I want to see how his story gets to where he is in the Buffy comics. In particular, his vehicle and minions. I think THAT would be quite interesting. IDW Spike series I think that's is what we're going to see in Lynch's serie.

To answer the thread title, this is what I like to see in villains (there are probably lots of exceptions to these rules, some may even be faulty even though it my own list):
A goal. Being evil in general, or simply killing to eat will get old fast. The goal could be as simple as trying to hurt or kill Buffy, but it has to be something. As awesome as Angelus was, he would have gotten boring quickly if he hadn't had hurting Buffy/ending the world as his goal. The exception to this rule would be if the villain is three dimensional and/or has a lot of character development, like Faith & Spike got.
Motive. They have to have a reason for their goal/behaviour. For example, creatures of non-human species could get away with acting non-human simply because they aren't human, while humans should have some sort of reason for being evil. Faith believed it was either use or be used, and she obviously had had issues in her past, making her a murderer. Warren seems to be a phsycopath (not sure if that's the right term). It's not explained why he gets the way he gets, but he still feels believeable. Maybe he was simply a bullied geek who had enough (the guy he punched in the bar after he gets superpowers, wasn't he a guy who had beaten Warren up?). Exception would be if they had a great air of mystery around themselves.
Mystery. It's interesting to study a villain, to get what makes them tick, but if a villain's simply out for food, or wants to hurt others because he/she himself has been hurt, that could get old. There needs to be some sort of mystery. That's why I'm still find vampires interesting, even after seeing so many and getting that they kill for food and fun, things the more animalistic side of me can understand. Because I still don't quite get them. I don't get what a lack of a soul does, why some are more sadictic than others, or why some seem to be so similar to how they were as humans, while still being so evil. It's a mystery. Of course, if they're too big a mystery, and lack of motive seems to me a big fat questionmark, that could be a problem too, unless they're very scary.
Better than the last villain. A random kind-of-interesting villain will do for the stand alones episodes or the smaller arcs, but a Big Bad needs to somehow be more interesting than the last one. One of the reasons The Trio is a big yawn to me. If we hadn't had Willow's magic addiction and the Spuffy "relationship" in season 6 as part-Big Bads, it wouldn't have worked.
No-no on the clichés. Fun for the random stand alone episode/issue, but not for a Big Bad. Which is why I yawn at The First wanting to end the world (only interesting in the first season 7 re-watch) and Angel's "I wanna make the world a better place for me to live in and, and oh, you're going to be my queen."-thing. It's not as unique as the other Big Bad's we've seen, and I think that-s partly why I don't like the seasons (okay, Season 8 has a lot of reasons for being not so brilliant to me, and that might even change when I continue to read).
New Big Bads, not old ones. Don't repeat, unless the character has a lot more to give. Like Amy, who we didn't see a lot of on the show, but not Warren, that had a good run in season 5-6 and is only used for comedial relief now. I'm been spoilered for season 8, and know the Master will be back. Not sure if that's a failure or not until I read. I like how they used him on the show, and hope he was brought back for a damn good reason.
So I guess I want something like what I described above. After The First and this whole Twilight deal, I feel that we need something more that hits home. Season 8 isn't finished, I hacen't even read issue 36-39 yet, so I can't really speak of what kind of evil we're dealing with here, but it seems to be about the world ending and Angel & Buffy getting mindscrewed and the universe being a big ol' bitca, with a bit of Buffy doubting herself thrown in. So I would kind that kind of evil "large", and either Joss comes up with a concept bigger than "ending all life as we know it" or we need a season 6-ish kind of bad for season 9. The next villain shouldn't be about grand schemes; it should be about how the heroes are struggling to win and grow as people in the process, which I'm not sure another The First could do.

@ tkts
Liam was probably not too strong. Sure, he looked fit-ish, but he was a drunk, probably already dying from some STD or liver failure.

I don't think it's just age(but partly). Spike killed his first slayer after years of vampires. And he and Angel seems to be one of the few vampires that could hold their own succesfully against Buffy. I can't remember how well Holden did.
So I'm guessing the line they come from could have something to do with the vampire's power.
I'm also guessing, from the spoilers I've read, that when I've read the rest of season 8 (only read up until issue 35) I'll have more thoughts on this.

Is it said how long they'll be? From what I've heard, they're going to be mini series.

^^*awwwing out loud*
That's so sweet. Here I was afraid I took the family thing too far.
Btw, AwOLing (awwwing out loud) is now a thing. I will say it until it sticks.
We should totally have a slayalive-dictionary at the new place, with our own words and other terms we use a lot.
Slayaliver - member of slayalive
karmasniping - someone who takes karma (sometimes for no good reason, or simply without saying why)
Gleek - fan of the TV show Glee
fanboy/fangirl - someone who takes their show too seriously
whedonite - Fan of Joss Whedon or his works
I think we could come up with more.

