MORE NEWS! www.syfyportal.com/news423965.htmlNow that he's not spending time trying to bring "Wonder Woman" to the big screen, Joss Whedon is heading back to his roots by finally putting together a long-standing project that has collected more dust on the shelf than ever before. Whedon told fans at San Diego's Comic-Con this past weekend that he is looking to finally put together the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" telemovie spinoff "Ripper" sometime next year. The movie, which would feature Anthony Stewart Head as his character from "Buffy," would be a 90-minute project produced for BBC, according to Whedonesque poster Deanna B. It's likely that the movie would then head to the United States afterward, either on a cable channel like SciFi Channel, or BBC's own BBC America. "Everybody [is] in the same frame of mind that it should happen and will happen soon," Deanna B. paraphrased from Whedon, adding that he had been talking with Head. "Joss is getting sick and tired of not entertaining us enough, so he wants to do things like 'Ripper' that can be done quickly. Lots of creepy things in the back of his brain that needs to get out." Whedon had announced his intentions to do "Ripper" soon after UPN ended "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as a project geared toward British audiences and appearing on BBC. However, the project -- which was slated to be a back-door pilot -- never got off the ground. It's unclear whether this new project would be a one-off type of movie, or something that could lead into a future series on BBC. Finally, Whedon did address questions about a possible "Angel" movie, but said he didn't need do. "It's called 'Bones,' Season 2," Whedon joked.

I'm hoping this will be a gateway for more Buffyverse movies. Didn't Joss hint at an Illyria movie?

Any idea if any other buffy characters will be in the ripper movie? I remember reading that andrew was going to be in it, but that was right after s7 ended, I dunno if he will be now.
As for an illyria movie, that would be awesome!

I don't think Andrew would be in the Ripper tv/movie. I think its set like maybe even before Andrew was born. Its about Giles before he was Buffy's watcher so i don't think Andrew would be in it unless he's going to be a baby

My guess is that it will take place in present time with flashbacks. At least I hope that's what will happen.

But Ripper was the name Giles went by when he, Giles himself, was younger because he was a bada** lawbreaker. I would hate calling it Ripper if it took place after or during the late 1990s
