea. Maybe that would be a better question to ask the Calendar people or more specifically FOX. What exactly are they trying to say? If anything. More than that, I'd like to know why the attitude has become so shirty. Nobody has said that they LOVED the picture chosen. In fact, I specifically said that I was never a fan of the scene. I tried to offer a reason and hope that maybe next year it will be better. So sorry, no. Not getting the attitude on this one. Except that it always comes down to a "It's all YOUR fault" attitude with some fans.

I don't get how people have managed to get offended by a general statement that didn't mention names of fans or forums, nor get specific about the content of the posts. I'm not in the habit of guilt-tripping people; if you're guilty, you'll feel guilty by yourself. Strangely, Angelus snapping Jenny's neck or the writing on the wall "Was it good for you too" wouldn't upset me in the way that you are upset, if those moments were to show up on a calendar. What if they were to appear next to a picture of Riley/Buffy dancing from Superstar and Spike/Buffy in happy-smiley afterglow from Dead Things? Spike wasn't even in a relationship with Buffy when the bathroom scene took place; it doesn't jibe whichever way you look at it.

You brought another board, unrelated to this one, into this thread for no purpose other than to make a point about evil B/Aers. (Cause while it didn't mention names, forums or boards, it DID single out a shipper group opposite of your own....interesting, huh?) It's funny to me. (And I'm sure appreciated by the mods and owners of the board.) It's tantamount to me pointing out (in generic and vague terms) all the times the B/Sers burned writers, and other Buffy VIP staff etc in effigy for their views on B/S vs B/A in a thread that wasn't about that at all. It's just a way to create a kerfluffle. The bigger question to me is, why would you lurk at a board you find so bothersome? I used to do that too, but I got over it. Anyway, carry on! -Luc

I think it's pretty clear by the number of people who have posted in this thread that the majority who find the picture offensive are not Spuffy fans. They're fans who don't want to look at a picture of attempted rape on their wall for the month of January. Not to stir up a past issue (because I don't think it's exactly true, but ah well...), but I find it incredibly ironic that Slayalive has a bad reputation for being anti-Spike/anti-Spuffy yet the vast majority of members posting in this thread found the picture choice offensive.
Raise your hand if you could care less about 'shipping but you find this picture offensive? I can already name a few of you who aren't Spuffy fans or 'shippers: Ethan, Pat, Skytte, Joe, Xi.
So to anyone who thinks that only Spuffy fans are reacting to this picture negatively, you might want to recalibrate your profiling measures. They're way off base.
As for kerfuffle, I wasn't aware of the need for one until certain fans reactions to this picture were mocked. Apparently the fans' negative reaction was enough for it to be "brought" to another board and mocked. This issue didn't become about the fans until those fans were talked about. It was initially about the issue. And to be honest, it still is. I haven't really seen a convincing argument for why this picture is okay or fits in with the calendar.
And I'm shutting up now about the meta of the issue. Not making it personal to anyone involved in the "kerfuffle" - just to say I was disappointed to see fans reactions being put down and belittled. Said fans are upset by this - can you blame them?

Or please, don't carry on. I've been watching this thread for a while now (pretty sure some of the other Mods have as well), even responded. I've allowed the "kerfluffle" to carry on for a while, because I didn't see anyone getting personal, and it was a debate. However, let's not get too kerfluffle-y. Debate is fine, but no pointed barbs. If this breaks out into all out craziness, believe me when I say that I'm quite handy at wielding the "delete" button. At the moment, I think it's quite obvious that most of us find the image in poor taste, regardless of which ship we ride.
EDIT: And Emmie is right, I'm not Spuffy shipper. I respect that relationship, just as I respect all the other ones in the shows (Buffy and Angel). Well, except maybe the Cordy-Connor one; that one just gave me the heebie-jeebies, and I'm the first to admit that it was more of a visceral recoil, than an actual logical shunning.

As for kerfuffle, I wasn't aware of the need for one... There wasn't and still isn't, imo. THAT is the point I was trying to make. And it wasn't brought here by the posters who are being talked about, by the way. Just saying. Edited: Oops, sorry Wenxina, posted this before I saw your last post. Thanks for posting, I for one will not carry on. -Luc

Luc, I criticise my 'shipper group when it needs criticising, too, as you would know if you'd ever seen my posts at the DH Spike/Buffy thread or Bloodshedverse or LiveJournal. I don't have any points to make about "evil B/Aers"; in fact, I was just defending you, specifically, on another forum a few hours ago. *sigh*
Again, avatar sums it up.

I think I need to change my custom title, because I've decided to not get involved and not to be a notorious meddler and argue with single posters, other than to give a general advice:
Before you get offended by a post, re-read, look at it from the poster's POV, and try to see if you are assuming too much about the poster's intentions.
Considering how much I love a good "kerfluffle", I applaud myself. So, new custom title... *putting on thinking cap*

All things being equal, I honestly believe the most likely truth is that someone who is unfamiliar with the show was responsible for the image selection. Accusations that the people behind the calendar are Spuffy haters is a bit premature. I have to be honest: the shipper conspiracy theories that come of the most minor infractions give me a honking case of the facepalms.
Is it bad taste? Absolutely! I can't imagine anyone, man, woman or child, who wants to start their day/month/year with rape imagery. In my opinion, writing letters complaining specifically about that will probably be the most successful avenue towards preventing a repeat performance.
