Why would the Monster as know it now ever be summoned for protection? That's a plot hole to me, because the show was clearly leaning that way from very early on, and still hinting at it last year.

Jacob's dialogue here was better and more useful than the entirety of that last episode which now renders it a complete waste of time. The only thing we saw last week that wasn't better stated here was the skeleton explanation, which really wasn't that vital. I dunno. I thought this week's episode validated last week's even more. For one thing, we learned about the succession of the Island's protectors, which was important to give us some context when Jack took over. And more importantly, we learned Jacob's motivations for why he chose the type of people to take over for him. It really helped put his whole redemption kick into perspective.

Jacob's motivations don't really wash either. I bought into the idea of him picking lonely people in need of a purpose, but he draws in these people and protects them, and lets all of the non-candidates (the people with purpose, families) die by the dozen in the meantime. I can't shake the image of him being a total simpleton lol

I still wanna know why the numbers Desmond was entering were matched to those six candidates. Back then there would have been more names not crossed out (like Kate, since she was only crossed out when she took Aaron) so what was with the numbers really? Just a coincidence? or was it something that after many years of mystery, doesn't actually matter? One of you hardcore losties explain it to me.

He was manipulating Ben into thinking Ben was summoning the monster. Now that we know what exactly this Smoke Monster is, we can consider him a character, and his actions should be evaluated as such, and not necessarily part of the mythology. They just like re-using the Numbers. Why are the Candidates labeled? Jacob has a thing for numbers. Why did the DHARMA Initiative use it in the Swan? Because by their math, those numbers were crucial to saving the world. Ultimately, they're just numbers. Like the chalk on the wall.

Really disappointed in Widmore's involvement. What a lot of nothing. Just breezed by it. Yeah, I was rather disappointed in that, but I think his presence helped push Ben's character further along. Especially after Richard said he buried Alex after Ben left, I think that brought his pain back to the surface. I would've wanted Widmore to have a larger involvement, but I'll take what I can get. "If you shoot me, then your last chance of survival will be gone." I wonder if Ben took those words to heart. I think it was very appropriate for Jack to volunteer for the job. I'm glad they didn't make a big fuss over it for several reasons-- I think Jack needs the island as much as it needs him. Also, they did not have all night to flip a coin or argue about who would succeed Jacob. Of course, I didn't think Kate or Sawyer would want to do it. Hugo maybe.... but since this really started with Jack, it should end with him. I liked how Jacob mentioned the field of bamboo trees that he landed when he arrived. Sigh... can't believe it's almost over! Oh, and 3 words: I love Desmond. Especially when he whipped that dress from the trunk. Hot damn. My guess is, he's going to use her to get to Jack at the benefit. Since he's the only one missing from the equation.

I'm not going say too much of what's already been said. I do have to say poor Ben I hope he doesn't go and try to kill all of the candidates though. As far as Widmore dying I didn't really care. As far as I'm concern him and his whole team was pointless besides bringing back Desmond. In fact the writers should have found another way to bring Desmond back instead of bringing back Widmore and putting us through the torture that is Zoe.

Didn't the crazy guy hear the numbers over a radio transmission years and years before too? Haha it'll never make sense. Oh well.

I thought it was a great penultimate episode. Nothing in it shocked me very much, but it was a good story. Gonna watch the finale Monday night on DVR, so I can fast-forward through the Super Bowl-like commercial marathon that it will undoubtedly be. So, both Sideways!Desmond and Sideways!Hurley are fully aware of both timelines and now seem to be actively working to merge them. We've been told two key things about MiB: 1) He's now trapped in his Locke body and can't take another, and 2) He can only take on the form of someone who's dead. That means if Locke is suddenly alive again in his timeline, and he can't take on any other form, he'll be trapped in his Smoke form. And I have a suspicion that the real answer to Ben's question (why does MiB walk everywhere instead of just flying around in smoke form?) is because he can only hold that form for a limited time. I'm really looking forward to seeing Kate in that dress, BTW.

I gotta say that my favorite scene in the whole episode was towards the beginning, when Sawyer, Hurley, Kate, and Jack are just staring out at the ocean as the wreckage of the sub comes washing ashore.

LOST WTF #5076
Kate was crossed off the candidate list because she became a mother... and yet Kwon was still up there.

LOST WTF #5076 Kate was crossed off the candidate list because she became a mother... and yet Kwon was still up there. Hahaha what a fail. I was so excited that Kate's name being crossed off, but still alive/with the others, meant something big for her in the final episodes. The mother explanation kind of irked me but I got over it. Now it's just dumb. Ah well, just something little.

