Very much looking forward to this issue. Illyria has become one of the top characters of "Angel" IMO. Totally agree we don't see alot of the detail that was put into her charatcer in the comics but on TV, it was amzing to see this transformation from tiny texan Fred to to all powerful old one.

Ok, now maybe the most crazy theorie I ever made up:
What if Illyria's true form turns the people from LA to be her army? Angel has to kill all people (according to the vision) to save LA...
"The truth has been revealed. Master plans are on the table. People are dying. And evil is winning. The forces of good take their last stand, but with certain death surrounding them, they’re going to have to do the unthinkable to win the day."
It's very unthinkable...
Plus: I allways did not understand why there was a First Night part about the people from LA. This would make sense. Also Bryan really has 'endarked' Angel, so I think this could be possible...
Could it be Wesley who releases true Illyria to save Fred? Is this the offer he cannot refuse, but bringing doom to everybody? Everybody except team Angel, because Bryan made them all non-human now...and team Angel has to kill the population...not very bad for those Senior Partners...
"people are dying...evil is winning...certain death surrounding them..."
It also would explain the cover variant with Angel standing with remorse looking to all the dead bodies.
Bryan, is this your master plan? Guys...am I stupid (plz be a little bit nice) or could this be the ending of After the Fall???

Also, it's "Brian". No "y".

Thanks for your answer...It's a big compliment that the author of AtF likes my theory...
And I feel really stupid writing your name wrong... I blame it on English not being my first language (as you have seen allready)

It's a great theory, and don't worry about the name!

Your English is better than most native speakers ***EDITED for bad grammar - see, English is my first language and I completely flubbed that reassurance ;D

Does anyone know when issue 14 comes out? Is it before the long awaited Buffy#19?

Angel: After the Fall Issue 14 comes out November 19th (this Wedneday). Wow! So that's two Angel's and one Spike since the last Buffy came out. Only a few more issues of Angel left. I'm nervous and excited at the same time.

So I have a bit of constructive criticism here. We'll see if anyone agrees with me. It might be an unpopular opinion, but here goes.
The introductory dialogue with Groo went a bit too far. I would have preferred if the third panel just had him flying away. It's just too long of a monologue for me. Yes, it's funny. But it's comic relief and it takes away from the moment for me, diminishing the dramatic effect of Angel's internal monologue.
The mixture of drama, horror and humor in the AtS was more angsty with the thrown in line to lighten the humor. Obviously, entire humorous episodes are the exception to this rule (Spin the Bottle and Smile Time). Though even they had their moments where the humor was jettisoned and it became very serious.
The humorous lines were sprinkled throughout to turn a incredibly serious moment on it's ear. Most of the time, it took just one line. Or even a look - an eye roll, an 'are you kidding me?' expression.
I feel like the dramatic tension isn't being relieved by the comedy, it's been carried away by a tsunami of humor. Yeah, it makes me laugh. But I was looking for something more during these dramatic moments. Spike rambling because he's shocked to discover Angel being human, that too felt like it went a bit too far. I enjoy a good ramble as much as the next fan, but I just wish it had been pulled back a bit.
I feel like the power of the scene got sold for a laugh.

It's funny you should say that. Things get very dark (er) very quickly and a lot of the humor was taken out because of that.

Fair enough. I can definitely see how the humor in the beginning pages would be used to balance the entire issue. It's difficult to judge a piece's tone when you're not looking at the complete story.
I just feel like there could have been something powerful expressed in that moment that Spike learns Angel is human and dying. I'm reminded of all these moments where Spike is struck silent during BtVS and AtS, a lot of the quiet moments being held up by Marsters acting ability. Like in A Hole in the World as he and Angel are staring down into the abyss and he utters quietly, almost reflexively, "There's a hole in the world. Feels like we ought to have known."
I can almost imagine Spike being struck dumb for a moment by this realization and saying, "Poor sod. Got what he always wanted. And it's killing him." The pity then changing to frustation, to a 'get off your ass' anger: "Except not today - you don't get to quit today. Come on, hero, time to cheat death one more time. "

I am really proud of Spike's reaction to Angel's revelation. He is shocked and rambles because he is nervous, and then doesn't care about anything else other than saving Angel (while, of course, trying to make fun of him a bit).
Sorry you didn't dig it. I think it came out awesome, made all the better by Mooney's Spike face.
