Besides The Thing and The Fly... What do you think of other genre remakes like King Kong 2005, The Blob, Cat People (The one with Malcom Mcdowell), Last House on The Left, Hills Have Eyes, Willard, Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978, Night of the Living Dead 1990, Dawn of the Dead, The Ring, Little Shop of Horrors, House of Wax 1953 (It's a remake of the obscure Mystery at The Wax Museum from 1933), Crazies, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, 2001 Maniacs, Toolbox Murders etc.?
And for non horror ones, i bet you did your favorite gangster movie of the 80's Scarface was a remake right?

In one of the many negative reviews of this movie thus far, a critic describes JEH's version of Freddy as a "pervy Groundskeeper Willy". LMAO.

I just got back from seeing this movie around 15 minutes ago. I didn't think it was gonna be as good as the previews looked, but I actually ended up liking it. Had some really creepy moments that made me jump. I'd only change one thing about the movie: make Kris the lead.

I have to disagree with you, dusktodawn, completely. I hated Kris in the movie. I think the actress wasn't very good, as I didn't buy any of her lines. Her breakdown with Thomas Dekker looked pathetic. Dekker did a wonderful job, but made her look like a unprofessional, plain-out-bad actress. I was glad she got sliced up, and actually laughed when she was twirling around in the air. ^.^
That said, going back to Dekker and his performance. I think he did a wonderful, brilliant job. All of his scenes were great, and believable. I think he and Rooney Mara(Nancy) were the top actors/actresses in this film. Both did great jobs, imo. I was really hoping Dekker and his character would pull through throughout the film longer than they did. I think his plot was also one of the more interesting parts; With getting arrested, and all.
Nancy was a great lead. I praise the actress at this time. Her fight scene with Freddy at the end was so amazing, with her "You're in my world now, Bitch!" *Slice* I really liked the character. Plus, I think Rooney Mara is quite the good looker. She really reminds me of Felecia Day.
I enjoyed how Freddy was portrayed. I think it was very deep, and scary at parts. I still have been avoiding the original film, as I didn't want to compare the two together at first. I plan on getting the original on Blu-Ray soon, and seeing which one I like more. (Will also be picking up the 3rd film, and New Nightmare).
Now, here is my question, for a first time watcher. : Can I pick up the 1st and 3rd films, and skip the 2nd? I hear it is god-awful. If I don't watch it, will I be lost while watching the third?

Saw this last week and really enjoyed it. It's not perfect, but it's a decent enough remake and handles the Freddy character really well. Haley's performance was excellent, hopefully the fans will stop bitching about replacing Robert Englund when they actually see the film. They made Freddy into a much darker character; his paedophillia is explicit this time, which gives him more depth and generally makes the film a lot creepier. I was less impressed with the teenagers, especially Nancy. I love the original Nancy, she's one of my favourite horror heroines (second only to Laurie Strode), but this film just stripped away all of her warmth and strength and replaced it with depression. Rooney Mara just stumbles around looking gaunt and mopey, she's totally boring to watch and pretty weak against Freddy. Very disappointing interpretation of a horror icon. The other teens aren't much better... bad acting and bland characterisation all round. Kyle Gallner is pretty good as Quentin though, he's a more likable protagonist than Nancy. The story itself is kind of an improvement over the original. Like I said earlier, explicitly making Freddy a paedophile just gives the film a whole new layer. The film does a better job of exploring the backstory, and connecting Freddy to the kids, than the original. There's a nice little mystery as the kids investigate their own childhood. The death scenes are a lot less impressive than the original, but I guess they're trying to make it more realistic. Now, here is my question, for a first time watcher. : Can I pick up the 1st and 3rd films, and skip the 2nd? I hear it is god-awful. If I don't watch it, will I be lost while watching the third? The second film is kind of a standalone. It's in-continuity, but the other films don't reference it so you won't be lost at all. Dream Warriors is basically a direct sequel to the first film. However, Freddy's Revenge is really underrated IMO. It has a different structure to the other films, it's not about teens getting killed in their dreams, it's about Freddy slowly possessing a teenage boy in his sleep and using him to kill in the real world. There's a homoerotic subtext to the film (with Freddy being a metaphor for repressed homosexuality) which is pretty explicit at times (Freddy sleepwalks Jesse into a gay bar). It's a bit strange, but also one of the scariest films in the series. It has a similarly dark tone as the original and is less cartoony and fantasy-based than the later sequels. Plus there's an awesome scene where Freddy massacres a bunch of teens at a pool party. So I'd definitely reccomend checking it out.

I am such a fan of the old movies so I was excited to see this movie. First of all I was really really really tired and the theater was packed, and hot!
I walked out 20 mins into the movie, the first movie was all about Nancy not the stupid blonde... Freddy's face was never smooth, it shouldn't be! I was disapointed in what I saw but when it comes out on dvd I will probably rent it and give it another shot...

It's not until after her death that Nancy starts to play a major role in the plot. Which is basically the same as what happens in the remake. Kris/Tina has slightly more screentime but basically the same role.
