Frankly,I'm getting a little tired of all the remakes that Hollywood crams down our throats. My opinion is that all the CGI that is being used today has basicly ruined the horror genre.

Very true. CGI has only been used well in a few horror films in the past 10 years or so. The ring was done quiet well (of course its a remake though), The Descent, Shaun of the Dead, and Devil's Rejects (wasn't REALLY a horror film, more of a shock thriller imo) all used CGI was tastefully.
I think once a new wave of writers come in the remake franchise will lose steam. I believe that new young writers came about, and decided "well I dont like old movies, lets make them fresh so youngins can enjoy" and the ish hit the fan and now we have 5 or so remakes or reimaginings going on every year. Now the next wave of writers who hate remakes are gonna come through and say "enough! lets be original".
Sadly there is gonna be a day when we've "scene" it all. hahah get it?

I agree. Remake's are popping up left right and centre nowadays. And most of them let down the original's by a long shot. Although Im sure there are some good remake's. Personally 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' was one of my favourite horror movie's and I don't think anyone could replace Robert Englund. I will just need to wait and see it before I make a decision though

I have the Nightmare on Elm Street DVD Box Set!
Whichever actor they eventually decide on to play the new Freddy, I hope they make it really tongue-in-cheek like Freddy vs. Jason was (although most of the series was like that, ha). Although I agree that no one can do as fine a job as Robert Englund, I think if they cast a relatively unknown it would help dismiss some preconceived notions like we would have with famous actors (Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thorton, etc.).

Ooh, that would be interesting to see Johnny Depp. Especially since his first feature film debut was the first Nightmare on Elm Street!

Haha. That would actually be quite clever of them! I barely recognised him when I re-watched them a few years back. It would be an enjoyable cameo...okay not so much cameo if he had a major part but still lol

if its anything like the Halloween remake then they should just stop now cos that was an ATROCIOUSSSSSSSS film.
Why did rob zombie think casting a chubby girly boy as a young michael and have him in half the film would be a good idea.
Disgraceful.

I completely agree that they have no business remaking all of these classic movies. Almost all of them have been cheesy/horrible/boring. (I do have to make an exception for the new Dawn Of The Dead. I went to go see it angry that they had dared to touch it, but now I own it. They really made it their own and paid homage to the original at the same time) Let's make a list of the remakes...
Texas Chainsaw Massacre- It was like they remade it for 10 year olds with weak bladders. Psycho- Vince Vaughn?!?!?!??!!!! What?!?!?!! The Omen- bleh Stepford Wives- A happy ending?! Seriously?!?! House Of Wax- The only really good part was Paris Hilton getting a pipe through her forehead. I don't even mean just because it was her. That was some good/funny gore.
There are a ton of other ones...

Disgraceful. while I didnt enjoy it as much as I hoped I would, I thought it was an interesting take. to give Michael more subtext was great. I didnt enjoy that he was this gigantor in adult hood who was randomly powerful lol The boy who played young michael is actually a really good actor. I thought he did a good job in the role. For me the movie went down hill after you were introduced to the new Laurie and her whore friends. those were the casting mistakes!

Robert Englund or no one. They would never have him do the remake because you could just see the original but I only want to see him as Freddy. No one else has played Freddy for a reason. You can’t beat Robert Englund
