Well, Fallen was released at the height of Hot Topic's faux-goth marketing with Good Charlotte and other Tim Burton-inspired rock outfits: the perfect time for an upcoming "Linkin Park meets Enya and Danny Elfman" band to find commercial success. The Open Door was released when that fad had pretty much expired, and relevance is a huge factor in regards to sales when it comes to mainstream music. At that point, Evanescence had been away for a while, much like now, and they lost some of their footing in the mainstream. "Call Me When You're Sober" did well enough, but they needed another hit. So, the deciding factor won't really be how many Fallen fans enjoy the new music, but whether or not the band can successfully break through the Gaga, Bieber, and Kesha inundated mainstream scene to have another hit record. Sadly, I do not see that happening for them. Christina Aguilera couldn't pull it off, and has received overwhelming criticism (met with underwhelming sales) for trying out this recycled overrated electropop sound of the Gaga machine, so hope for Evanescence's success is wearing thinner by the second. They've been away from the game for too long.

Superb. True Blood continues to solidify itself as practically a beacon of hope for smart, character-driven genre series on television.
Anyone else catch the Buffy Season 2 shout out?

Adam Elliot's Mary and Max voiced by Toni Collette and Philip Seymour Hoffman: absolute tearjerker and very thought-provoking. The claymation is perfect, and the film in general is superbly human, dark, and inspirational.

This is the perfect consolation prize, and a great addendum to the DVD collection. I will definitely pre-order this.

Is it really that strange? I'm assuming it's just going to sound like Portishead with strings and a piano tucked away in the back, which they've done before in songs like "Anything For You" and "Away from Me." Isn't Amy Lee a huge Bjork and Nine Inch Nails fan? La Roux doesn't strike me as too far removed.

I would not want Season Eight on television at all. Buffy made its mark on the small screen, and I sincerely doubt it could reproduce its niche success once again. The actors have moved on and gotten considerably older than their respective roles. Also, Alyson is hysterical and so perfect as Lily Aldrin, that I would hate to see her leave the certain creative and financial success of How I Met Your Mother for a possibly alienating and underwhelming pickup of a show that's been gone for seven years, which mind you, is longer than what it actually lasted.
For budgetary reasons the story of Season Eight would have to be massively compromised and/or retooled, which might make it better in certain aspects, but worse and messy in others, and despite the hit and miss storytelling, I'm anxious to see how it all ends and where Season Nine picks up. I've just grown accustomed to comic BTVS and I'm not sure that I'd be ready for a televised adaption.
The only way I'll ever accept a live-action continuation or reboot of the character and title is if in ten or more years from now (at least around twenty years after the series ended its original run) Whedon feels the need to bring the character into the 21st century as a sixteen year old: new actress and updated character history to fit the times (Valley Girls and "posh" post-feminism belongs firmly in the 1990's, not anywhere after 2010).

Not really a fan, but I'm actually quite curious to see what time has done to Evanescence. I've heard Amy Lee is a fan of La Roux and has incorporated more elements of eletronica into her own music. Hopefully her lyrics have grown mature and less maudlin in order to suit this new direction.

She didn't really switch personalities though, just sort of became Caroline/Faith with loads of odd skills *shrugs* I almost agree with your initial assesment, although I love the inbetween more than heroic Echo or the Blank Slate Echo; i.e., I loved scenes like in Belonging where Echo was still very much a Doll but far more pro-active: the "You're taking charge" scene with Victor, and the "When did you learn how to lie?" scene with Boyd. However, I completely disagree that Echo was anything like Faith in terms of how the character was acted or how she was written. In fact, after hearing so many comments and/or complaints on that matter, I went back to my favorite Faith episodes ( Consequences, Enemies, This Year's Girl, Five By Five, Release) in both BTVS and Angel to see if that opinion had at least some merit, but Faith was an entirely different animal. On the other, Echo had some amazing scenes towards the end, especially in Epitaph Two. Oh hell, I just depressed myself. Just those three or so months of Echo outside of the Dollhouse would have made an incredible and dramatic season.

I fully agree with Wyndam in regards to Bill's current direction. It is far more potent than where the character had been previously, that is to say almost exclusively, I feel, trapped in shipper's limbo.
That ending though was bizarre and hard to watch, and I am not usually queasy. I do hope there are dire consequences to Bill's actions and I am excited to see how far the writers will go.
I really do want to see more of Sookie's powers this season. I absolutely loved the tease that Ball gave us towards the end of Season Two, and I want to see where it all leads.
Jessica and Pam are my favorites at the moment. They are both on point in every scene and have me constantly wanting to see more of them.

Maurissa and Jed should have been given more reigns over the season, I feel. As much as I love both of the Epitaph episodes, I'm not sure I can agree with you about this. Don't forget that M&J were responsible for some of the crappier episodes in the first season. I might be the only one who did not think "Stage Fright" was all that bad, and "Haunted" was just a somewhat failed throwback to murder mysteries, but also had plenty of awesome mythology set-ups: Not to mention the epic laser tag/geekfest scene with Sierra and Topher. "Belonging" and "The Attic" more than proved to me that Maurissa and Jed were the series' most remarkable writers. I loved Andrew Chambliss' work as well, and I feel he was underused. "The Hollow Men" could have benefited from his writing.
