i dont like to know that angel on backgrouund all season nine....but i do like to know that he will be there and non continum??? thats sucks.... but since they gonna be around for season nine i'm hoping to see illyria... and since its various time line i would like to see fred/wesley/illyria.... and would be a great way to pull up everyone together (i know know but a guy can dream right?) and i think that maybe everyone will split up in diferent places, and have to find a way to be together by the end of the season?

"Things get Ugly but Buffy cuts through this" I am not sure this implies anybody taking over as chief-Ex. What it sounds like is Spike arrives with more info about the whole Twilight deal than anyone has at the moment (Allie said so himself). And apparently, for some reason, Angel's off doing his own thing. So while I dunno if Spike is chief-ex per se, his role isn't trivial. Kinda glad that this last arc isn't being treated as merely a reunion montage, but rather it'll be heroes doing what needs to be done to save the world. Or some variant of saving the day.

I'm sure all the Spuffies will be overjoyed that their arch-nemesis Scott Allie will be taking over the writing just as Spike arrives on the scene. And... the way Scott was talking about the IDW series explaining the origins of Spike's ship and crew made it sound an awful lot like it's being considered fully in continuity with season 8... canonical.

Hi! I believe our podcast interview with Brian Lynch (coming up) also elaborates a bit more on the crossover-ish nature of Spike's arrival. We're just weeding through all of that audio now.

So why does Scott think everyone but Buffyfest hates him? We don't hate him. That kind of bugs me a little. He knows we love him here! I think he was just showing the love to Buffyfest since they were doing the interview. You know, it's probably because of the negative history at SlayAlive; I mean, the origin of how Scott first came into fandom (which is pretty epic in the badness, but let's not rehash it). Buffyfest is probably the only site where he hasn't encountered any negative criticism. Which isn't surprising as it's a blog run by a few people, compared to the hundreds of different fans at SlayAlive and Whedonesque who follow the comics news regularly. I wouldn't read too much into it. When I spoke with him a few days ago, he seemed good and friendly as always. I'm sure all the Spuffies will be overjoyed that their arch-nemesis Scott Allie will be taking over the writing just as Spike arrives on the scene. Not all, no. *looks down at banner* But you're right that a number of Spuffy fans aren't thrilled. There's some long history behind it. Heck, it's not just Spuffy fans. One of the most pro-Season 8 fans ever didn't react well to the news that Joss wasn't solo writing the finale. Initially, it was more about anyone not-Joss writing it. But that knee-jerk reaction has settled down thankfully and people seem better about it now.

The Spike series is canon. That was one of the announcements made at the IDW panel at SDCC. Joss says it's canon? I only ask because Chris Ryall's definition of "canon" has been known to not correspond exactly to the most commonly accepted definitions, where IDW titles are concerned.

As I recall, it was IDW saying the SPIKE series was canon. To many people (including me, maybe it's mostly me), it takes Joss saying it's canon for it to count (or for it to have Joss' name on it like AtF). Hence, why it's still up in the air to me. edited to add: Bitsy, where the hell are our avatars? I blame you for this. I blame you, too, Bitsy!

I *hope* it's canon, and what Scott said made it sound like it will be. But there's a line between "compatible" and "canonical." Is it a given now that this will be a limited series and not an ongoing?

Well, that interview should quell the fears of all those worried about the co-writing bit. The ideas are Joss'. Allie is basically doing the structural bit, but dialogue... that's Joss. So all's good... issues come out on time, Joss-y dialogue remains intact, the world can continue spinning on its axis... Oh, and who do I blame for my forum award not showing up anymore?

Yeah, I'm extremely glad for the Joss dialogue. Nobody does it better imo. So it sounds like Joss is doing the set-up and the finish, but Scott is providing the structure. So Scott's the gooey center of this comics sandwich. Oh, and who do I blame for my forum award not showing up anymore? Me?

Did anyone notice what I was doing in the background when Scott said how no one at buffyfest hates him? Go back and look again. I think it puts a rather different spin on the situation.

Well, I would've used a GIF of Sean Maher but I don't have one. Do you watch True Blood? I could provide some eye candy from that show in GIF form. Actually, it's a bit too... naked... for SlayAlive.

I've seen vampire/werewolf (there are both on the show, right?) butt from that show in random clips... it is a wee bit too naked for SlayAlive. Sean Maher and Fran Kranz would have totally made my night. Sean Maher shirtless makes me want to take a dip in the Arctic.

Ooooh naughty Xi! I'm looking forward to Spike being "in the thick of things." Sounds like he'll be very central to the plot, so yay!

I'm just glad that "Last Gleaming" is not going to be a long drawn out affair of the exes. Do what you need to do, not what you want to do. Oh... and I'm always rather mischievous.

Not that I'm an enabler or anything, but Em, I hope you stay addicted to GIFs for a good long while! (Felicia Day! <33) Wasn't Brian the one who said that his Spike series would be in continuity with S8? Pretty sure that's where we first heard it. Anyway, I listened to the interview with Scott and am even more pleased and intensely thoughtful about the finale. It really does sound like Scott is just putting things where they need to be so that Joss can put the words in word places. I totally get what he means by how daunting it is to do panel layouts and such. It's like, you've got a whole page, what the hell are you supposed to do with it all?! *head explodes* I'm also intrigued by the idea of concurrent books for S9 over the course of two years. *intrigued face*

The concurrent series format suggests the Scoobies are not going to be together as a team next season. Or they may start out with an introductory miniseries, then split apart for the main body of the season, then come together again for a climactic miniseries at the end.
I wonder if Joss will write any of it at all? Maybe by the time they get to the conclusion he will have a little more free time.
Assuming "The Avengers" doesn't disappoint at the box office (knock wood), I wonder if Joss will use any of his resulting influence to make something Buffy or Firefly related for film or TV? He certainly should have no trouble raising money for that "Wastelanders" webseries with Warren Ellis.
Did I hear that Joss said "Cabin in the Woods" was NOT going to be in 3-D after all? If so that's good news to me.... I don't like 3-D anyway, and there has never been a movie with 3-D added in post-production that didn't suck rotten eggs. ("Clash of the Titans" anyone? "Last Airbender" anyone?) But this probably means MGM has no money at all to release the movie.
