Over-rated: "Ted" my friends are always going on about this one and I just don't get why it's so important to them Underrated: "Selfless" I think that Anya's character really grows in this episode and that people have a tendancy to overlook it I love "Ted". It has John Ritter! But I agree with you on "Selfless". It's my favorite episode.

Living Conditions is one of the BEST of the series. It's definitely one of the top 5 funniest episodes. I think season 4 as a whole is pretty underrated. It's nowhere near as bad as season 7-sorry! From the posts I just read about bad eggs- THAT episode is being overrated! Not bad-b/c it IS still buffy of course-but not at all one of the better hours.

Selfless is one wonderful episode - but I truly don't believe it is underrated. There is a lot of love and appreciation for it.
And Bad Eggs is not overrated - it is nearly universally hated (as far as I can tell). That's why I pointed out that I don't find it all that bad.
I agree with season 4 being underrated. It's one of my favourite seasons. I don't even think that Adam is all that bad.

I don't think season four is that bad either, It's not 'amazing' but season 1 and 7 are far worse in my opinion!

Season 4 is full of gems: The Freshman (Yes!); Living Conditions; The Harsh Light of Day (Spike returning, anyone?); Fear, Itself; Wild At Heart (who doesn't cry at the end of this episode, what with Oz leaving?); The Initiative (Spike and Willow, need I say more?); Pangs; Something Blue; Hush (!!); A New Man; This Years Girl and Who Are You (Faith! Willow and Tara!); Superstar (controversial but at the very least very interesting and entertaining); New Moon Rising (again with the tears: the scene with Oz and Willow in the car by the end of the episode is a sidereal hour of television); The Yoko Factor (Spike driving them all apart: marvellous); Primeval (yes, this episode is really underrated); Restless (deserving all the praise it gets). End of rant

Season 4 is my third favorite season. There, I said it. Mine too! Although third place sort of flip-flops between season 4 and season 2. Speaking of season 2, I never see enough love for What's My Line. I love those episodes, especially part 2.

I'm sorry but I'm really not a big fan of season 4- I just get bored by all the military-talk and all the Riley I think its problem was that it was caught between being a high-school-y easy viewing TV show like the preceeding seasons and the darker adult show that developed from season 5 onwards, it didn't define itself and therefore people found it incoherent

I've always thought of season four as somewhat of transitionary season.

That's ok - not everybody has to share my love for season 4 ;D
I agree that it's not as coherent as for example season 5 - but this is, in my eyes, exactly one of its virtues. It has many brilliant single episodes. And it is true to life after high school where it takes a while to get a grip. So even its incoherence simply feels right to me.

OK, now I'll do something bold. I will hold that Where The Wild Things Are is not as bad as it is always claimed. First, it is not anti-sex, it is anti anti-sex education. Second, Riley uses condoms. Good boy. I don't mind them being absorbed in being together in bed, it's how things sometimes are when you discover the pleasures. Plus: Spike's monologue when he first thinks he will help and them reasons himself into not helping because he just doesn't care; Spike and Anya; a fine little Willow & Tara scene; finally: Anthony Stuart Head singing and Willow's comment on how she used to have a crush on him. As I said: It wasn't all that bad.

Underrated:
Season 5, Real Me. I never really see anyone mention it or give it any praise. I thought it was an amazing introduction to Dawn, set up her relationships with everyone, was actually pretty darn funny and in the end left me excited about where the season was heading. Even now, knowing how season 5 ends, I still get a kick out of watching it.
Overrated:
Season 7, Chosen. I seen some negative reviews of it, but overall most people seem to of loved the series finale. I was left kind of underwhelmed considering it was the last episode. Angel's visit was too brief, the First still came off as a lame villain, the Turok Hans all of sudden became really easy to kill and I didn't like that the big fight mostly boiled down to Willow doing one big spell and Spike wearing a blingtastic necklace for the win. Not to say it's bad or anything. It was okay, it had a lot of great moments that I enjoyed and I still cried like a baby at the end. It's just the episode wasn't nearly as great as it could of been.
