Maybe Angel will take on the identity of Twilight to fool Twilight's people? I think that could pretty much be the case. Maybe Twilight is someone that not just Buffy, but also Angel already knows. So she asked him for help. So he helped her in the way you suggested. |

You think Buffy would kiss Angel after he was revealed to be Twilight? Soulmates or not... when Angel needs killing, Buffy kills him. She's demonstrated that already. Unless maybe in the next scene she runs him through with a sword and pushes him into hell? |

Unless maybe in the next scene she runs him through with a sword and pushes him into hell? To be honest, Twilight's such a non-entity to me I have no idea how she would react. I suppose he beat her up that one time, and killed half her Slayers... but whatever, it's Angel, she'll get over it.  The cover could just be tongue-in-cheek, it doesn't mean they will actually kiss in the issue. |

and why would they bother to even do a fake cover? ok to make it that more surprising, but meh.
It annoys me, the whole comic season of Buffy annoys me, there's too many things UN buffy about it, which ruins the whole damn thing. Either continue the story true to what Buffy was, or just leave it

Oh, wow. Jeanty's cover is most likely a fakeout, I would hope that they'd have the sense to not spoil us like that. The whole while, I've been thinking that it was Angel, but I really don't want it to be. Chen's cover is completely beautiful, though.

I still haven't gotten very into S8, although Retreat did pull the series ahead in my 'like it' situation. Like I've said before, I like the Angel comics 100% more than BS8, because it doesn't feel all that different from the show. |

Ive got a feeling that there will be something that has happened, almost in front of our eyes/behind the scenes that we dont know of that we will find out soon.
We all noticed the difference in Twilights body langage etc in retreat, compared to lets say beautiful sunset.
What if Twilight was killed half way through the season or something. And Angel has been leading the twilight army under Buffy's orders for a while, would explain why Riley was there too.
Twilights plan could be Buffy's plan.

Hmm... had to stop lurking to point this out.
The other two Jeanty covers of this arc were homages to classic comic book covers. But I can't place the homage to this one... can anybody else? I'm leaning towards it NOT being one.
If it isn't a homage, well it seems like they'd want to keep that consistency for the entire arc, right? Particularly with this arc and how it plays with Buffy having Super Powers.
So perhaps that's kind of a clue that this is a mislead/fake. (Although it doesn't explain the Chen cover)

I don't know how I feel about this. I thought that Twilight could be Angel, but now that we have some imagery it seems to not fit in my head! I don't know whether I am more upset that Angel is Twilight, or that Buffy is kissing him after all that has happened! It's one thing to try and kill her, but Twilight also deliberately tried to hurt her friends, and her sister. He is also responsible for the deaths of countless slayers worldwide...right? This has to be a fake out. Or otherwise I am gonna trust that it will be made sense. I am so blank I don't know what to think.

First I must say that Jo's cover is wonderful!! The best I have seen in sometime!! Now on to the issue at hand. What if Angelus is Twilight? It would not be the first time he has tricked people, including Buffy, into thinking that he is really Angel. Sure Scott said Angel would not be making anymore big appearances in the book but he never said anything about Angelus.
I also like the idea of Angel standing in for Twilight to throw his followers and enemies off their guard. Angel has not only saved a whole city and was celeb in his city but now all vamps are cool so that gives him double public points. Imagine what would happen if the world knew that Twilight had already saved a city and now was at war with public enemies number one, Slayers!
Or it may not be Angel or Angelus but someone using glamor to pose as him.That would be a great way to get under Buffy's skin. We know Twilight is working with some magics so a glamor would be an easy trick compared to flying. I am not going to look to much into the covers until the arc starts and we see what, for sure is ,going down.
I for one love Angel as a character so seeing him back into the story would be great. But I also like what he has been up to in L.A. He has a lot on his plate and I would also be fine if he keeps to his Avengers and saving L.A.
So either way, I am happy!

I have a feeling this is an April Fool's joke. I can't imagine Dark Horse would drop the ball like this after 4 years of build up, could they?
Either way, if Angel is or isn't Twilight, it will be interesting to see what happens. Angel as Twilight makes sense given the events of After the Fall (and he has been my #1 suspect for a bit now), but I just can't wrap my head around DH screwing the pooch.
Jo's cover rocks though. Jeanty's though...good lord.
Also, for some reason "bizzare twist" suddenly makes me think Twilight is multiple people.

