I'm also a reader of Slayage. And I read about 20 academic books on Buffy. I'm that obsessed. Unfortunately, I haven't written anything myself, I just never have the time.
Underrated: Wrecked.
Heck, I know, everybody hates the way magic addiction is treated in those episodes. But Willow floating on the ceiling is so sexy, I just can't help loving it.
Overrated: Amends.
I hate anything that has anything to do with Christmas. I find the ending cheesy. And it always bores me to sleep. I know, this reasoning is feeble, but I'll just go with my emotions ...

Wow, I didn't know that many academic Buffy books existed! I read Slayage though, there are some great essays out there.
I don't hate Amends, I just think it's really corny. The worst scene by far is when Angel is waiting for the sun to come up and he and Buffy argue. The dialogue is just so cliche. Yet for some reason Joss thought it was the best dialogue he ever wrote. *facepalm*

Now I feel a little embarrassed for Joss As to the books, just have a look at the Slayage Whedonverses Bookstore, you'll be amazed! astore.amazon.com/slayagetheonl-20

Over rated. RESTLESS
I hated the episode. I felt it was too random and although it had some meanings. I felt it was a bad way to end the season. I just didn't like the first slayer idea of killing people in thier dreams and i just think people liked the episode too much and i didn't like it at all. The symbalism was okay but i just don't think it's that good of an episode.
Underated ALL THE WAY
I personally think it's one of the best episodes. I love all the Buffy Halloween episodes and it was the episode were Xander and Anya tell they are engaged so all thats going on. But you get to see Dawn be abit of a rebel. And experiance her first kiss with a guy she likes only to find out he's a vampire. I liked the Dawn & Justin realtionship and to a extent i think he really liked her but he didn't have a soul. And the vampire dusting at the end was pretty epic

I'm gonna say Underrated: Bad Eggs and Ted. I know, I know, but just hear me out. I don't know what it is about these two episodes exactly, but I just love them. Maybe it's the simplistic, basic villain of the week nature of the episodes that was such a popular formula in those early seasons. Nothing big happens in these eps, and yet there is something about them that I find entertaining.

I love it that you love Bad Eggs. This made me smile.
There's some nice development of Buffy and Angel's relationship in Bad Eggs. It's a light episode that's fun.

I'm gonna get a lot of sh*t for this, but I think the most overrated episode is "Once More, With Feeling". I have nothing against this episode. I think it's great. It just annoys me that people always seem to say that this is the best episode of Buffy ever. It is amazing, but so many better things happened during the course of the series. i agree. OMWF was a really cool episode but it was not the best of the series.

Well, I'm glad that someone appreciates it. I thought for sure I was going to get a lot of flack for that one. And you're right, we do get a lot of Buffy/Angel relationship development this ep. I think this actually may be the first ep where they are forced to acknowledge the fact that their relationship may not last long term. The "egg babies" served as a great catalyst for exploring the limits of their relationship. Maybe all the Bangel stuff is one of the reasons I really like this ep. Above all, I think this ep is just meant to be lighthearted fun before all the seriousness of the season hits.

Some thoughts about OMWF. I think that the episode can hardly be overrated. Even if one believes that it's not the best of the series, it was such a daring thing to do and so well produced that it deserves all the praise it gets. As a matter of taste or when one doesn't like musicals it's perfectly understandable if the episode doesn't hit a chord, but as an artistic achievement in the environment of US TV, it just seems indisputable to me. I hope I don't sound too absolutistic here

It's been a long time since anybody has posted on this thread, so I produce a new post, even if I wrote that last one. One episode I find notoriously underrated is "A New Man", a true gem from season 4, where Giles wakes up as a Fyarl demon after a night of drinking with Ethan Rayne. Not only is the episode hilariously funny, it is also truly fascinating with its perspective on feelings of alienation towards the people one loves and cares about when oneself doesn't really find one's place in life - one issue Giles has to cope with in season 4. Don't know why, but I just had to say this right now

^ Good call. It's a brilliant episode.
Over-rated
Storyteller. Andrew is given far too much emphasis, and the climax is undermined by the fact that Andrew doesn't really change and the tears are a cop-out solution.

I agree with Storyteller being overrated. I always look forward to watching it because I am convinced it should be funny because everybody keeps saying so, and then I'm disappointed. I especially dislike the ending with Andrew's pseudo-beginning-of-redemption.
Living Conditions is underrated. It's hilariously funny and different in style. I love Kathy - she's the perfect college roommate-villain. I think I would have liked to see more of her.

I love Living Conditions. I always look forward to watching it. I dunno about seeing more of Kathy though, I felt like shoving that Celine Dion poster down her throat the whole time she was onscreen.

OMG Yes thank you!...for the longest time i thought i was the only one who loved that scene for the sheer sexyness!...whenever i posted about that scene, no one commented back or agreed with me so i thought i was alone there lol....the song playing in the background ("Black Cat Bone" by: Laika) is also very kickass which makes me love it even more! ;D

Oh and I absolutely agree with you about Once More With Feeling. I'm an avid fan of musicals and this one is a top favorite of mine.

Over-rated: "Ted" my friends are always going on about this one and I just don't get why it's so important to them Underrated: "Selfless" I think that Anya's character really grows in this episode and that people have a tendancy to overlook it
