Since we have threads for the Wii and the XBOX 360 somewhere around here, I thought I'd throw this up so we can see who has a PS3.

I do have one... but I don't think I've set up the network thingamajig yet... yeah, I'm horrible at things like that.
I currently own Assassin's Creed and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. That's pretty much it. Well, I have the Orange Box, but that's for my boyfriend... so I essentially own two titles.
Waiting anxiously for the new Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia titles out later this year, though.
As of right now, as blasphemous as this may sound... the PS3 is kinda serving as a DVD player more than a gaming console. *ducks rotten fruit*

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is an awesome game! I just recently borrowed it from a friend and had a blast with it. I'm excited for the new Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia as well. I'm also looking forward to Silent Hill: Homecoming, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, LittleBigPlanet, Rock Band 2, and Fallout 3. Big year for the PS3!

And the network stuff isn't too difficult to set up, the system walks you through it pretty quickly.

I really enjoyed Uncharted too, but there were certain things that were lacking for me. For one, I'm a huge fan of platforming/adventure games, ala Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia. Puzzle-solving and exploring are wonderful time wasters.
So, I was slightly offended by how easy most of the platforming in Uncharted was. Also, the control system wasn't as tight as I'd have liked, and there were parts where I remember hating the controls and wanting to destroy my controller. Also, the crazy mish-mash of FPS + platforming + survival horror didn't quite to it for me. Ultimately what saved it was the dynamic storytelling aspect of the entire thing.
There are plenty of Tomb Raider: Underworld spoilers out there right now, including trailers, gameplay exclusives, etc. Thailand's shaping up to look very "Uncharted-ish" right now, from what I've seen.

I'm actually not sure about the pricing, but they are releasing (or it's been released... I'm not sure) a new 80gB version, which I think will have backwards compatibility, so you may wanna look into that before purchasing.
I have the 40 gig model, and while it does play most (if not all) PS1 games, it doesn't read PS2 ones. Which is a bummer, since I still have all my Prince of Persias, and a couple of other fun little games for the PS2.

Yeah I'd suggest waiting for the new 80GB model to his retail.

I bought the Metal Gear Solid 4 80GB PS3 that was released in June, which also had like 85% Backwards compatibility with PS2 games. If BC is important to you, I'd suggest waiting.

I believe the new 80GB version will be $400 as well.

How do you like the PS3 so far Wyndam? I read a lot of bad reviews about it.

I don't know about Wyndam, but I've actually heard quite the opposite about the PS3; that it's a premium piece of gaming equipment, and if you have the cash to throw down for it, it's worth it. Plus, since Blu-ray pretty much beat the HD-DVD format, it is handy if you like movies in HD.
I've only had mine for a short time now, so I don't know how it'll fare in the long-run, but my boyfriend and I shared an Xbox360, and it did have the habit of crashing/jamming/freezing/etc at the most inopportune times. Added to that, it recently rewarded us with the red ring of doom, so that had to be sent in to be fixed... thankfully at no cost. But still... hassle much.
The only thing I like about the Xbox360 more is the controller... it's just more sturdy feeling. But the PS3 controllers come with a built-in battery that can be recharged, so in the long-run, much better for the environment. Unless you use rechargeable batteries for the Xbox360 (which we did). Then it's pretty much equal.

But if you're not much of a gamer (unless it's Buffy related), I don't know why you'd want to get one as there are no Buffy games announced for the system as of now.

Yeah the PS3 got a bad wrap when it was first released because it was expensive and didn't have many solid games. That has all changed now, and 2008 has been a great year for the PS3. With first party titles like Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Resistance, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Fallout 3, etc., which are all solid (or should be solid, the last 2 aren't out yet). The PS3 is really starting to turn around, and I've had an absolute blast with it so far.

Well technically I don't own one, but my boyfriend who I live with recently bought the 80GB PS3. I think it's fantastic. I've already become addicted to Portal and Burn Out Paradise while he is constantly playing Mercenaries. It's also a Blue Ray player. Our DVDs look so good when played with the system.

If you've got 500 dollars to spare I'd recomend getting it.

I'm dying to find out what happens in MGS4. Problem is, I really don't play video games, and would completely cease to use a PS3 afterwards.

...Though the Blu-Ray player would be nice.