Angel has been my number 1 suspect for ages now. I think it fits his characterisation perfectly and will be really happy if this cover turns out to be true. Twilight believes that he is saving the world and will do anything to save it. Who does that sound like? Who’s willing to compromise themselves for the bigger picture? Angel. Who knows Buffy on an intimate level? Who would “hate to see her cry?” Who else could deliver such an emotional blow to Buffy? Angel. We’ve been given clues that it’s Angel. Buffy and Twilight’s first encounter takes place in a cemetery which, according to the Chosen DVD commentary, Joss considers ‘iconic’ for their relationship. Twilight shows up right after Buffy talks about sending Angel to Hell. Twilight reacts to the word “spike” exactly like Angel would. Angel refers to “young love” in Time of Your Life. The word Twilight means different shades of light and dark, are you looking at the sun rising or the sun setting? That’s significant to Angel as you never know if he’s the champion of mankind or the antichrist. Angel has the right complexion, build, height and jaw line and the goofy “itchy neck” moment is reminiscent of Angel’s humour – like jumping into the wrong car during City Of... And Angel has the IQ to manipulate people and orchestrate this entire thing. He knows better than anybody that Buffy’s greatest strength was her moral certainty and that the way to defeat her is not through force but by through intellect and an intimate understanding of her – “Force won’t get it done. To kill this girl, you have to love her.” Besides IMHO there’s nothing more epic than the two main leads clashing. The solicitation described them as “titans” and I really have to agree. S8 is about heading towards the end of magic and eventually Angel had to play a part in that. Everybody always imagined the Scoobies and AI teaming up to save the day but in typical Jossian fashion he surprises everybody by having Buffy and Angel fight *against* each other. I don’t think this is jumping the shark at all. I think it’s about damn near perfect and really hope the covers aren’t false. |

Wow Jo's cover is beautiful. One of the best in a long time. BUT... this is really annoying. It's pretty much obvious Angel will be back, why else would he be on both covers? That's really cool and all, but I was hoping it'd be a surprise.
Jeanty's is cover is even more annoying. It's nicely drawn, but come on! If Angel turns out to be Twilight, it will be one of the dumbest things ever in the history of everything. We've spent almost THREE YEARS trying to figure out who/what Twilight is, and to just spill the beans two months before we find out? Dumb, dumb, dumb! And if it is a fake, it's still annoying. Just showing anyone under the mask is an awful idea. This is exactly like the #17 cover, it's either Drusilla or it's Dark Willow. Now it's either Angel or it's not. A big part of the surprise is gone.

I'm just seeing it now and my reaction... Well, it's completely selfish. Because if this is straight-up true - then it makes my writing life so much easier. One guess as to how this will play out in Thought You Should Know.  Honestly, I've thought that Twilight might be Angel for a while now. I just didn't understand how this would work with the IDW comics. I don't really get the emotional end of it for Buffy. And here's the thing - if Twilight is Angel, than Angel is responsible for bombing the shit out of Buffy's Slayers - killing them. So Buffy getting snuggly with Angel as Twilight? Erm, no. Angel: "Buffy, I love you so much. So I came back into your life, lurked like I always do, even wore a mask, then manipulated you and physically attacked you - remember how fucked up you looked after I threw a church steeple at you? Ah, good times. Anyways, I know that I also had Warren and Amy bomb the castle which killed some of your Slayers, but well, you made me do it. See, you changed things and I had to do this to save the world." Buffy: "Oh, Angel! I understand. I've been so bad and wrong and misguided. If only you could have told me, trusted me to know better, but you were so right to do everything behind my back. Because I'm unworthy of your trust. Please, can't we just forget this world in peril stuff and be kissing now? Mmm, Angel." All I can say is that the comics don't always depict exactly what's happening in the story. But I think what we can say is that Angel is coming into Season 8. Not flashback!Angel or dream!Angel, but present day Angel. On one hand, Joss has had enough awareness of the IDW books to be a fan of Betta George, and has integrated non-canon elements into canon before. On the other, Jeff Mariotte's Angel comics ( The Curse, Old Friends, etc) were promptly binned when AtF started. I can't see Joss worrying about contradicting the current books. Considering that Joss has said he'd throw out Season 8 if a Buffy movie became possible, I doubt he's going to go out of his way to respect continuity for stories not being told by him. |
