There's no more story in season 8 than there is in a typical season of the TV show. It just takes a lot longer to tell.
Once the season is done and all out in TPB form, it will probably find a new audience of those people who don't have the time or patience to follow a single story over the course of nearly 5 years.

Maybe after this "season" is done, someone could suggest that Buffy just be "on-going" and have arcs limited to a year? I appreciate longevity and depth, but... Erm no... the idea of an ongoing comic series with no executive plan/vision just doesn't sit well with me. S8 was revolutionary in that it's one of the first TV shows that officially continued in comic format, while following the "season" structure. S9 is supposed to be shorter (though really, that doesn't mean much, considering that S8 was originally supposed to be about 25 issues), so that might suit you better. But I'm against an on-going narrative, since there'll be no perceived end in sight, and the risk of jumping the whale shark pretty much shoots up.

I understand what you're saying, I meant more along the lines of - with an on-going, but still continue the "seasons"with the story. For example, Buffy #1-24 would be season 8, a month's break, #25-48 be Season 9, etc.., but you are right, doing it that way, it would lose sight of that definite "ending".
I don't know, I'm just grasping for ideas. So dismissing the "ongoing" suggestion, I'd propose that they charge a dollar and so more, add a couple of more pages and make each issue like a episode. Perhaps even rotate between two artists (sacrificing a continuous look) to stay ahead for every other issue, and definitely end the seasons with 24. I don't know. I started reading in my late 20's, and just don't want to be 40 before we get there.

I don't mind the length of the season. I feel all tingly not yet knowing who Twilight is, and I like the tingliness.
As to Willow's sudden change of mood into good if not to say ecstatic when she holds the baby: On this panel when she tells Buffy: "I'll work harder at this no-magic thing." etc. she looks close to fanatic ... and much too happy. This hypomanic air is excellently pencilled by Georges Jeanty. It looks scary to me.

Another great comic. Hehe, storytelling part 2 kinda. Yay for Xander and Dawn getting it together Buffy is living too much in her own head. This is not good for the slayer. Each number is too short though. At least when you buy em' seperately.

Could the Xander and Dawn thing meaning that Twilight is their future child? Just a longshot...

Ugh... The Xander and Dawn thing upsets my stomach a little bit. HE'S LIKE HER BIG BROTHER!!! He's ALWAYS been like her big brother. *pouts*

Well, Xander and Dawn have kissed now. We're looking at at least 1-2 major character deaths, plus maybe Willow with as much thinking about her future as she's been doing lately.

Sales figures are in. Issue 28 finished at #31 on the chart, up a few places from last month. But the sales total was down by the usual amount.

Thanks Andrew. I'd hate to see it go below 50,000, and it's lost half its buyers already, but I think that's to be expected with most comic books. I can understand why people are bailing lately though.

To be honest, the numbers don't surprise me. I can say that personally, for me, there were a lot of things that contributed to me not reading this series anymore.
There is the fact that the series is going to take, what, five years to finish? That's a really long time, IMO. That and the kind of lackluster writing and art (Retreat arc, particularly) kind of make it not look so well in the big picture.

Wow. Finally one perfect issue. Awesome reading. Huge improvement from last issue.
- The art was finally more than decent! Lots of details and just easy for the eyes. Nothing bad to report with the art this time. Good drawing overall.
- I love the concept of Andrew storytelling for us with a camera again. Besides, it gave us a chance to catch up with ALL the characters!
- The storyline is making some nice progress. Well, first of all, it was fluid. But we got some very interesting conversations! I'm glad Buffy told Willow about the future... I just hoped that it would lead to a rift between them too...
- And Dander finally in the open! Yay.
One of my favorite issues so far! Why can't it always be like this???

This whole Xander/Dawn debate is interesting. It's raised a lot of points and lots have to do with age. To me it wasn't weird because Xander is older than Dawn, to me it's weird because after Dawn got over her crush it seemed like they had settled on a older brothery sort of relationship and I find it very odd to see that turning into something romantic...
However to be fair I hated Willow/Kennedy and both Anya and Dawn as characters when I first saw them, so maybe I'll grow into it, but for right now, and I hate to say this because I bow down before all things Joss (especially Dollhouse lately, hot damn!) but it kind of feels like lazy writing. It creates more issues for Buffy and it's hard to introduce new characters in a comic with already established well-rounded characters so why not just put two of them together? I could be totally wrong, like I said, I might grow into it, but it just feels wrong somehow.

It does feel slightly wrong- I think it's because Xzander always seemed like he was "Buffy's"- not in a romantic sense but just generally.
The figures dropping doesn't realyl surprise me- people who aren't as addicted to the series often give up halfway through if they can't tell where they're heaeding (I'm thinking Lost season 2 here . . .) but with the finale coming up soon I'd expect the readership to go back up- personally I'm pysched about the upcoming issues!
