I'm sure we'll see how this plays out before the season is over.
And I can't wait. This is why I love this show: we can debate all we want, nothing is better than the pleasure to find out what happen, even (and especially) when it's what we tought.

That said, I would like to come back to the real goal of this thread Xander/Dawn. Anyone more interested in seeing how everyone's going to react than in the relationship itself? I for one am definitely interested in finding out what others' reactions will be. Can't wait!

Sounds like something I missed. Guess this is what happens when you don't check the Buffy thread. I only knew about the Dander kiss from buffyfan's banner. Well, I'll read all about it when I get my issue next week

I wonder what Willow is going to think of that. She was always close to both Xander and Dawn, but she is isolated from both of them in Season 8. I wonder how she will react to the fact she hasn't seen it coming. After all, she was ashamed of admitting she knew nothing about Spike and Buffy in Season 6.

^ odds are Willow hasn't seen it coming b/c she has been too wrapped up in her own stuff, but I think this holds true for everyone in the group. I don't think anybody saw it coming b/c it is the last thing they would expect (and the last thing most of us expected as fans!). Unless of course everyone has been more observant than we realize, but I seriously doubt it...Buffy seemed to have a pretty shocked (hurt?) look on her face, and I am imagining the others will be pretty shocked as well. I am interested to see everyone's reaction but Buffy's most of all. We all know that Buffy has never liked Dawn to receive more attention than her , and it's clear that Buffy has some level of feeling for Xander, but what that means I don't know. Buffy may not have feelings for Xander, but may not want Dawn to have him either. Either way, it's gotta be a little weird when your best bud and your sis hook up. That being said, I am (obviously) in support of the relationship. I think Dawn and Xander deserve a chance to see where things can go.

Before it seemed like gay relationships were the hot topics covered in various forms of media, but now the whole "one person is much older than the other" relationships are starting to be on the rise. I thought Xander and Buffy were planned to be together, but why would she want him now that he's fooling around with her younger sister? I still think Buffy and Angel are perfect for each other just because they both know all to well what its like to feel isolated and alone. The only difference between them is that Buffy is mortal and she has to feel all the painful emotions that come with feeling alone.

Well, in the Buffy verse, vampire feels pain too. Especially emotional pain. Angel is a living proof of that! Even a non-ensouled vampire like Spike could feel emotional pain.
. I agree Willow hasn't seen it coming, but knowing Willow, I think she'll feel as if she SHOULD have seen it coming. The same way she tought she SHOULD have seen Buffy/Spike coming. I'm interested to see if she'll be disgusted, shocked, hurt or just try to be the "let's understand, not blame" person she always is in those cases.
I'm also interested to see who's gonna spill the beans. Will Buffy try to talk to someone? If yes, who? Or maybe Andrew will reveal everything? Maybe it will even be Twilight who will reveal the relationship, depending on who he is.
Or maybe nobody will know outside of Buffy, Andrew, Xander or Dawn. I hope not: the reveal of a relationship is often the funniest part.
As for fans, well, re-reading the comics now... my god was it obvious from day one there was something between those two...

