www.typingtest.com/Easy and free! Choose the length of your test (a longer one will probably yield more accurate results), choose what you want to type and then just type it. Just for reference, 36 WPM is average and most office jobs require you to be able to type at least 40 WPM. I've taken it a few times and it varies a few WPM, but overall it's around 42, never under 40. I'd like for it to be higher, but it's improved since I took it a few months ago.

First time: 43WPM. Second time: 46WPM. I would've done more tests but I got busy typing other stuff. But this site is really cool! It really helps me get more used to my Apple keyboard. I never really liked any keyboard that wasn't PC. Thanks for showing this site Eric!

A while ago I just googled typing test and it was the first to show up. I've been using it occasionally ever since. So, do you have a new computer? I've had a Mac for a while, and I can no longer use PC keyboards. I know the differences aren't huge, but it's the little things, like the Command Key. I'm a chronic hotkey abuser.

^^ I just switched to a Mac recently, Eric. The spacing of the keys took me some time to get used to. And using the command key. I fumble more now when switching between mac and windows. Iceeh★-- Me too... I got 69 wpm. Anyone else required to play typing games in computer lab in school? That's how I learned to touch type.

I've had my iMac for maybe a year and I still haven't gotten completely used to the keyboard system. I have a PC laptop too, and so I switch off a lot.

The test told me I typed 75 WPM.
Which tells me I need a life.

I guess I don't use PC based keyboards enough to notice something like that. Unlike you two, I rarely have to go back and forth. I just took the test again and I got 47 WPM (48 minus one error). I guess the test itself is good practice. (:

(: I feel like the keys on the Mac are a little bit farther apart, and so my fingers are spaced differently when they strike the keys. Or maybe I just have weirdly shaped hands, I do notice a huge difference between using a Macbook, and an iMac with a keyboard. It feels really strange to type on an iMac. They have those at school and I don't like to use them. What kind of Mac do you use?

I used to do this all the time in elementary school. We had computer lab either once or twice a week. Lol... Mavis Beacon... EDIT: There is a difference in spacing? First go: 58 wpm (62 if not including errors) Second go: 52 wpm (57 if not including errors) Third go: 72 wpm (74 if not includuing errors)
Well, I changed them each time and there's the results. Kind what I expected from myself, seeing as how I write a lot....which makes my lifestyle sound kinda sad

Whooo. My result: 82 WPM. I made no mistake (which is unusual for me). I learned to type in school already. It obviously pays

Wow, Darth Rosie, that's an insane tying speed! I'm muchly impressed.
I got 65 wpm. I've had that speed since I was in high school, I doubt it'll ever change. I don't touch type properly. I mean, I do touch type, but my hands aren't positioned in the "correct" way.

I got a 68. I wish I could remember what I was like when I first started typing.

Thanks you guys It's really just a question of exercise and of taking the time to learn to type with 10 fingers. That's quite a drag, but it makes life so much easier when you've gone through the process.
