This thread is to spread the love for some of my favourite unloved Buffy & Angel characters. I'm sure they must have other fans. Feel free to weigh in with your feelings.
Riley He's a great guy. 100% loving and painfully unloved.
Kennedy I hated her as much as many did, but watching season 7 again, I suddenly found her totally un-annoying. Remarkable really. She's strong-minded and very happy to say what she thinks, which makes her very easy to dislike. Still, she's instant hero; and very supportive and devoted to Willow.
Connor My god does this guy get too little love. He's one of my favourite characters and for me absolutely the reason to watch season 4. His inner-destruction is heartbreaking. Season 5 helps to fully convey the fact that he is probably the nicest person ever to grace either show, which is why it is so tragic to see him manipulated so badly.
Gunn Maybe not hated enough to be on this list, but meh. Gunn is another great guy who doesn't get enough props. People complain that he doesn't do a whole lot, which is fair as the writers admittedly had trouble coming up with good ideas for him (see "Players"... eurgh). This is used to great effect however, as Gunn's desperation in season 5 to remain brain-upgraded really resonates. The effect on Gunn when his deal ends in Fred's death is very powerful stuff.
I think why I feel these guys need praise is because they are all clearly good people. How can you dislike good people?

I agree and disagree.
Riley is still a chump and by far my least favorite Buffyverse character simply because he is SO BORING and not at all fun to watch.
Kennedy was portrayed as kind of a bad guy, but she definetely gets more hate than she deserves. I hope to see her being far less obnoxious in season 8.
Connor started out interesting, then became really, REALLY convoluted, then became interesting again. I liked him in season 5.
Gunn is terrific. Once again, he was at his best in season 5, although he had a lot of great moments in previous seasons.
So you're mostly right, but I still don't care for Riley. I want to see him back in season 8, though. With all the military stuff, it's inevitable that the army will eventually tell him to assassinate Buffy (with hilarious results).

Riley - always hated him and I don't think that can change. Hated his wife quite a bit too when she showed up briefly. There is just something about him that I can't stomach. I think it's the boring thing Commandercool mentioned.
Kennedy - I found her much less annoying after seeing the season many times over. She's tolerable now. I couldn't really stand her before. I think that had less to do with her character and more to do with the fact that she was not Tara.
Connor - Yes, this kid was a mess who needed a proper Mama's love. I agree. but god he was annoying and whiny just like his dad can be sometimes. And I love Angel, so that's hard for me to say. I'm glad he got a real family eventually and he did turn out to be more interesting when he wasn't so messed up with unresolved daddy issues.
Gunn - I always liked him except when he was with Fred. I always wanted Fred and Wes to be together. So, so long as he wasn't Fredding it up, I was cool with him.
Leave it to a girl to break it down from the actual characters and into ships. What can I say? I'm like Spike - a hopeless romantic even if just a little evil sometimes. ;D

I know what you mean about Gunn with Fred. Back when I was watching for the the first time; I disliked him then too, only cause I was rooting for Wesley.

Riley He's a great guy. Yadayadayada. Not good for Buffy. Too much of a baby.
Kennedy I liked her at first, but then I got the whol "Tara's dead" vibe from her and hated her.
Connor Coolest kid thats not supposed to exist ever!
Gunn Who says hes unloved?

I think that Harmony is the most underrated in the Buffyverse. She was in the unaired pilot of Buffy all the way to final episode of Angel. I feel like she gets little to no love for everything she's done. She's probably one of the funniest characters to ever appear and I thought that she was develeped well in Angel Season 5, she actually became a character that mattered. Mercedes McNab was great at playing her and looked good doing it.

Harmony was awesome. I couldn't stand her as one of Cordelia's bookends, but once she was vamped, I loved her to pieces. Mercedes recently showed up as a vampire on Supernatural too. I thought that was cool.

I do love her last moments in Angel; she's goes out fired and still evil.

I always like Tara and Darla.
For Tara, I liked the contrast of the white witch to Willow's dark witch. She was supporting and caring to all and was non-judgmental but had good comedic moments. I wished they are showcased her more than just Willow's girlfriend and for her powers to have grown too.
The reasons why I like Darla just seeing the transformation of her during Angel. Just seeing her having Connor transformed her as a cold-hearted vampire to one with humanity.
And I agree with everyone about Harmony, she's was a laugh a minute in Angel S5.

