The Chicago Tribune reviews both "Belonging" and the following week's "The Public Eye" HERE. Some spoilers... you've been forewarned.

Best episode of the series yet. Seriously. Dichen and Fran just put to rest any questions over their acting abilities.
But my stupid local station accidentally jumped to a stupid commercial right in the middle of the scene where Boyd confronts Echo about her book. She tells him "I can make out some of the words" and then the stupid commercial, and when it comes back on Boyd is saying "some of them aren't ready to wake up."
Can anyone tell me what was said during that scene? I don't understand the significance of the "for the storm" note Echo found at the end, and I assume it relates to that scene.

I haven't had much love for Season 2 so far, but this episode reminded me just how amazing Dollhouse can be. That was emotionally draining, maybe the best episode of the show so far. Going to have to rewatch it again before fully commenting, but this was just genius.

that episode of Dollhouse was the most tragic, heartbreaking, shocking, horrible thing I've ever seen and yet it sustains the notion that something so beautiful and pure can overcome almost anything. The moral complexities were no longer toyed ...around with, they were full on here and the consequences cannot be described. That was amazing. This show is amazing. If this is its last season, it's going out with a bang.

In my opinion, this was the best episode of the season......and I'm almost ready to declare it my favorite of the series so far. They FINALLY stopped holding back. They went to so many dark places that television is afraid to go. And if what I've read about eps 5 and 6, December is going to start out with a bang! (The only episode that may trump this in my mind is "Epitaph One"---Go Jed and Maurissa! Twice!) I just wish we didn't have to wait so long for the rest of the season Stupid Sweeps.

Can anyone tell me what was said during that scene? I don't understand the significance of the "for the storm" note Echo found at the end, and I assume it relates to that scene. Echo says that something bad is coming, and Boyd basically cautions her against doing what she's doing, saying that she may bring the storm down upon herself. Going by memory here, so I may not be paraphrasing entirely accurately, but that's the gist of it. S2 has been generally lackluster for me, until this point. "Belle Chose" was good, but this one is a game changer in a whole new way. Not only did the show go to some pretty dark places (the scene where Boyd and Topher are taking care of business kinda made me gag a little), but it also continues to develop Topher's and Adelle's character arcs, bridging them from where they were in S1 and the future. The scene where she tells him that he's the only one in the Dollhouse who isn't morally compromised (because he was amoral to begin with) was disturbingly tender, and cold at the same time. Loved the scene where Victor is gathering up pots of black paint, so that Sierra can't use them. And Echo urging him on was mildly disturbing... she had not shown such a degree of self-awareness yet. And for her to start manipulating people, pushing them, urging them... creepy. It's like a child orchestrating some diabolical scheme. And yay for Indian chiefs! Sierra/Priya finally gets to put a word to that emotion she feels for Victor: love. And it probably is love in its purest form, without the taint of lust. I seriously loved this ep. Probably will have to rewatch it this weekend.

This episode was deffinetly the best one this season. Belle Chose was amazing, but mostly because of Victor... this one everyone did well. I had been waiting for a Sierracentric episode and this one delivered exactly what I wanted! It was amazing and it made my heartache at parts soooo it gets a 10/10 from me!

I thought this episode was fantastic. Best yet. I was tearing up at the end, during the last scenes with Topher and Sierra.
Now we have to wait til December... grr.

