Hmm i dunno for it would be pretty much obnoxious just to erase the work of several years just for the sake of a motion picture, it would be unfair to those who have worked on the comic books and for the fans as well .
Also Mikey who says that we definitely wont see Tara return in the comics?

Please not another resurrection. Warren was just the last stroke.
I'd be on board for a movie whether Joss had to erase the comics for it or not, as I prefer that medium to the comics medium. Still think the chances of it happening are next to zero, though.

Why does everyone bring up Warren? His death was a mystical death, like Buffy's, meaning he could be brought back to life. He didn't die like Tara by a gun, he died because of magics. He could be brought back because of that and still, who is to say that is really Warren? Amy turned Willow into Warren, who is to say she couldn't give someone else his form or conjure up something that looks like him?
Anyway they have done a great job with the comic so I wouldn't leave it. I doubt they will bring Tara or Cordelia or Anya back. That storyline(resurrection)was done with Buffy and they are all about the new ideas, not bringing back old ones.

I wouldn't jump 'ship if Joss erased Season 8, but I would be pretty pissed. It would not be too hard to build a movie into the existing canon. He could set a movie *after* Season 8 and 9, if he wants. Would it spoil the story? Sure. Do people still buy the "Serenity" comics even though they know that they eventually must set things up for the movie? Yes.
Bringing back Tara... do people really still talk about this? Seriously, Warren was more believable. As much of an eye-roller as it was, it still wasn't really tough to phlebotenize. It would be far more believable to bring back Cordy, with the whole mystical coma deal going for her.
Would people be sated by a Tara appearance, like in a dream, flashback, time travel story, or something? Or would that just encourage more vocal demand for her to be brought back? Willow's spoken for anyway.

I would hope that the comic can exist along with whatever film endeavor they go for.

Why would they drop the comic? Joss might not be able to come back and work on it but there is no real reason for them to end the comics all of a sudden if a movie comes into fruition. They probably won't be linked, its not like we will see Twilight all of a sudden in the movie and she is sleeping with Satsu. They should be two different stories to keep it fresh.
All Joss said was he will not involve any storyline from the COmic so the people who don't read it won't be confused at the movie.
As for Tara she is done and gone, the storyline is over with. It is fine if she is in a dream or whatever but if she is brought back in any way THEN I might drop the comic. I loved their relationship but its done with now.

All Joss said was he will not involve any storyline from the COmic so the people who don't read it won't be confused at the movie. Actual quote: Joss Whedon: And it would be lovely to make it all tie in but if I had to shoot down everything I'm doing in comics because we were doing a project, a film with these actual people, I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep. As for Willow/Tara, honestly, Joss has shot himself in the foot with that, calling Tara Willow's "one true love" and stuff. Tough luck selling another 'ship to the Willow fans after that, and tough luck bringing her back after those well-established rules in Forever and Seeing Red.

Why wouldn't Willow already know and believe that Tara is "still there"? And, again, their connection, if by which you mean Willow longing for her, is functionally at an end. Willow's in love with Kennedy, ya'll. Wake up and smell 8.10

Like she dropped Tara when Oz came back, naturally. We all "knew that", too.
Don't 'ship your way past the text.

I don't know how anyone could dispute Willow's sincerity when she says she can't do that again "to the woman she loves". But like I said earlier, tough luck selling Willow/Kennedy to the Willow/Tara fans, after Joss's big statements about the latter pair.

I love the comics. But I would set all my copies on fire for the sake of a Buffy movie! I'd probably set myself on fire. That would be unbelieveably awesome. Beyond awesome. The greatest thing to happen to cinema ever. The greatest thing to happen to anyone, anywhere, at any point in the history of the earth ever. If they were somehow not canon anymore it wouldn't bother me much at all. They are great stories on their own. Anyways, a Buffy movie? Probably never gonna happen.

Eh. I just don't hate Willow enough to want her to wait around for her dead putative soulmate to continue to not come back to life. *Shrug*.
She is in love with Kennedy, and very emotionally demonstrated that in a scene that Joss said made himself cry.

I don't honestly think I would be happy if they scrapped the canon of the comics. It really does seem like a lot of work and planning being chucked out the window. Not to say I wouldn't like the movie because I would love to see it on screen again, only if it had the original cast. They're are certain things too that would make me not want to see the movie. Honestly, if they brought Tara back it'd loose my respect, but I feel that way about the comics too though.
All in all I would have to say nay to the scrapping the comics canon.

Errr, wake up and smell the fact 70% of the scene is about how much it hurts that she's lost Tara! LOL. You cant tell a member he can't treat an opinion as a fact then go and do the same thing yourselfs. Joss;s big statement about willow/kennedy? - what you mean the countless times he's said 'well we couldn't bring tara back so we just thought we'd just get someone really hot'. It was one panel in a comic, it doesn't suddenly mean that willow would give up tara for kennedy It certainly doesn't prove anything.

I want a Buffy movie or a few SO MUCH! I would jump ship after hearing the announcement of a movie. Also, Tara was a fantastic character and her story was beautiful, and bringing her back would ruin it in my opinion. Tara's gone and people need to get over it. The only I'd come round to the idea would probably be if Tara's entrance topped her entire story on the show. And it would have to be on screen as well because the comics just don't have the same emotional effect. And there would have to be a point to it and she wasn't just brought back to be brought back like Warren was. And there would have to be a valid explanation and none of this retcon rubbish. Willow's happy now, just let her and Kennedy be.

Except for how it totally wasn't about that.
It was about the guilt Willow feels for letting her friendship and loyalty to Buffy get in between her and the woman she's in love with. And that *that's* what she won't do again to the woman she loves. The woman she loves now being Kennedy.

If Tara came back, Willow would drop Kennedy like a sack of bricks...and you know it. Hehe I agree completely. In fact if Tara did return, I'd imagine Kennedy might just get a "break up answering machine message" XD. But as for the original question, I think in the long run I would be just fine with the comics losing their canonicity. I would love if a movie could work around them and keep them canon, but anything new in the Buffyverse gets me so excited, so I am just fine with a movie. I would still buy the comics because I just love reading them, the fact that they are canon just makes them more special. So keep the comics going, bring on a movie, either way, I am just happy to have more Buffy.
