So with Joss directing and re-writing a major big-budget Avengers movie, how is he going to handle executive producing Buffy Season 9?
I would almost prefer they delay season 9 by a few months until Joss can give his attention to it, rather than him just farming out the writing to various people and barely having time to even glance at what they're doing. Seems like that would be a recipe for turning season 9 into one big repeat of "Predators & Prey."

I remember Joss or Scott saying there's a good chance he wouldn't be writing any of it, so that won't be a problem. As for producing, he handled Season 8 with Dollhouse. It must be possible. Obviously The Avengers is much bigger though....
I think I also recall Joss saying that Brad Meltzer gave him an idea of getting all the writers together in one room, and just going through the story and issues together. That'd make things a lot easier for him.

A big change in terms of how the story for S9 is going to be broken down is the writers' room approach. That way, the focus and major story beats can be laid down in stone, so that everyone knows where the previous writer's arc is going. More than "P&P", "Retreat" was a major offender in terms of continuity screw-ups. "P&P" just had mostly mediocre writing...

I was hoping Joss would be able to write at least an arc or two of season 9. It sounds like it's going to be a very new direction for the Buffyverse, and I hope he has time to at least keep a hand on the wheel.

I think it will be fine, as mentioned he did Dollhouse and season 8 at the same time and it worked out fine. Plus he's worked on three different shows at the same time before. He seems to be a man who can multi-task as he has a lot of passion. I'm excited for both buffy season nine and the avengers and I think both will be as good as he can make them.

Dollhouse was a TV show where he doesn't have be on set most of the time really. Avengers is a whole different story, as it's a large-scale film that's combining four previous films (five if you include Iron Man 2)

I agree with AndrewCrossett. I'd be happy to see Buffy season 9 delayed until Joss is able to devote the proper time and attention to it. On the other hand, Joss has balanced multiple projects before, so if anyone can do it, he can. My only concern is that our beloved Buffyverse could suffer because Joss is a mastermind who simply has too much on his plate. Overall, though, I have faith that whatever he decides to do, it will work out for the best.

I want Joss involved with season 9 heavily, otherwise I don't care to have a season 9 comic book. Whedon tends to spread himself very thin and sometimes you can see the work hurt as a result.
Was Whedon around a lot for seasons 6 and 7 of Buffy? It sure didn't feel like he was as involved, cause those seasons were rough.
Avengers, and now rewriting some of Captain America supposedly, he's going to be very very busy and focused on that. That's a huge undertaking and I can't imagine the pressure of a project like that.

It took 3 years after the show ended to bring us Season 8, and I'd be fine waiting another 3 for Season 9. Joss will do what he thinks is best for the series, if that means Season 9 still launches next year, or in 10 years, so be it.

i'd at least hope that joss has a hand in writing one of the arcs, like the finale. but imho, i feel that joss' work tends to suffer when he's got more on his plate. i want both projects to succeed, but i wouldn't be hurt (too badly) if joss opted to delay the S9 start up to make sure that the avengers get the full attention they deserve.

I actually hope he get fired so he can work on Buffy, and Buffy alone. But that's a mean wish that seems kind of hopeless.

Personally, I'm way more excited for The Avengers than Season Nine. Besides, with all the stuff that goes into directing a film (preproduction, filming, postproduction stuff, media appearances, etc.) it shouldn't take much more than a year, right? Season nine will run a lot longer than that, so he could write some of it down the line anyway.

Woah, that is a mean wish :/
If Joss's "The Avengers" is successful, he'll be able to do whatever he wants with the rest of his career. That is big.
But I still don't understand how Season Nine is going to work. Nor do I understand how they thought adding all the Angel characters to their roster at this time was a good decision.

^^ Do you mean sucess+fame=more power at darkhorse/FOX?
I wonder if we would finally get a Buffy movie in that case.

Yeah... where James Marsters can be cast as a prettified Master, without hours of make-up, and the rest of the gang suffer midlife crises, while trading inappropriately-timed sex puns while juggling slaying with diet plans, colonoscopies, cholesterol checks, and balding.

Exaggerating a bit, aren't we? But I have to admit there is a reason I get depressed when I see newly taken pics of some actors. But some of them don't look that different. SMG, Hannigan, Trachtenberg, Head don't look that much older. But hey, there's the possibility off making a movie about a new slayer. Or Fray. If Joss makes it big, who knows?

I think it's too late for a Buffy movie with the original cast. But there are other projects that would still be do-able, like "Ripper" or a Faith movie/miniseries with Eliza. Perhaps an animated Buffy movie or series would work.
"Goners" and "Serenity 2" are probably the most likely Jossverse movie follow-ups to Avengers.

I would be very happy if we got Serenity 2.
I hate that we only got to see the beginning of Mal & Inara's(they seemed almsot ready to date) and Kaylee & Simon's relationships, not how their relationships developed. That's the best part. Like movies usually do, they end when it get's juicy (the characters say they love each other, but we don't even get to see how it works out for them). That's one of the reasons I prefer TV series, we get to see much more character development.
So I guess what I would prefer that Joss did a TV series.