Tara can often go ignored because she's so quiet. I liked her making comments about Spike's "cramp" in Older and Far Away hehe. She and Giles are the most likable characters in season 6 I think.

I never really liked Tara until the sixth season. I think when she left Willow she became her own character. she's always been known as Willow's girlfriend which is really sad because her character was so great.

I have to add Kate to this list. I think she was the most realistic character on the show. She was a regular person with a regular job. I also think she had the most realistic reaction to the demonic world. One thing I really loved about her was how she was so strong on the outside but extremely weak on the inside. The scene in Reprise when she gets fired makes me break down everytime I watch it. Elisabeth Rohm did a great job and I find her and Kate really underrated. To bad she didn't get a proper goodbye. Maybe she will appear in After the Fall or First Night.

I really love RIley. I never understood why so many people hate him!
I am not a huge Kennedy fan when she is with Willow but I don't mind her as a character.

I love Harmony. She's hilarious, but Mercedes McNabb brings a very vulnerable quality to her which isn't necessarily there in the writing. She's very under-rated as an actress. I like the way her character grew without her ever really evolving. Also, her bitch fight with Xander in season four is superb. 'Sissy hair puller!' I have to add Kate to this list. I think she was the most realistic character on the show. To bad she didn't get a proper goodbye. Maybe she will appear in After the Fall or First Night. Kate brought much-needed balance to the early seasons of Angel, where the fantasy was a little bit higher than it ever had been on Buffy. Sometimes I think the writers made her too gritty - although, if I remember correctly, she was originally intended as an addict - and her story got bogged down under a lot of baggage. I wish she'd come back at some point, but I think there was a shift in tone during series three, and I'm not sure how she'd have fit into it. I hope we get to see her again in After the Fall. She'd make an excellent last page reveal, if only people would remember who she was! MB x

Riley: I don't hate him or like him.
Kennedy: Right now I don't dislike her, I used to though.
Kate: I always liked the idea of them having a connection with the law. She was interesting, they teased her being a love interest, made her distrust Angel and then had that great moment where he saved her.
Harmony: Only character on here I really can not stand. I wanted Spike to stake her in Harsh Light of Day. She just irks me.
Nina: I had no problem with her. And even though I liked Darla/Angel and Cordelia/Angel I was fine with her dating him.
Gunn: Love Gunn. The idea of a vampire fighter not chosen protecting people and joining up with a vampire was a nice story. He had ties outside the group (something we see less and less of) and I loved his friendship with Wes.
Darla: Was so much fun, one of the reasons Angel season 2 is my favorite season in the 'verse. Thanks to her I finally saw Angel as a sexual character.
Connor: Love Connor but like Cordelia I hated what they did to him. Glad they decided to use him more. I like to see them play more with what it's like for him to be part of two worlds. The "new" Connor seems very laid back about what he can do and his leadership in season 6 reminds me some of Gunn.

Riley: Like him more than most people, but he's not one of my favorites.
Kennedy: Not a big fan
Kate: She had a couple of interesting moments, but her story was a bit too repetitive.
Harmony: She was occasionally funny, but mostly just annoying (to me)
Nina: Eh, she didn't appear much, so I don't have much of an opinion about her.
Gunn: Great character, but they should have done more with him pre-S5 I think.
Darla: Darla on AtS was a great character. Darla on BtVS Season 1, on the other hand, seems to have almost nothing in common with the Darla we later see on AtS! Weird..
Connor: I really don't like him. Sorry. He was alright in S5.

Sunday. Way cooler than Spike. Oh, how I wish Sunday would of stayed around more. She was just way too cool to kill in one episode. And she says one of my all time favorite Buffy lines. "No the fact that you're fat makes you look fat, that sweater just makes you look... purple."

Sunday was definitely a great character but I think Buffy had to kill her then to make the episode complete.

Riley Riley was... okay, I guess, but out of his league and kinda boring to boot.
Kennedy I like Kennedy. She's tough, kocky (and it's beyond sad that you have to misspell that word to use it.) outspoken, and irreverent. She's also cute and hot for Willow. What's not to like?
Connor I have to admit, I didn't watch "Angel" all that much - never got into it like "Buffy." But Connor was quite possibly my least favorite character on any series ever.
Gunn Nah.
