I was loving Angel Season 6 and then it went wrong

Like horrible fan fiction wrong. About the time Illyria reverted to her true form, or that pile of demon bodys some how healed angel?!

Or how time reset? Everyone in LA knows Demons and Angel? Angel works for the city in some MIB like agency? Kate is his new sidekick?

Seriously it was going well, and then it went all crazy bad. Like bad fan fiction bad. Does anyone else feel this way?

Buffy Season 8 seems way more down to earth and more true to the series than angel season 6 especially after the illyria/time reset thing...

And this comes from someone who liked angel more(albeit marginally) than buffy.

The seeds for the demon healing were planted all the way back in #1 it wasn't out of no where. It was set up and explained.

The time reset was also set up and explained. Also, I consider it one of the most emotional and well-done moments of either series (including TV and comic).

Everyone in LA knows demons because, of course, they were being attacked by them during their entire time in Hell. Everyone knows Angel because of the speech he gave in #5. It would be really weird and pretty terrible if everyone just forgot. The reason that Angel isn't a true reset is that everything actually happened and everyone remembers.

Kate being the new sidekick is fine for me. It makes sense that she'd come back to him. I thought her reintroduction in #18 was beyond sloppy, but the idea of her as his partner in (stopping) crime rings very true to me.

I love the time reset, I don't know why... but having Connor and Illyria back could be it... The Kate cameo in First NIghts was very cool, but having her in Aftermath is were they went wrong, and I wish that Gunn would have died a human, but there is still time for him to do so.

I can understand how crappy Season 6 is at the current moment with Aftermath going on, but its not like the series didnt have crappy episodes or anything. Hell, we had Season 4. But I actually thought that the time reset was a really cool thing for them to do.

And as for Buffy being more down to earth than Angel, it has also had some lame moments such as Mecha Dawn and all the mystical hobbit-y crap rather than actual Supernatural stuff.

No, I don't. While AFTERMATH is less than stellar, Brian really crafted an amazing story with AFTER THE FALL. It is the best series I have ever read and I am really looking forward to what happens next in the series with #23+ and ONLY HUMAN. Pat already addressed the other comments you made, so I won't reiterate those, but I just wanted to say how much I love the series.

I'm also loving the Angel comics. Aftermath is maybe a bit of disappointed, it's not mythology destroying. It's just not exciting and has trouble capturing the characters. But that said, it's not destroying the mythology and characters. Both shows had much worse times, episodes where lovable characters were destroyed or mistreated. Gigantic plotholes, incredible lazy writing etc. Neither series was top quality all the time and I think that Aftermath is not even close to the badness that was 'The Girl in Question' or the pure crap that was the second half of BtVS season 7.

After the Fall was fantastic and Aftermath not so much (Although it's improving and I think that both Armstrong and Ross needs serious credits for that), but that doesn't mean that everything is/will be bad.

Hey guys I understand we all have differing opinions. But Id liek to compare Mech-Dawn to the second half of After the fall.

Mecha Dawn was corney, one shot, and not central to the stroy.

Body pile of demons reviving human angel and demon form illyria was central to the story, insanely corney, and just felt like it did not belong.

I mean the first half of After the Fall was genious, very awesome. But then they did that half arse reset, starting with angel not really dying and illyria becoming her huge ancient self.

Something about it just felt off, and really not like angel at all. The first half of After the Fall felt like I was reading an episode of the TV show. The second half felt like some fan boys wet dream laced fan fiction. Especially the couple pages of angel and kate fighting and him asking her to keep screening the the clients.. it was just so not angel.

And as for the episodes referenced... the girl in question was classic and hilarious. It was classic angel and spike, what is not to like? Its placement as one of the last episodes ever aired may have been poor but the episode itself was hilarious like the Zeppo episode in buffy season 2 I believe.

And Angel Season 4 was amazing. It was like one large episode, very well done, and interesting storyline... not sure why people mock it.

While I am not saying the comics have reached the level of suck of say what Smallville does on a weekly basis... but that time restart thing and angel being famous thing is pushing it. It just takes away from what the show was.

I don't really know what you mean by "one shot." Do you mean it wasn't like an on-going thing? Not all jokes need to be intricately woven into the mythology of the series. In any given episode, there are a bunch that aren't.

I don't really understand this sentence very much... but the demon body bit was definitely a major part of even the beginning of After the Fall. Just check out #1 and #2.

Say what you want about the series. I definitely disagree in a major and passionate way... but saying that it was "half arse" is definitely just wrong. Brian Lynch and Franco Urru and the entire team worked their asses off and made a book that the vast majority of fans really love. You can like it or dislike it, but no way it was "half arse."

I didn't like the season as much as other Angel seasons either. I don't really understand your logic. Why is a beautiful God who eats people giving birth to herself via Cordelia (who makes out with a lava monster) more believable than a ritual demon sacrifice being used as a healing platform? Or the "reset"?

How? It's just movement in a different direction. Every season, especially the stellar season five, did that.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it bad fanfic, but no, you're hardly the only one who doesn't have complaints about various aspects of it, and was generally left feeling underwhelmed (in particular, the cop-out-ness of the "reset button" at the end really bugs me). Altho the number of people who'll say "It was the absolute most perfect-est thing ever, how can you even think of criticizing any bit of it?" seems to be higher here than at other "Buffy"/"Angel" boards out there.

I loved it thru #5, and re-read those issues multiple times while eagerly waiting for the next one to be released. Still haven't even gotten around to readings #'s 11-17 a second time yet...

I have some problems with After the Fall, and anything after #17 doesn't mean that much to me, but I don't agree with your specific criticisms, xythil. Particularly, Illyria turning into her true form was a stroke of genius IMO, because it took something we'd been shown briefly on the show and brought it fully to life, making great use of the comic book medium. As a concept, the time reset is rather cheap, but the execution was good enough that it worked. I also like L.A. knowing about demons and the "Angel as a celebrity" angle.

Though, as El Diablo Robotico said, it's refreshing to hear some criticism leveled at AtF since it seems to be regarded as flawless on this site. I love the beginning and the end, but those middle issues just bore me...

Season Four is my most favorite season of AtS. And I stopped reading After the Fall at #9 because it bored me to tears. I wonder how I'd feel if I read Aftermath.

After the Fall #9 was downright awful. Terrible artwork, confusing plot twists, embarrassing dialogue. Definitely the low point of an otherwise great series (not counting Aftermath obviously). I still can't bring myself to read my Vol. 3 hardcover because the artwork hurts my soul.
