I wonder if we could possibly get a spoiler-button for naughty comments? For example, I mentioned a sex toy in a post and it got deleted. Since I was contributing to the discussion of the thread (Willow & Saga Vasuki) I thought that was too bad, although I understand that younger readers should be shielded from sex. So I wonder if we could write about sex if we had a sex-spoller function, like that button we have now. Like this one. And as seen in the Danner cult & The Harem thread, a violence button might be well needed, since I myself would have found it more disturbing to read about brain-splatter all over the walls than about sex, if I was a young user. PS. Sex-buttons shouldn't be used in the slayer stadium threads, to make sure that everyone can play.

I dont, It is a good idea but its just not needed, the "young people" could just click the button and see it for themselves, theres way to many rules
and there was no brain splatter on the walls in the danner cult ! I cleaned it up

Well... the basic rule is keep things PG. So if you can't keep to it, you're the one breaking the rules, and should be banned then. I'm not saying I want you banned... you're fun to have around. I'm speaking hypothetically. The spoiler button will accomplish nothing. All you have to do is click the darn thing, and all the R-rated goodies fall out anyway.

Yes, but techincally, it wouldn't be my fault. And if we change the rules, my writing about sex with the spoiler button wouldn't break the rules. But yes, I understand. I don't want to give kids nightmares. People should be able to feel safe and chaste here if they want to. It's just so frustrating that I can't bring up self-pleasing to add to a discussion, even if I write a warning before the sexiness or use a sex-spoiler button. If kids want to read about sex, they'll do it on another site if they can't do it here. True, a spoiler button would only help those that don't want sex. The other kids will read. I know what I would do if it was my forum, but it's not mine, so I'm just leaving a suggestion. PS. Thanks for saying that I'm fun to have around.

I think this would be a good idea. I was actually impressed when the spoiler button was introduced, and a 'sexual content' button would help protect younger users from the information. (Which... has always confused me, because doesn't Buffy have a good deal of sex in it? I'd assume that users are familiar/comfortable with such things.) A violence one would work just as well. (Though I never condoned violence in the cult. )

Well... the basic rule is keep things PG. PG? I thought this forum was PG13? Fine, PG-13. I wasn't being very specific... but sure, let's just say that we allow blurry nudity. Danner: Your parents may be okay with sexual elements, but not all parents are. Especially if they go into full graphic detail, which is what this whole thing is about anyway. As long as things fall under the PG-13 rating (being specific here), which is what BtVS counted as, then all is fair game. There is no simple way to implement the spoiler tag and have it be respected, so rather than layers and layers of protocol, just respect the rules.

Sorry Wexina, I hope I didn't come off sounding like a douche-bag. lol... no, you didn't. It was my bad for not being clear... I forgot that there's an arbitrary line that divides PG and PG-13. Hence the smiley in my response.

What about the possibility of having a board for over 18's?? Like the Mod board??
Could that work???

I don't think it's needed. The members should know better on what is acceptable and what isn't. Plus anything that would need a sex spoiler button is unacceptable.

But that's just it, I want to be alowed to talk about sex in a way that we aren't now, and in a perfect world were minors wouldn't press the sex-button, I could be graphic. I know that there are forums for that kind of talk, and this is suppose to be a Buffy-forum, but when you can't talk about sex in a way that contributes to the discussion, that blows. And not in the sexy way.

I agree with Skytteflickan88; I'd like to be able to discuss sex when it contributes to the discussion. Characters have sex in the comic and I think it's weird and naive to pretend it doesn't happen for the sake of the kiddies. It is the responsibility of the parents to monitor what their children access and if they allow them to read the Buffy comic or watch the television show they've exposed them to sex already and decided they are mature enough.
You can go anywhere to read comments on about the comic but it's hard to find places that have real thought-probing discussions. I didn't read the inappropriately deemed posts that prompted this thread because by the time I sorted through all the pages of that topic they were already deleted; and I was bummed because it looked like something that might have prompted debate or at least thought.
I've heard some people say that the reason they do not come to slayAlive is because it's too immature, and rules like this seem catered to keep it that way. Which is fine if that's what the staff here wants, but I think it might drive away the some of the more 'mature' members if they find themselves constantly having to bite their tongue.

There's never been a prohibition of discussing the sexual elements of the Buffyverse regarding the storyline. But a line should be drawn when it starts to get too graphic.
It's simply not supportable on this forum and while I understand the desire to discuss such things openly among *adults*, the site is required to be kept PG-13 by our server.
If something needs a "sexual" spoiler button, it's breaking the content rules enforced by our server. If we take it to that level, it endangers the site.

I don't think it's needed. The members should know better on what is acceptable and what isn't. Plus anything that would need a sex spoiler button is unacceptable. Thank you, my thoughts on this exactly. Upon registration everyone agrees to our terms of service, vulgarity and obscene explicit sexual discussions are not tolerated. Hello?! This forum's rules are no different than pretty much all others out there. To be honest, I went to many different forums I love and copied some of their rules verbatim!! So I don't understand why some take issue with it. I don't view us as "rule-mongers" but lately it seems like we keep having to crack down on people for things you should already know better, than to discuss. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as Angel involves sex. Not all the time graphic, but sex was there ever since Season 2 of Buffy. Along with sexual angst and innuendo. So as long as it remains mature and respectful, it is allowed and hell, it's expected! There are those who have crossed the line, and been subsequently banned for talking about the subject matter in the unacceptable way. Thus proving lack of maturity. In short, no one should have to bite their tongue. You are able to discuss sex when it contributes to the discussion.
