With "Buffy: The Origin", we had the fact that it was adapted directly from Joss's own original script for the movie (green vampires notwithstanding), and that he explicitly said that we could take it as canon.
I don't take "Asylum" and "Shadow Puppets" as canon, because they were originally written with no input from Joss at all... after the fact, Joss read them, said he liked them, and wanted elements of them incorporated into AtF.
The question here is, is Joss having any input into the Spike story at all? Did he give Brian his ideas for Spike's doings between AtF and season 8 and tell him to go ahead and write based on that? If so, it's as canonical as AtF. Or did he just say, "make up whatever story you want and I won't contradict it in the future?" If that's the case, it's probably more along the lines of "Asylum."

Oh, here's the Buffy books Scott Allie has written. Two stories in these two works: Tales of the Slayer, Vol 2 and Tales of the Slayer, Vol 4. All the characters are original characters, so I'm kinda hoping that the voice-writing is on Joss' shoulders and Allie's more helping bang out the structure and making sure all the dangling plot lines are covered. I just was really looking forward to Joss-penned character voice action.

Btw, when I brought up Lynch's previous work, I wasn't making a case for how the new SPIKE book should be canon. All I was saying is that the migraine AC was talking about isn't new... we've had those debates before, so the canon argument about the book wouldn't be a new thing.

You know the canon debate is tired when I don't even wanna engage. I'm gonna go with a knee-jerk "no" reaction. Haha, this would be where Pat and I start disagreeing again. To which I say, "It's not canon..." (I kid, I kid. There's not enough info to say yea or nay about the SPIKE comic yet imo. It's really not enough for IDW to say it's canon. It's probably canon-compliant if Lynch has been checking stuff with Whedon, at the very least. But I think it takes Whedon saying "Yeah, this is what happened" before you can put a gold sticker on it. Or direct involvement from Whedon like in AtF.)

Just stepping OT here for a moment to say DAYUM, Faith made a sexy Buffy. And that's canon.

That's SMG all the way, bb. ♥ (I've recently collected an obscene amount of GIFs which I've taken to using to express myself. Just FYI.)

I'm not sure how to interpret the sexy face, Emmie, but for sure we disagree on the canon front haha. Not sure that's ever gonna change.
I'l still 100% with IDW, and I think they're the best dudes in the industry, both creative-wise and personal-wise.
Huh, just noticed something. It was just announced that the respective editors of Buffy and Angel will be writing their titles. That's a bit funny.

Lol! I'm telling you it's not canon "because it's wrong." DUH. I'm guessing you were too distracted by the sexyface to read her lips, eh? Yeah that is a bit odd about the editors. (The Buffy GIFs are making this thread 10x better, right? Right? Should I do some AtS next?)

Yes, to the Mariah thing and the GIF thing. The way she talks about the characters really helped me through some rough patches in the story.

I think the world would be a better place if we all communicated through Buffy GIFs. Sadly, we cannot. (Or at least, we don't. Not yet.) Yeah, Mariah is a cool lady. I hope she's got the Character Voice skills. That's one of those things you either got or you don't. *fingers crossed* This one's just for you, Pat:

Here's Joss quote which I transcribed from the panel: The degree to which Allie is co-writing is ambiguous. He could very well have been a glorified fact checker, making Joss aware of all the things he needed to payoff and therefore helped with the pacing of the story (which an editor generally already does). Or Joss is handing him notes and he's writing. Or they're doing a more collaborative variant of options. Could be that Scott is merely writing a whole issue. Or two. What I'm saying is, we have a statement (Allie will co-write), but no real details (other than what they did together in a room in LA). And hey, Faith may have made a sexy Buffy, but that was SMG channeling her inner Faith, so it was her all the way too. And I totally read her lips (though, I don't think I have to, since that entire speech in kinda burned into my memory). ETA: Btw, the GIFs are totally slowing down my page load... so quit it, EM!

Tell your internet to stop being sloooooooooooow! I agree about Allie's involvement being ambiguous. In fact, I transcribed that same passage and said basically the same thing on BF. Hivemind reassembled!

Let's not forget about good ol' David Tischman, who showed us how to rock a miniseries with Barbary Coast. Also... hey, if it all else fails, I'll write it. ... Yes. Yes, it is.

Pat and Wesley have a bromance going on? Or was there some homoerotic context that I missed? I mean, Wesley is whipping out and firing off two barrels there... PS: Good to know that our hivemind is not completely obliterated by the space frak.

Pat and Wesley the most have a bromance. I wanted to name my next dog Wesley, but its my girlfriend's cat's name soooo I can't. Darm. Buuuut yeah. Wesley is my favorite, ever.
I wrote and pitched a Wesley comic. Thinking of posting it. It was called "Angel: Whosoever You Be."

Quoted for re-emphasis with triplicate signatures and several expletives followed by the word "YES".
The above sentence makes no sense because now I want to re-read Barbary Coast. I think I'll do that once I've poked through The Chain again.
