TWILIGHT UNMASKED! Speculation is over. The man behind the mask has finally been revealed! This thread WILL contain spoilers, so if you're still avoiding them turn back now. Here's a few discussion starters off the cuff: - What do you think of the Twilight reveal?
- How will this affect the rest of the Season and characters?
- What are you hoping will happen?
- Is there more to it than simply "he" is evil?

I still think there is a trick, and Twilight is in fact Ethan Rayne Maybe he will use a spell or a robot to look like Angel to fool Buffy.

I don't like it to be Angel,Angel has he own story and concept i don't want him to be mixed in Buffy's plot.. If it is Ange,l obviously it would effect Buffy because angel is her love significant.
I hope its the First because i have hope that someday the first would reach its potential.

You do not need to use Spoiler tags. I mean you can if you want to, but this thread has a spoiler warning in the first post. That means that if someone reads the first post, yet continues reading and is spoiled (and gets mad)...they were warned!

I can't wait to see how they handle this. Seeing Angel back in Buffy is gonna be so exciting, and I'm not even that much of an Angel fan.

Posting this without having read the issue yet...
I made a lot of posts after the leak about how much I hated this development, and that I think the things Twangel has done put him beyond any justly deserved chance at redemption.
And I still believe that. The only things that would save him for me now as a character would be if he's not in control of his actions (and I know Joss won't go that way) or if he's a future version of himself who's had experiences we don't know about, or if there's some kind of twist and he's not really the one responsible for the things that have been done in his name.
I continue to reject absolutely the "greater good" argument some have theorized... that he's doing these brutal, cruel things in order to save the world from yet another Apocalypse(tm). Joss is, of course, free to tell that story if he wants to. But I won't be going along for the ride if he does. I require of my heroes that they fight evil with good, not with a different brand of evil. I also require of them that they have the strength of character not to fall again and again into the pitfall of evil, and require one shot at Redemption(tm) after another.
My greatest fear is that we'll be asked as readers to subscribe to the premise of "we killed a million innocent people to save a million and one, so we're heroes and you should invest yourself in us emotionally." I want heroism in my story, not cynical arithmetic.
So that is the status of my concern as of 8:35 AM ET, on 3 March 2010.

Its just Angel is to simple i want deeper mythology then a vampire, thats why i loved Glory our first hell god. The First brought back Angel to kill Buffy, the first was like that wasn't the plan but it would do. The first power lies in its ability to deceive, torment and manipulate others, the first plan for Angel might be still continuing. I think that be an interesting to read, yet again the only subject and scourer is angry that good is surpassing evil, but the first is full of emotion's and anger, so the first was like, get to the enemy ( Buffy) their probable go for her close ones.
I could be wrong. I hope the ending is thrilling to read.

Not read the issue yet but loving the denial in this thread. "It's not Angel, it's Ethan Rayne/The First." Come on, I know Joss likes his twists, but to go from Angel - the second most important character in the entire Buffyverse - to relative nobodies like Ethan and the First would be a major anti-climax/copout. Those characters don't have the same emotional kick, it would be like "yeah, this story's not half as interesting as we made you think it was". Unless Joss and Dark Horse are blatantly lying to our faces (and there's a difference between surprising an audience and betraying them) then Angel is irrefutably Twilight.
And Andrew, I respectfully disagree with your concern. I know you like simple stories where "The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and [the good guys] always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after" but I don't need my characters to be happy and true to enjoy the story. Besides, I remain firmly in the belief that this is some future version of Angel that may or may not come to be, so the point of redemption might be a moot one since our Angel might never become Twilight. Even it it's not, I'm happy to see where the story goes, and to have Angel in a meaningful role again (as opposed to his enjoyable but irrelevant appearances in the current IDW series).

Would it be a stretch to think that Twilight had Warren create an Angel-bot and they made another costume for it to throw Buffy off? And in the final battle, she'll think she's fighting Angel as "Twilight", but then the real Twilight will come out behind her and be like "Gotcha!", like what Buffy did to Glory in S5!

I think that undercuts the emotions involved here. Highly doubt Joss would do that.

I know I will be hated very much for saying this but I have to say it for my own sake. I can see the light in what Angel did when he decided to become Twilight.

I think the reveal of Twilight was handled brilliantly, however, I am still in shock that Twilight is Angel. Yes, even though I knew it was coming, it was still shocking to actually see it on the page. I still don't see how it's Angel, though. I mean, it just doesn't make sense. I say there is more going on here, and it's definitely more than, "hey I'm evil." I am going to have to read the issue again and maybe then things will make more sense. I am not ashamed to admit that I read the whole issue in the parking lot of my comic shop. I just couldn't wait! Yeah, I'm a self-proclaimed nerd girl. Oh yeah, and am I the only one that's confused about the whole glowy thing?

I think Joss isn't that dumb to post the evidence all over the front page its just spoiles the whole concept of the story. Thats why i still have faith in Joss he has something unique ( as always), into the finale issue, i hope so. And i hope my theory is right because i want the first back.

How they are having homage to X-Men, Spiderman, and Superman. I like what the explanation will be for the universe, or in other words why Buffy and Angel, glow together. Also the "fallout" of what Season 8 is should be this one coming up in #35. apparently the covers for 34 are recalled? I dunno. But I like this storyline we are going into the vamp and slayer in next issue , thanx Giles love ya

I have a feeling that Dana's name is about to be mentioned. Her turning into a Slayer and killing people could be ONE of the reasons why Angel did/does what he did/does.

I would also like "After the fall" to be mentioned in Angel's flashbacks into becoming Twilight , as well as telling Buffy he was human and that he might also end the world at some point. I would also like to see Wesley and Cordy and baby Connor (they don't have to say his name because they don't have the rights to use teenage Connor) in some kind of a dream/vision as he becomes more powerful.

I'm sure there's legal issues in there somewhere that would prohibit that. I know they can use Wesley and Cordy, but flashing back to human Angel in ATF? I don't think so. I don't think it would affect much anyway.
