Hey guys. This is weird for me since I am usually the one to support others, etc, but I need help. My sister in law (basically, my sister) is pregnant. She has some complications in the beginning, but all has been well until today. She went into the hospital b/c her water started to break. She is not in labor, though. Her blood pressure is so high she could have a stroke at any moment. She is in terrible danger, as is the baby. She isn't due for another 40 days. They are thinking of inducing labor within 24 hours if she doesn't have her naturally. (Yes, a her! the first girl in this generation. My hubby and I haven't started yet and hubby's brother had 2 boys). She is a single mom and the father is a jack a**. I mean, a really mean, hurtful, immature jerk. On top of all this, I can;t even go to the hospital, because I now have to run the baby shower....Which is TODAY! Her mom wants to keep it going, though she's not even going to be there. She will be at the hospital with my sister. My husband has a HUGE family and I have been with him since high school, yet I still only know about 4 people. 3 of which will not be there: sister, mother-in-law, other sister-in-law. So I can't go to the hospital and be with her, my husband had to work and I have to go run a shower that I have helped with, but have not been making big decisions about, with the jerk's mother and his family (whom I have never met) with people from my family there too (again, I have never met). All the while, just wanted to be at the hospital. And the mother to be isn't going to be at the shower! How weird is this going to be??? So anyways....any thoughts/prayers/chanting, etc that you do, that you could fit in for my sister and the baby would be more than appreciated. Thanks for reading....I had to get all this out to someone.....

Wow. Don't stress too much. It's a LOT you have going on there, but stressing too much will make it worse. Trust me. Let us know what happens. You and you're sister-in-law are in our thoughts. -Tim

definitely, try not to think about what could happen and just deal with what actually happens. The most important thing is to support your sister-in-law. While we don't know each other personally, I really hope everything works out for your family. Keep us posted.

Thanks guys. It really helps! You think that's a lot. I only posted the highlights......I'm exhausted!!! Update: Her blood pressure is lowered. Which means she is less likely for a stroke. She did get up and walk around a bit. At 7 am central time they are doing the test to see if she will be induced. It is a most likely situation. So tomorrow I may be a little scarce. Today's shower went off without a hitch and I got many many compliments and thanks for all my hard work (which is actually rare from this side of the family, so that was nice). Again, thanks for keeping us in your thoughts......i really need to pass out now. but I am on call. I am the beginning of the chain o' calling......sleepy time.....

Hey SpikeLuv. I know we have had our differences and have not gotten along in the past but I really like to think of it as just that....the past. I sincerely hope that everything goes OK and that there is a happy ending for everyone in this situation!
I would also like to say that you should not loose hope no matter what happens. My brother (buffyfantwo) and I are identical twins and we were born 50 days early (not unusual with twins) and we are both totally fine. We were in the hospital for a few months post birth and we both have some breathing problems because of being born with undeveloped lungs but really, we are both 100% fine, healthy people. I hope my past experiences and success can bring you comfort and know that the future will bring brighter things, on top of other brighter things!
Peace, luck, and blessings!
-Jon

thanks jon. I too look at the drama as in the past...i mean, you made me banners and everything They checked and it seems the baby's lungs are developed! YAY! but she is starting to look like she might have an infection and since her water is leaking, the infection is there, right by the baby. I have to shower and grab her slippers (she lives next door) and they are inducing her today!!! My first niece. so thoughts today would be appreciated again! Thanks a lot guys. it helps just to feel like I have people to talk to, ya know? I can't really address these concerns with my family...they are all worried. I don't want to add more pressure, but I hade to get some off of me, too! So thank you!

You'll have to post a pic of the baby once she's born!

Tonight at about 8 pm, Kennedy Lynn was born! 5 lbs 5 oz and 19" long. Which is fantastic, especially for a premy! So thank you all for your thoughts!! My sis is great. Labor was long, but once they got to the pushing part, it was only 15 minutes! Everyone is safe! Kennedy is quiet, but her lungs were fully developed, etc. She will stay in special care for a little while, probably about a week, if all goes well. Then she gets to come live next door!!!
Again, THANK YOU!
Pics will come soon!

I just read this thread - and send you my warmest thoughts and wishes. I am so glad for you that it all worked out. A premie over 5 lbs is fantastic. My son was a premie too - 4 lbs 6 oz when he was born, incubator, etc. He is fine - all growed up. Like BuffyFanOne and brother - he also had a tendency breathing problems - asthma and bronchitus - but they adapt. Looking forward to pictures. Oh - and it is normal for them to lose weight post-birth so don't worry. They gain it back pretty quickly.

My niece was born 7lb 3oz and she was 6lb 9oz when she went home. Now, at 7 months, she is in the 98th percentile for her age!

She has lost. Not sure exactly how much, but she wouldn't eat and when she did, it came right back up. Yesterday when I was there was the first time she actually fed. and she burped, but didn't throw up! So yay!! My sis is hoping to bring her home tomorrow if they let her.

Is your sister breast feeding? Only asking cause it is the healthiest milk for a baby - and expecially a preemie.

Glad everything went okay! My cousin Nathan was born 3 months early and only weighed 1 pound 5 oz. He was the size of a barbie doll and could fit in a hand.
