And strange as it may sound, certain species don't actually need sperm for the genetic contribution but rather, as a trigger for their eggs to proceed along the lines of becoming an actual organism, which is technically, a clone of the female itself. It's called parthogenesis. Some lizards and freshwater fish do it.

Willingham wrote quite a bit of inter-species sex in his "Ironwood" comic in the 90's. And "Fables" has Snow White hooked up with the Big Bad Wolf. (Albeit in human form.) Interspecies sex, sure. Though for Illyria it's again OOC for her to find Connor an attractive mate. It's the interspecies breeding that gets me. I mean, do we actually expect to have a Liger (lion + tiger) that's bred for its skills in magic?

I see people are debating over why Illyria chose Connor, correct?
Although I can't speak for everyone, I can understand why... Somewhat. Back in issue 28, Connor slayed three(I think) demons, all of the same type. According to Illyria these were very, very strong and deadly demons. She was impressed with him. Not to mention, Connor told of an army wanting to serve him; I think that fact would appeal to Illyria quite a bit. Illyria says her breeding cycle comes up only every 1,00 years; If she wanted to take this opportunity bad enough, Connor probably seemed like the best choice. Sure, he came from two vampires, but he's more than that. He's an incredible being, with incredible powers, and Illyria obviously knew that.
Not to mention, could you see Illyria mating with Gunn or James? They were the only other two males in the hotel at the time, and neither really appealed to her. Angel and Spike were present, of course, but neither can supply Illyria with what she needs(Unless Angel is having a good day, that is.).
So, as for why she chose Connor, I agree. Now, about her insides, and being able to mate with a human... I'm still iffy about it. But I think it works to some level.

Finally got this issue. There's already been plenty of debate about Illyria's OOC-ness, so I'll just leave that as a given and re-emphasize: Only Human needs to be canon, gods dammit! (Also that someone else should be writing Illyria altogether. If only.)
I think the thing that really bugs me is that Willingham has no taste for subtlety. It's like every relationship from every little episode of Angel was suddenly laid out for us in the midst of this hotel orgy (side-note: Rule 34 applies to comics too, except in comics we mean issue #34. Thanks, Brad and Bill. You guys are real sex lovers even if you don't want to admit it in public!). This doesn't read quite like a comic, more like a retread of essays about the various relationships of the show. Kudos to Williams for having the only loaded statement in the entire book: Gunn's "It's complicated." Ever so much truth to that statement, and for once I actually felt for Eddie's victim as opposed to Eddie himself (who thus far has been fighting less-than-sympathetic people).
...Did I mention Only Human? Just saying.
I didn't miss James this issue, but my shop didn't get in #33 for some weird reason, so I dunno what's up with him, but until he shows up again: out of sight, out of mind. For once, I didn't feel so crowded by all the characters.

I think someone else should be writing the series altogether, not just Illyria And I agree with you on Only Human. Dunno about the canon part, but I do think that it should have factored in with Gunn's and Illyria's characterisations. It would have helped and we could see them grow more. It's a dang shame...

I think it was quite a fun issue, if taken purely for what it is, but altogether it didn't seem to advance the storyline much. I didn't really get why it was thre actually, except for to end the ridiculous Illyria pursuing Connor storyline, or to flesh out the potential for a relationship between Kate and Angel (please no) which I think was hinted at before.

I have never seen two people with less romantic chemistry than Angel and Kate had on the TV show. This whole storyline seems to just be serving the age-old "two people of the opposite sex can't work together without eventually ending up in bed" cliche that's been pretty much universal.
I mean, what's the last TV show where a man and a woman of similar age worked together as regular partners without having romantic feelings for each other? I think it was "The Avengers" in the 60's.

^^^ So true, it must stop. I know I'm in a minority but I see Cordy and Angel as serving that purpose too.

With the whole 'man and woman working together gotta have sex' thing A/C's talking about and BE saying that Angel and Cordy were like that and I'm saying that while they did, it was an illusion, so I'm asking if that counts

AH just the Season Four sex, then. I thought you were implying that Angel & Cordelia's only actual canonical hook-up in "You're Welcome" was just an illusion.

I just picked up the last TPB, one of the best in sometime and I really like were the story is going. I might have to pick a few issues here and there now. But what I would like to see cast wise is : Main Cast: Angel Connor Illyria Laura Kay Weathermill Charles Gunn
Write-out Spike- (own series) Kate Lockley- (leave town) Desdemona- (Kill off) Betta George- (guest spots)
Make badass Villains already. Jamaerah Eddie Hope
