Who here was a Buffy fan, but didn't care for Angel the TV series? *raises hand* I'm sorry, Angel lovers. I love David Boreanaz as much as any guy. Proof below... But the Angel series just didn't grab me. I watched the first two seasons or so, but I just wasn't grabbed. The show lacked the color and power of BTVS, and I didn't think the writing was as good. The mythology felt kind of blah. Granted, Angel was better than most of the shit on TV, but it just never lived up to the legacy that is BTVS. After season 2, I only tuned in every time Wilow had a cameo. I did watch the last season though, since I didn't have BTVS...and it was better than the earlier stuff, but, eh.

I'm not an Angel fan either, i think it's mostly cause i don't like the character Angel and i've never been crazy about Cordy either. So i wasn't really interested in the series that much. Also, whenever i did see a few eps it was in de middle of a season and i really couldn't get into it well.
If i would buy the first season and watch it from the beginning i might even like it, i'm really not sure.. but the eps i have seen just didn't do much for me.

I'm one of those people. I always thought the Angel character was a big pussy...so naturally, I wasn't a big fan. I wouldn't watch it until I bought the DVDs...that way, I could watch the whole series on my own time, instead of worrying about commercials, and waiting every week. I liked Fred and Lorne...and Doyle and Gunn...but I hate the Wesley character even more than the Angel character...so it just worked out that I didn't like the show for character reasons, too. LOL.
It's like they took all the crappy characters from Buffy, and threw them up on another show. LOL. I still give Season 2 props, though...b/c all those Darla scenes?? Awesome!!!

Yeah, I loved Fred/Illyria, and I loved puppet Angel. And whenever David would have his shirt off. But that's about it...

I like the Angel show .. but not as much as Buffy. I mean, in Angel, he always looks sad, unhappy. He's just doing his job without any feelings. In Buffy he had a reason : love ! And I prefer not talking about the end !! Grrrrr ! Joss really has a lack of imagination for the end of his show !!!

The end of the final episode of Angel pissed me off, I was very let down. Like, me and my friends thought it was a joke at first.

I was one of those people. When Angel started, I really didn't care for it. I would watch random episodes or start episodes and not finish them. Then season 2 came around and I was obsessed! I never liked it better than Buffy but I really love Angel too.

When Angel first aired I enjoyed it but I never liked it as much as Buffy. Years later however after I had rewatched the series on dvd I've grown to like it better than Buffy, I think its a stronger show. I'm probably one of the only people who thinks it's a better show than Buffy but for me it just stands the test of time better. I never tire of it.

My enjoyment of the show only really became 'lurve' when Spike joined the cast and then I went back after season seven and watched all the seasons again, this time finding that I appreciated the characters much more for some reason.

keep in mind that angel was a spin off, a spin off never reaches the same level as its original, but still you cant have buffy without angel, angel rules but buffy rules more! besides buffy had dawn so thats a big plus for me! lol When spike joined the angel show at first i didnt like it at all because i was like what the hell? all his work on chosen was kinda lame and not worthy the effort it takes away that special moment when he went up in flames... but later on in s5 of angel the chemistry with angel and spike was awesome

I think Angel is one of the rare spinoffs that I feel like a big portion of people find at least equal to the original. Some don't care for it and some even prefer it over Buffy, but I think many fans find it pretty much on par.
Angel is definitely up there in the ranks of The Jeffersons, Laverne & Shirley and The Facts of Life in terms of great or successful spinoffs. I enjoyed it when it was on, but it wasn't until Buffy went off the air and I really started to get more into Angel that I felt like I actually preferred it over Buffy. I can't quite put my finger on why, though.

And I prefer not talking about the end !! Grrrrr ! Joss really has a lack of imagination for the end of his show !!! I still much prefer the Bufy show over Angel. I think the core of it is that I love most of the characters from Buffy, but Angel as a character bored the heck out of me. He was broody and uninteresting. I didn't like him much on the Buffy show, either. I'm also a Wesley hater. He just bugged me in every way, whether the priggish Watcher on Buffy or the dorky sullen guy on Angel who had no courage. Even when he was dark, he was creepy and irritating, though I thought his relationship with Lilah was funny. I thought Doyle was much more likeable and entertaining than Wesley. I was sad when he died. I really enjoyed season 5 of Angel though, with the colorful characters of Spike, Harmony, and Lorne added as full timers on the cast. Overall, I thinjk that because Buffy herself was so cute and funny, it made even the dark times of the BtVS show much more compelling and watchable. I do like David Boreanaz on Bones. I enjoy him tons more thanthe character of Angel.

