Whereas Buffy was 16 when she and Angel got together. I can only take that so seriously. When I was 16,17 god only 18...I fell in love....many times...too many to really take seriously. Agreed. The last great Buffy/Angel-relationship episode that never happened is the one where they got back together and realized they'd changed too much and werent in love anymore. Would have had that ring of truth for those of us who thought we were "destined" for someone in high school and having it not work out. The thing I loved about the show was that it was reality taking place through fantasy elements. The Buffy/Angel relationship is pretty much pure fantasy though (except season 2), which is why I really don't like it.

I have to say neither.
Buffy/Angel seemed to be an attempt at this fairy tale romance, yet all I really felt was an older man attempting to run from aging by dating a younger girl and younger girl feeling special because this older, mysterious man is interested in her.I thought that it worked better on the show than trying to see it an an epic relationship.I'm not saying that there weren't moments where the relationship shined, but mostly in S3 when they were realizing that they couldn't be together.
With Buffy/Spike,the first time I watched S6 I firmly was entrenched in the idea that it was a physical and emotional abuse by SpikeSince re-watching S6 a few more times,I saw moments where you could see the using dynamic. However,it still comes off strongly as an abusive relationship.
Angel and Spike were Buffy's polar opposites. Angel=love, can't have sex, causes him to lose his soul Spike=lust, alot of sex, causes him to get a soul

I never fell in love as a teenager, so I can't really say much about that aspect of it. Buffy only did once, and that was with Angel. I know a lot of high school relationships are fleeting. But I've also met people who have been together and in love since they were 16 and they've been happily married for over 20 years. So I try and look beyond age to what their relationship was. Buffy and Angel both loved each other and knew it and accepted it and wanted it. It was just safer for them to be apart. Buffy and Spike was abusive and mostly they just used each other, even in Season 7. For me it will always be Angel.

Angel! He had that mysterious role in season 1 of Buffy, and he got better over the course of the Buffyverse.

Is that what Spuffy fans cling to? A contextual explanation to an actor from Joss? The following line had Spike say that he knew she didn't, and Buffy didn't exactly argue. Oh, I don't think that quote alone proves that Buffy loved him; it just proves that the scene is not necessarily as cut-and-dried as you're making it out to be. Jane Espenson told a fan at a UK convention that Joss hadn't clarified whether Buffy meant the "I love you" or not even to his writers. I'm pretty sure the ambiguity is meant to serve as the Spike/Buffy fans' "hook" so far, just as the "forbidden love" aspect serves as the Angel/Buffy fans' "hook". (Spike's "No you don't, but thanks for saying it", also not necessarily that straightforward, by the way. In the end of "Chosen", when Spike tells Buffy "No, you don't", somebody asked who was right. [Jane Espenson] said she believed that Buffy did love Spike, but that it still hurts her because she doesn't like to think that Spike's self-esteem is so low at that point. Somebody suggested that maybe Spike knew Buffy loved him, but said it to "let her off the hook" so she could leave. And she thought that was fascinating and said she'd have to think about it more - she'd never thought about it from that angle. -- Fan Report, Las Vegas Writer Con, 2004)

I picked Angel because I don't like Spike's accent. Plus come on, Buffy never loved Spike. No matter how har she tried in Season 7.

C'mon, that's one of the most-debated subjects in the fandom. There's obviously no "right" or "wrong" answer to it, at least not yet (not ever, I expect -- it's what we "want", but not what we "need", you know).

Just submitting my vote. And I happen to not like Spike so much actually. Hence my vote going to Angel.

Sure thing. I didn't address your dislike of Spike -- which is a matter of taste, after all -- just your other point.

The Buffy never loved Spike part? Ok. I'm just a little late on the whole debate. I'm only a Wanna blessed-be here! So I'm only giving a look at all the polls and giving my opinion on the things I have something (most of the time not that) interesting to say about!

Yeah, no prob. Wasn't even referring to the debate in this thread, just in the fandom as a whole.

Yeah, no prob. Wasn't even referring to the debate in this thread, just in the fandom as a whole. I'm not a big "worshipper" anyway. I don't worship any couple in the show. I'm limiting myself to being a huge fan of the show. That's enough fandom to take for me!

Good for you. Obsessive 'shipping tends to ruin one's enjoyment of the show, anyway. I'm glad I can still enjoy episodes like I Only Have Eyes for You or Amends or I Will Remember You, despite being a Spike/Buffy fan, but I know others who can't (and I feel sorry for them).

Wow that's pretty sad indeed. I wasn't even aware this kind of people existed! There's not a single episode that I wouldn't enjoy because of one character or one couple. Plus I tend to think that the show is made out of all these little stories. Like Angel or not, same with Spike, they still remain big parts of the series and did a lot for Buffy's overall development.

Um Mathieu not to be rude, but if you don't "worship" any couples as you said or don't like bangel or spuffy than why did you come to this thread at all?

Um Mathieu not to be rude, but if you don't "worship" any couples as you said or don't like bangel or spuffy than why did you come to this thread at all? Good question... because I felt like answering some random poll. I don't think you necessarily have to worship either bangel or spuffy to answer the question. My opinion is that Buffy never really loved Spike. Hence my answer. But I won't argue over it for days. Not offended by your comment by the way ;-). I'll admit I like to answer random polls.

Gotta go with Angel. I love Spike, but I don't so much love he and Buffy together, before S7 anyway.