I have been struggling with this idea of Xander and Dawn since I read that last shocking page of #28. I think my main problem is that Dawn has come to think of Xander as a big brother type figure, and Xand sees Dawn as a younger sister figure. To me, this could easily lead to a romantic attraction, and I can see the validity of that, but I don't see it fitting their characters. I dunno, maybe Dawn's old crush on Xander came back, and they'll just make out a lot or something, I think I'd be fine with that as a fan of Xander, because the boy deserves some play. But I don't see Xand and Dawn as a long term item. I do think that they have a very strong bond, because they are the two non-super Scoobies, as many have pointed out. That little pep talk that Xand gave Dawn in "Potential": XANDER: They'll never know how tough it is, Dawnie, to be the one who isn't chosen. To live so near to the spotlight and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realizes because nobody's watching me. I saw you last night. I see you working here today. You're not special. You're extraordinary. (stands, kisses her forehead, starts to walk out of the room) While this is one of the most touching dialogues EVER--in my opinion--it feels like a mentor speaking to an ingenue, and to me it sums up the Dawn/Xander relationship arc at the core. Perhaps they will have a new relationship arc, but in the end I think they will just be friends and near to sibling relationship. Xander has some serious love for the Summers women, but I don't think he still loves Buffy, or Dawn, in that special romantic way. True, he will always harbor a little obsession with Buffy (who wouldn't!! We all obviously do! ), but I think at this point he knows it will never happen. I, as a big Xander fan, would love to see him with someone new, and I was VERY upset when they killed Renee! She seemed to be a great match for the Xand-man, and she was new so we didn't have all that messy past-relationship mumbo jumbo to deal with. What I mean by this is that we fans tend to pick at ships based on past arcs. It's hard to let go of a really fun plot that we loved at the time in order to accept a new plot that doesn't seem to 'fit' with the old, loved plot. The truth is that it would be easiest to give Xander someone new, which is why I think Joss doesn't wanna do that He likes a challenge. So he's gonna put Xander and Dawn together to see if he can wiggle his way out of a plot pickle that he made for himself. Though I don't agree with it, this is also why I love Joss. So I'm going to stay tuned for how this new pairing turns out. In other news: Yay to SUPER great resemblance for Dawn/Michelle in these latest issues! -Jen

It's not the first time Joss was told he could not do somthing and his answer was "Yeah? Just watch me! Jeanty admitted he said to Joss "you can't do that" when Joss told him about Satsu/Buffy, and Joss did it anyway -- and it worked out. I'm sure some people told him he could not create a young sister for Buffy out of thin air or that he could not resurrect Buffy again. But he did. So, yeah, I trust him when he gives himself a challenge.

So do Xander and Dawn even realize that Buffy saw them? They were pretty distracted.
I still suspect Willow and Kennedy already knew... that they'd barged in on X & D in a similar position back in #26, and it was that (and not Buffy/Satsu) that they were referring to outside Buffy's door. (Willow: "Maybe we should knock first." Xander: "Knocking is good." Dawn: "Yes, it is.")

Well, to be fair, I think Angel also has his share of knowing what it's like to feel alone. I still suspect Willow and Kennedy already knew... that they'd barged in on X & D in a similar position back in #26, and it was that (and not Buffy/Satsu) that they were referring to outside Buffy's door. (Willow: "Maybe we should knock first." Xander: "Knocking is good." Dawn: "Yes, it is.") Hmm, I just assumed this was a reference to Wolves at the Gate, but you could be right.

As far as we know: no. But we don,t know what happened between the moment Andrew turned the camera of and the moment we see all of them together so maybe Buffy, Xander and Dawn had a talk. It remains to be seen.
That's an interesting read on it. It is totally possible. H
owever, if that's the case, why would Willow spoke in such a way as to drive Buffy into Xander arms in #28? Or maybe Willow, assuming that, as always, she was the last one to know about the relationship, tought that Buffy knew for Xander/Dawn and her "he's a nice guy" comment was intended to help Buffy approve of her sister relationship.

Oh god ... someone's gonna die aren't they. I can just see it happening. Dawn and Xander together, and happy, Buffy angry at them both, one of them dies, buffy sad -- sighs.....

Maybe Dawn dies and it leads to the end of magic. Maybe Xander is the betrayer, unintentional, but somehow betrays Buffy. Or...idk

I don,t think someone inevitably has to die. Joss loves to inflict pain on hiss characters, that's true. But is dead the only way to cause pain? For Buffy, seeing the her sister and the man she maybe have feelings for together and knowing that she must either accept taht fact or break her sister's hearth is a lot of pain. Probably as mcuh as if one of them died.

She had an entire existence dumped into her cute little cranium, just like everybody else. And technically, the Key is ancient. It's just the current form that's quite recent.