Well, I haven't read issue 36-39 yet but I think I can still say, yes. I haven't liked the character since Ats Season 5, but still read all comics that are published, with or without him, since I want to be updated to what everyone in the Buffy/Angelverse are doing, even in the cases I don't think I'll be enjoying the comics.

Just wrote a drabble and wanted to share, but won't bother with making a thread.
Title: Little sun burning, make it stop Author: Skytteflickan88 Characters: Drusilla Summary: Drusilla takes steps to be with her family again. Spoilers: Only for Angel season 5 really, and as long as you’ve seen a few episodes from that season you’re okay, but it’s actually set after Brian Lynch’s Drusilla comics (issue 24-25 of the IDW Angel series of 44 issues).
I wanted to belong, made myself a little sun, put it in my chest, thought it’d make Daddy love me again, but it burns too hot, so hot, make it stop, and he denied the sun, said she’s too broken, needs to be put to rest, so he took the stake and aimed.
My Spike saved me, said he would heal me, that I was worth saving, they fought, but I slipped away, Daddy was right, because no love, no time could heal me.
So I’m walking into the big sun, ignoring my white knight’s plea for me to stop.

I'd love to see Spike & Drusilla interaction again, but if they give her a soul, I think I'll write a "Really? AGAIN?" letter for the letter section of the comic.
Maybe it they could make it feel new and fresh, like what they did with Darla, I might like it. But it became very old very fast with Spike. His journey both in Angel season 5 and the comics after that was too similar to Angel's journey for my taste.
On the other hand, how could Drusilla getting a soul be anything like Angel & Spike's re-ensouling? She's crazy, and have serious family issues already (torturing Angel in 'What's my line', complaining about what he did to her family, then a few weeks afterwards calling Angelus "daddy" is a example of that). I can't imagine that she would react as well as Spike & Angel did. For Angel it seemed to take about a century before he got himself together. I think it would take a lot more time for her to be okay with the soul.
To sum up; Seems like it would take a ongoing series to deal with that kind of character development, so I doubt they'll put it in a mini series.
However, it wouldn't be impossible. Maybe she got a soul, since she was so lonely and missed her family, and she wanted to be with Angel & Spike. Then she couldn't deal with it, and wanted Spike's help. He could help and she killed herself. I think that plot would be very interesting. I'll think I'll write a drabble for that right now in fact.

I joined slayalive because of the Angel interaction competition. No other reason really. I had avoided to get involved in forums for a while, because the forum I had previously made my online home had been closed down by the owners (a TV channel) one day without warning, deleting all the members discussion about Buffy and life, spreading us to the wind, trying to find each other through msn and such. I had loved the forum and the members so much, but all of a sudden our community was gone and our friendships, which had once been so strong that we actually meet for a RL Buffy meetings, started to die. I almsot never speak to any of them anymore. So it took me quite some time after registring before I actually bothered to post here. I just wanted the glory of coming up with a winning comic concept, I didn't dare to get too involved in the forum. Then I started to post. After all, it's hard to keep a Buffy fanatic from sharing the Buffy love. I just wanted to post my opinions. Then I saw the community here, read the web-comic some members had made ("Mods on high") I think) and I felt the need to make a new online home for myself. So that's how I began. I longed to belong. And now, I don't know exactly when it happened, I feel like I'm a real part of slayalive. Not to sound self-centered, but I think people would notice a change in the slayalive machine if I disapeared. People would say "Why doesn't Eric bicker with anyone? Why didn't someone make a dirty joke about that incident?" I've recently been accused, behind my back I might add, of harrassment of a member (I think you can guess who). A year ago that would have made me very upset and unsure of my place here. Now I shrugged it off and a few days after, I'm not very upset by it. I know belong here. I live in a one room apartment, 6 hours by car from my number one home, my family that lives farther north. But I don't count this apartment as my second home. My heart belongs here, in this community in cyberspace. Slayalive is my second home. And I want my family to grow, and become more and more comfortable with each other. You can be my sibling if you want, sending me random PMs, joking and laughing in the What's Up thread with me, or share my sorrows. Or be my parents, the mods, which lecture me when I've been bad. Or a more distant relative, that I discuss Buffy with in the Season 8 section. To sum up: Slayalive is my home. We bicker and we bitch, we cry and we laugh. This isn't some random forum. This is a family.