The scene where she tells him that he's the only one in the Dollhouse who isn't morally compromised (because he was amoral to begin with) was disturbingly tender, and cold at the same time. I was struck by the fact that, even though Adelle was the one insulting Topher over his lack of morals, he was the one who tried to help Priya (at great risk to himself if he got found out), while Adelle just cowered in her office, selling Priya down the river to save herself. I've seen people on other sites criticizing the "sudden" appearance of a moral compass for Topher, but anyone who's been paying attention knows it's not sudden. It's always been there... he's just now finding the motivation and will to act on it. And he's continuing his research into imprinting via broadcast. When he unleashes that hell upon the world, I'm sure it will be with the best of intentions. The central tragedy of Topher's character will be that the more he tries to be a good person, the more trouble comes of it. With this episode, Boyd has reason to see both Topher and Echo in new lights. Along with the absent Ballard, we might be seeing the start of the alliance that will (try to) take down Rossum and the Dollhouse. And Echo urging him on was mildly disturbing... she had not shown such a degree of self-awareness yet. And for her to start manipulating people, pushing them, urging them... creepy. It's like a child orchestrating some diabolical scheme. From what we've heard about the next couple of episodes, Summer Glau's character knew Caroline in her pre-Echo days, and hates her for some reason. Is it possible that Caroline wasn't the good, innocent person most of us have assumed she was? I didn't really catch what it was that Echo found in her book at the end with the "for the storm" note. I think it said "All Access Pass" or something like that. Was it a security pass to get in and out of the Dollhouse?

Yeah Andrew - It appeared to be an All Access Pass to the Dollhouse. Wow, AMAZING episode. Jonathan Frakes did a bangup job. Powerful, poignant. It might be my fave so far. I really loved when Priya was confessing her love for Victor and I almost wanted her to meet him while she had her memory and he didn't - I thought that would have been fascinating to watch. Just awesome in every way.

I think it said "All Access Pass" or something like that. Was it a security pass to get in and out of the Dollhouse? I find it kinda ironic that Topher's moral compass is finally actually pinging, after the original compass left the house (Claire). It's kinda like his finally saying that he made Claire a person, vs. just a Doll imprinted with the doctor's skills actually got him to realize that his "toys" aren't just that. I don't think Adelle is all that clueless about what went down. I was under the impression that she knew that Boyd was telling a convenient lie at the end. Adelle has been shown to be a very calculative manipulator when called for... highly possible that this was another one of those times. Also found the fact that she tried to quell Topher's guilt by telling him he had no choice in the matter quite touching.

Adelle is very much aware that Boyd was giving a "convenient" lie - she uses that very word when she hears the news - "Isn't that convenient?" - the line positively drips with irony.
Her comforting Topher with the "no choice" line sounded very much like a mother sharing the secret of how she deals with the world with her son. "Tell yourself you had no choice, my son. It's what I do."

Arguably my favorite so far. Just Wow. Boyd truly caught me off guard this ep. He was just so cold about the body, bringing supplies, telling Topher to drain it first... almost ugly. He was so pure when he first began to be Echo's Handler, now--he's been jaded by the Dollhouse. Adelle also caught me off guard this ep. I loved her little snipes to Nolan in the beginning, though I didn't think she would choose her job over an obvious moral decision she was prepared to do. I figured she would have him killed by Sierra, instead that was done unbeknown by Topher. Poor Guy. Unfortunately, I agree with AC3PO: it does look as though they are writing Topher to ironically condemn the world to chaos with his growing morality. With this and Epitaph One, I don't see the future changing, nor a good ending for Topher. So Echo is not only more coherent this episode, but she is pulling strings all over the Dollhouse, keeping a journal, and sketching something on her five-star floor coffin-cover (anyone able to read that? Personalities?). I wonder, did Boyd give her that all-access pass? Sierra and Victor were the only points of light for the episode. Their innocent love was the balance for all the darkness. Very well written episode. I can only hope it plateaus from here.

Very well written episode. I can only hope it plateaus from here. Why? I hope this isn't the peak yet, and that we go to even more challenging places. This is the second season, and from all current accounts, it's unlikely that we're getting a third season, or even the back 9 eps. At this point, I'd much rather the writers pull out all the stops and go all out. Might as well finish with a bang. And yeah, I did notice that the scrawls were personalities, or at least notes that can be construed to be about personalities, I think. I only caught a really quick glimpse, and the one word that jumped out right away was "Ghost".

I don't know if this was mentioned before (I'm too lazy to read through all the posts) but did anyone else think that the scene where Priya stood up after killing Nolan beautifuly imagery? With the black silhouette next to her bird motif painting...it was just really well thought out.

I saw Topher's name scratched into the pod roof. I think it's all just bits of important information Echo retains, and when she goes to bed she studies it so as not to forget.