LOST WTF #5076 Kate was crossed off the candidate list because she became a mother... and yet Kwon was still up there. That's true! Hmm, I can't think of a good explanation for this other than we didn't really know if Jacob meant Jin or Sun. But they're both parents so there's no reason for him to favor fathers over mothers for being potential protectors of the island. But Jin didn't know about his daughter though. Jacob did say it's just a line of chalk through a name, and didn't mean anything.

WELL... I am caught up, and ready for the finale! I plan on watching the recap before it, as well. Four and a half hours of LOST goodness. My first, and last, episode I'll ever watch live. Season six has really been amazing. Probably the best out of all six, IMO. It was slow for a few episodes, but once it got over that... Just wow. These last few episodes have been great. They've done a great job at moving the plot, and then taking a break, and explaining a few things: Like the plots in 'Ab Aeterno' and 'Across the Sea'.(And these two just happen to make up 2/3 of my favorite S6 episodes[The other being 'The Candidate'.].) Now, I'll go back to the ending of S5, and say this: My favorite, favorite, favorite moment of LOST history is there. The last scene of the season, where we see Juliet injured in the bottom of the 'Hatch'. She still manages to activate the bomb, and seeing her struggle was heartbreaking. Something else was also introduced in S5... Suliet! Now, I'm a big Skate fan, so I wasn't too sure about Suliet. I actually didn't buy Sayer/Juliet, until their final scenes together: Him trying to save her, and holding her as she died. I still favor Skate, but I don't mind Suliet either. Kate/Jack is a completely different situation... *Barf* Throughout the entire series, I held a disliking for Jack. He was annoying(To me!). He was just everything I did not enjoy, and the only character I could not stand to watch. But I actually grew to stand him in S5. He had his moments where I still wanted to punch him, but he continued to grow on me. I've liked him throughout this last season too. I can't say I'll ever 'love' Jack, but I can actually enjoy scenes with him now... At least from these last two seasons! And now for my list(s). I always have to do lists. Order of Seasons (From best, to least best): 1. S6 2. S1 3. S4 4. S3 5. S5 6. S2 Top 10 Characters: 1. Ben 2. Locke 3. Sawyer 4. Hurley 5. Juliet 6. Kate 7. Claire 8. Shannon 9. Boone 10. Jack (I just shocked myself by putting him on here too! ) Top 10 Episodes: 1. The Constant 2. The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham 3. The Candidate 4. The Man Behind the Curtain 5. Ab Aeterno 6. Dead Is Dead 7. Greatest Hits 8. One of Us 9. Walkabout 10. The Other 48 Days Picking just 10 was hard! So here's the others I had on my list, but had to take them off, sadly:- Flashes Before Your Eyes - Across the Sea - Happily Ever After - Abandoned (Shannon R.I.P. </3) ((I didn't count any 2, or 3, parters, as I love all of them. I only did episodes within on hour.))

LOST WTF #5076 Kate was crossed off the candidate list because she became a mother... and yet Kwon was still up there. Kate becoming a mother would fix the flaw that Jacob saw in her. She was constantly conflicted, always running... having a child would stabilize her, give her something to live for. Jacob's note to Sun/Jin in The Incident flashback was "Never take [your love] for granted". Their marriage was bad, but life on the Island was good for them, and I imagine Jacob would have wanted them both to leave and be with their child - an end they were unfortunately unable to achieve because as Richard said: "If you don't [interfere], he will". And the "just chalk on a wall" line is Jacob's way of saying that it was just his way of keeping track of his candidates - because as we've seen, his method of choosing candidates was his own (he "made his own rules" as Boy in Black urged him to do in Across the Sea).

Gotta say I think Season 6 has been by far the worst season of the show. There's been way too much stalling, some very unfulfilling explanation and plenty of excess characters to deal with. "Across the Sea" is the most disappointing episode of the series.
Looking forward to the finale regardless. I hope it is at least satisfying for the characters as I'm sure many of the old mysteries will be left behind.
LOST WTF #6325
Christian's ghostly appearances are now confirmed to be MiB. Shortly before Michael dies he is told by Christian that he can "go now", except that they're on the freighter across water at the time and MiB couldn't get there.

Didn't Christian also appear to Jack off island? Think I remember a scene during the flash-forward where he visits Jack at the hospital. Guess that can be easily fanwanked though.
I don't think Season 6 will be my least favorite season, but it's definitely been underwhelming for the most part. Lately it's been great, but the majority was so uneven. I agree that it stalled, both story and characters. I expected nonstop amazing since this was planned to be the final season for a few years.

I think the writers got really cornered by the Flashsideways device. This season could have been half the episode count easily if it wasn't introduced, as there were a load of episodes where nothing happened on the island. The whole Temple section just seems pointless in hindsight. Sure we got to see the healing fountain thing, but it wasn't explained at all. We still don't know exactly what the sickness is either.