I had a problem with the character of Angel from the beginning....at least, when he and Buffy hooked up. Season 2 of Buffy was great, though...b/c of the whole Angelus thing. David did great on the Angelus character but I just didn't feel the love for Angel. I wanted to...but I just couldn't...especially when they brought him back in season 3. Just like Spike coming back in season 5 of Angel, it felt like his death meant nothing, and only confused things more.
I feel that it would've been more painful for Buffy, knowing she sent Angel to Hell, and that he never returned, instead of him returning, and getting over it like he did. It would've made her character that much more tortured, and interesting. They never brought Doyle back, and he died a noble death...his death had meaning...so why bring back Angel and Spike? Just b/c they're major characters?
Anyways...I love David in Bones, too. Booth?? Great character...and David plays him great. Who knew he could do anything but stand there and look pretty? LOL.
I still feel that Angel was a great spinoff...just personal opinion on the characters makes me not like the show as a whole so much. If Doyle had stayed, and we never had Wesley enter the scene again? I bet I would've liked it 100 times better.

I think Angel is one of the rare spinoffs that I feel like a big portion of people find at least equal to the original. I feel that way. I think 'angel' is just as good as buffy. The characters, the writing and the actors are all great. And for me i don't really separate the 2 shows, i think of them both as being one, big buffyverse show.

I actually liked Angel, just not as much as Buffy. I loved the character development on Angel with Cordelia and Angel himself. I was really hoping for one more season with more development with Illyria and would've loved for Wes to live to see that relationship lived out.

I also really love the show Angel. With me both shows are pretty much tied for me. I love them both as equally, but if I had to choose I think I'd pick Buffy just because it has a lot of my favorite characters on there. But getting back to Angel, I think I'm one of the only people here that enjoys Angel as a character. I wasn't a big fan of Angel when he was on Buffy TVS but when I started watching Angel I really enjoyed his character a whole lot more. I love the character Angelus. He's so incredibly interesting. Is it just me or is Angel more hot when he's evil? lol. I really really didn't like Wesley on Buffy, he drove me insane. But I warmed up to him when he was on Angel. I didn't like the fact that he was brought back the episode after Doyle died, it seemed too soon to have a replacement for him, but I did grow to enjoy Wesley after awhile. I really like his geeky/clumsy side in the earlier seasons, he always seemed to be tripping or falling, lol. But I really loved it when he was dark, it was nice to see him step up as a character. I really didn't enjoy his relationship with Lilah, of course I probably didn't because I don't like her all that much... Out of all the deaths on Angel, I think I took his the hardest, it was such a heartbreaking scene for me to watch. I really wish he had lived. I wish Doyle could have stayed on the show, or have made a comeback, but since Glenn Quinn was fired (and later died) it wasn't possible for that to happen. So sad, because I love the character of Doyle so much, there was so much that we didn't get to learn about his past that's still a mystery. It was nice to see Cordelia develop as a character as well. I wasn't much for her blooming relationship with Angel though, I didn't like the thought of them as a couple. Plus I didn't like her when she was evil in season 4 either (she had her moments though), I know it wasn't her, but it still made me like Cordy less. I also really liked Fred, Lorne, and Illyria. I wish we would have had more time to see Illyria, so we could learn more about her past. Lorne, I feel was a bit neglected in season 5, he should have had more screen time. I never really liked Gunn much, there was just something about him that didn't agree with me. Also, I did like Connor, there were times when I didn't, but for the most part I did enjoy his character. Not a lot of people actually liked him, I guess I'm one of the few. As for Spike making a comeback, I did enjoy that. I love how much he can piss Angel off. It's always fun to watch the two of them bickering. I do somewhat feel though that his noble death in "Chosen" was nullified when he was brought back. I wasn't a fan of the ending of Angel either, I wish it would have been a bit better. As soon as it ended I said "That's it?". I was really looking forward to seeing the battle sequence. But the ending did have a good theme, that they kept on fighting the good fight. It kind of leaves it up to the fans to decide what happened. Hopefully it gets clarified sometime down the road by Joss, by him either making a movie or a comic book. I'd prefer a movie though Wow, I wrote a lot.... -Jess

I totally agree about the character of Angel, Jess. I love him! He's definitely one of my favorite characters. Just like you, I'm not that into him on Buffy, but on his own show he really grew into his own. I don't know why everyone finds him so serious and boring; on Angel, he's a really funny guy. Nothing at all like he was on Buffy.

Angel really is a funny guy, I totally agree. I like his sarcastic humor that he brings to the show, I find him a lot funnier than anyone else on the show. I guess that's probably because I have the same sense of humor that he does.
