Most of you picture vampires to be of the Dracula/Rice/Stoker kind of variety from Europe, they are just part of vampire lore but there are different breeds of vampires in myths and legends in other places of the world, did you know that? more than just vampires who burn in the sunlight, have fangs and suck blood.
There is some legends of vamps in Australia, Africa, South America, Hawaii, New Zealand, Caribbean Islands, Asia and even in Native American/Canadian legends.
There are vampires who don't require fangs or sucking blood as they can suck out souls/lifeforces/energy/youth instead of blood (Psi-vampires or Psychic vampires in other places even in Asia where they are told commonly especially in Japan), some can walk in the daylight without being killed (ala The Egyptian vampire and other breeds), some vampires can be cannibals (ala the Wendigo legends of Native American and Canadian legends), some can rip hearts out from animals and humans alike to eat them instead of for their blood, some can't have fangs but rather sharp as hell human teeth (ala Egyptian, Some South American types, Filipino etc.), some can be possess people, some can become other animals like Tigers to snakes to spiders, and many more.
If you don't believe me, look up on google for vampire lore around the world and Psi-vampires.

I prefer the Buffy lore. But that's only because I've only ever done Buffy and Twilight, vampire-wise.
And Twilight vampires are really, incredibly lame.

As much as I hate the sparkling and the fact that they don't have fangs, the rest of the package that comes with being a Twilight vamp is not too shabby.
-Intense and incredible beauty -Enormous strength -Practically indestructable -No need for sleep, rest etc.
Those are some pretty nice perks. But, as people have pointed out, you do have to sparkle, which lessens the coolness. Plus, I really, really hate that Stephanie Myers defanged them. And then there's the fact that they're stuck in a melodramatic, over-the-top, whiney, emo teenage love story. Definitely lessens the appeal.

Are you all being nothing but ADD people? have you been paying attention to words i've been saying about different vampires? please for gods sake, stop being idiots and pay attention once more and loook again.
Please please look again, vampires aren't always fanged creatures because in Egypt and some other places they have sharp as razor human teeth and some vampires walk in the daylight without being killed like the Egyptian kind and other breeds. And some vampires i repeat vampires of other places like Asia suck out souls/lifeforces/energy out with powers in their mouths instead of blood.
Please you ADD ridden people, pay attention again and look up on different vampire myths because Bram Stoker and Dracula didn't invent vampires and their lore.

Someone needs to calm down.... and agreed. with above posts. Stephanie Meyer butchered vampire mythology by making them sparkle. Such a joke...

Okay... let's revise a few ground rules, shall we? First of all: no calling other member names. That includes things like "idiot", or "ADD", or anything of the sort. What exactly is the point of this thread anyway? To inform people about the different types of "vampires"? To promote a discussion about the different vampire lore that people have been exposed to? If so, perhaps your post should have been more inviting, rather than a random information dump that left me clueless as to how to respond. That said, I know very well how to respond to members who fall out of line. Consider this a warning to play nice. Thanks.

The whole allure of vampires to me is that they are humans with a twist and the twivamps are pretty much invincible. Which is sooo boring. No one wants to be so powerful. There's no conflict!

Also, I have a book on vampires, which states the different types of vampires, such as psi-vamps and vampires from different regions that are different from each other (like traditional, modern, chupacabra, rakshasas and etc), so harrycanyon, I'd like to say thanks for a pointless post, cuz I'm sure I'm not the only one who knows about other types of vampires

In an episode of the X-files Mulder talks about the different types of vampires from different cultures, he mentions that the thing they all seem to have in common is that they're very obsessive-compulsive. I haven't really noticed any mention of obsessive-compulsiveness in vampire myths and legends (though I'm not very well read on the subject).
