With or without a soul?
Angel & Buffy: I still want to cry when i think about them togheter. And drool. And cry for them.
Angelus & Buffy: Do I need to say AAAAHHHH!!
Soulless Spike& Buffy: brrrr
Soulfull Spike & Buffy: The walked on their toes around each other, which was sweet. but...
A lot of people compare Angel with a soul with Spike without a soul, which I think we should consider. Perhaps Spike with a soul would have been best for Buffy. We'll probably never know.

Well, that's Joss for you. I love all my 'ships for what they could have been more than for what they were/what Joss let them be. (Spike/Buffy, Wesley/Illyria, Angel/Darla...)
I posted most of my reasons for favouring Spike/Buffy in the previous page, but I should add that I'm not big on "perfect romances with obstacles thrown in", as Marti Noxon implied about Angel/Buffy. (And as Jane Espenson flat-out stated about Angel/Buffy, in her SC interview.)

I picked Angel because I don't like Spike's accent. Plus come on, Buffy never loved Spike. No matter how har she tried in Season 7. Oi Oi Oi! Nothing wrong with Spikes accent dude, i have a very similar one BUT, i chose Angel. I liked Spike when he was evil, but with Buffy? MEH! Buffy and Angel loved eachother, their love was so strong, it survived Buffy killing him! They still loved eachother even after they were seperated. Spike was simply a tool that Buffy used to "Scratch her Itch". Come on, out of the entire Season 6-7, how many times were they actually "tender" with eachother, 2-3 MAX. Buffy and Angel was all about tenderness. PLUS, although Buffy/Angel were only physical once, and Buffy/Spike a hell of a lot more. Buffy and Angel made LOVE, so pure, that it destroyed Angels curse. Buffy and Spike, sorry to be british- they shagged. Simple as. Nothing loving about it, it was just shagging Infact, he got increasingly annoying to me Angel Rules Wayne

Angel all the way. I guess I really liked the seasons where Angel and Buffy's relationship started and blossomed. That was really corny, wasn't it? Anyway, I couldn't get past the Billy Idol likeness thing with Spike.

Extended exposure to this thread is not good for my health. ETA: Actually, I'll let someone else comment for me. Joss Whedon: [What we had in mind for Season 7 was] to explore the idea of the Slayer fully and to see a very grown-up and romantic and confusing relationship that isn't about power, but actually genuinely beautiful between two people in the form of Buffy and Spike.Joss Whedon: I wanted to make definite statements about both relationships but I had to do it in the same episode. It was weird. I had a lot of structural juggling to do to figure out how to make sense of the two most important men in Buffy's life showing up at once.

Don't know who to go with. I love them both (platonically of course). At times I like Angel more, but other times I like Spike more. They're both very interesting and enjoyable characters. Since I like them both too much, it'll be hard for me to vote, but I'll go with Spike on this one, but it's nothing against Angel

I went with Spike just because he has a lot more attitude and is more interesting to watch onscreen as a result. But on the other hand, he is a soulless, neutered killer when she shacks up with him, which can't be good...

I chose Spike, but only because there wasn't a 'neither' option and Angel belonged with Cordelia.

Angel (I only like Season 2 evil Spike and season 4 Spike when he was trying to kill Buffy.) Yes, Angel/Cordy forever!!!

Spike. I feel like Buffy and Angel's relationship can be summed up in one scene. In the Zeppo, when Xander walks in on them to ask for help. It was ridiculous, and soap operatic, and its intense and you love it while you're in context, but if you take a step back, it just seems silly.
And there are some things that Spike does that I just can't picture Angel doing. Spike's speech to Buffy in Touched, or when he tries to stop her from turning herself in in Dead Things. I know Angel loves Buffy, but I just don't think of him as a supporting character. He always seems very separate somehow. Yeah, he would always help Buffy fight demons, and he would always be intensely in love with her if he had stayed, but I just don't think he understands the more human problems well enough to help her through them.
It's harder for me to explain why I like Spike, even though I like Spike more than I dislike Angel. Plus, I haven't seen any of the later seasons in ages and my memory is a bit foggy. I feel like Spike doesn't take life too seriously, which would be easy since he's dead. That's really a good quality to rub off on Buffy. She's faced with apocalypse after apocalypse, so she understandably has a dark mentality. And while she really just uses Spike to scratch an itch, if that's what gets her through the night.. then okay. She needs him, and he gives her more than just sex.
And I'm having no luck explaining my thoughts.. oh well.

I like Buffy/Angel, but I think they work better as doomed soulmates than an actual couple. Buffy and Angel were boring together, especially in S3 at which point the relationship had pretty much run it's course. Buffy/Spike were far more entertaining and their relationship is more layered and mature.

Angel. I do like Spike at times, but not with Buffy. Buffy/Angel was sweet, even if I am more of an Angel/Cordy person. I guess I want Buffy to be alone then...

Buffy/Angel all the way. The promise of always and forever always existed with them. Buffy and Spike finally came to trust each other after the disastrous and disturbing season 6 depression-a-thon, but for Buffy it was still "does it have to mean something", while with Angel it was still "I just wanna bask"....that spoke volumes to me.
Plus, I agree with Joss that they transcend everything and I believe Buffy when she said she loves/d Angel more than she ever would anything in this life. I also believe that though she came to love Spike it wasn't the love he sought, so his "no you don't but thanks for saying it" also rang very true.
