One thing that really bugs me is how when Spike got a soul, he was still Spike, there was no difference at all. Angel is COMPLETELY different. I mean, Angel was cursed with his soul and Spike fought for his, but should there really be a difference. A soul is a soul. Spike should be acting like a broody William, shouldn't he? I underlined the bit that pretty much answers your question. Therein lies the fundamental difference between Angel and Spike. Even before the ensoulment, Spike was already different. He was quasi-good; he fought the good fight because he couldn't hurt people, but demons were fair game. But the even bigger difference lies in the fact that Spike could love, even before having a soul. He loved Drusilla, and Buffy, and in the flashbacks in S7, he even showed love for his mother, whom he turned because he wanted to save her from TB. My point is, Spike already had empathy, sympathy, and love... all qualities that kinda blur the division between the human and demon aspects of being a vampire. Angel has confessed to never having loved as Angelus (I think this was on Angel, though). Even the Judge could sense this, telling Spike and Drusilla that they reeked of humanity. And Spike did act like broody William for a bit. Well, actually, he kinda went crazy right after the ensoulment. But he showed a more introspective side after getting his soul back. Also, if you consider the time frame in which Angel and Spike had time to brood, you'll see that Spike's timeline is a lot shorter. Angel had something like a century to feel remorse and all that, before being given direction by Whistler. Spike on the other hand, had Buffy to pull him out of his funk, a human crutch of sorts. Plus, he was given a mission pretty quick; fight the good fight, save the world. And I agree with Wyndam about the production side of things.

The continuity error that bugs me the most is in season 3 in Amends. The first appearance of The First. It's Jenny at the moment, I believe, and it's stroking Angel's hair. BUT... in season 7, it's incorporeal and unable to touch ANYTHING.
Bugs the shit out of me.

One that I can think of is in S2 "When She was Bad. " Buffy is in the car with her mom and we see that she is wearing a pink spaghetti strap shirt. Then it goes to another scene where Buffy is wearing a completely different outfit. Then, in a later scene, she is wearing the pink spaghetti strap shirt again. Obviously, an editing mistake there.

I am fortunate enough not to notice most of the inconsistencies unless they are pointed out to me (which my fiance inevitably likes to do, lol).

There was also a problem in consistency with the gypsy girl Angel killed. In 2 different episodes on Angel it shows the gypsy girl, and in both they are completely different people. I believe one was blonde and the other was a brunette. Plus I'm pretty sure the dresses were different too.

The first season of Angel, the episode "In The Dark", where Spike comes after the Gem of Amara, there is a plot hole.
After Oz, Doyle and Cordelia rescue Angel from Spike and that Vampire they leave in the van. The vampire then double crosses Spike and steals the ring. While they are in the van driving away Angel tells the gang that the vampire LOVES children. How does he know that the vampire got the ring? They had already left...

Here's some I know of: -In the episode "Halloween"; when Xander, Buffy, Cordelia and Angel are in Buffy's home. How did a vamp get in Buffy's house without an invite? I know it was a vamp because Angel asked Buffy to get him a stake. Oh I hate this one! It upsets me! I think it's because Halloween is one of my favorite funny episodes and this cheapens it sooo much. I think it's the only "vamp invitation" error they ever made, but that's a very big deal to even have one. The only fanwank I can think of is that the vamp wasn't really a vamp at all, just a trick-or-treater dressed as a vamp thus nulling the rule (although I don't know why anyone would dress up as a vamp in that town.)

In the episode where Buffy runs away to L.A. and is working in the diner she jumps down into "hell" wearing one pair of shoes, and has what looks like a different pair on when she jumps onto the platform thingie with the axe. Then when she comes up out of the place there are different shoes on again. And another thing i've always wondered... in the flashbacks of William and his bloody awful poetry Cessily looks like the same actress as Halfrek. Later in the 6th season when it is Buffy's b-day and Dawn makes the wish to Hallie there is a scene where Hallie and Spike obviously recognize each other. It has driven me crazy because i wonder if she is supposed to be Cessily turned to vengance demon like Anya was or if it is supposed to just be that Halfrek and Spike hung out together previously back in the day and she isn't Cessily/former Cessily at all. Because if she was turned into a demon and recruited by D'Hoffryn then why is her name Halfrek and does Spike know it's her? Grrrr Any other opinions on this?

I think I read somewhere that the writers did actually state that Halfrek/Cecily is the same person.
As for the name thing:
When D'Hoffryn recruited Anya, her original name was Aud. D'Hoffryn kept calling her Anyanka, saying that was her real name, and the name just stuck, so when she became human again she just shortened her name.
So I'm guessing when D'Hoffryn came to Cecily he called her Halfrek, in the same way with Anyanka, just renaming them as he sees fit.
An issue I never got with the vengeance demon thing is that I thought their power laid in their amulets. You can see reference to that in "The Wish", "Dopplegangland", "Older & Far Away", etc. But when D'Hoffryn makes Anya a vengeance demon again after "Hell's Bells" why does she not wear an amulet? I know her old one was lost (broken by Giles in the alternate reality), but still there should have been a new one made for her, since that would have been her power source. I don't like when there is an inconsistancy like that.

There's one continuity error that I noticed in season seven. It's mentioned a couple of times that if Buffy dies, a Potential could be called. However... isn't the Slayer line past her now? When she died in season one, Faith was called. Another Slayer shouldn't be called until Faith dies. When Buffy died in season five, no new Slayer is called. So having them say that the Buffy dying could activate a Potential was a bit strange...

This I saw yesterday when I watched Somnabulist(Angel season 1) Quote: PENN: We were to meet in Italy, remember? ANGEL: I remember. PENN: Well, I waited. Hell, I waited till the 19th century. What happened? ANGEL: Got held up in Romania. PENN: Romania. What’s in Romania? ANGEL: Gypsies. In 1898 Angel gets "help up" in Romania. So I think that Penn meant that he waited until the 20th century. Unless Angel meant that he was held up by gypsies another time... I think the whole character of Penn is lame, and completely inconsistent with Angelus' bio with Darla. He appears only in one episode and is never mentioned before or after ! I hate when "important" people for a main character's bio are only created for one episode like this. Same thing for the vampire couple from the beginning of season 3 (of Angel). Generally, I don't like at all when a part of Angel's past is created artificially just to use it in one episode, not caring to match with his actual bio. There are plenty examples of that in AtS. For example, he was supposed to have wandered without purpose, living outside of the society, since he got his soul, until he met Whistler and saw Buffy. But then, we learn that he's done a lot of things when he was supposed to be "out". He has even taken part in WW2 (Why We Fight, the worst episode of all the Buffyverse for me) !! Angel's past in Hyperion is one of the best done "Angel's past" part to me. I totally agree, the actual slayer is Faith and she should have been considered as such. One little thing : When Buffy died, Kendra was activated, Faith was activated when Kendra was killed by Drusilla.

Maybe because she had a lot less airtime then Faith did... but still, I feel embarrassed. >_<

When Darla comis back in season 3 of Angel (Offspring) Lorne acts surprised when he hears that Angel boned Darla. It could be that Lorne is surprised that Angel made Darla pregnant, because they're both vamps(perhaps he thought som eother being knocked uo Darla) or he just wants to pretend to the others that he didn't know, but I think it's a consistency error. The writers, Andy Hallet-something, didn't temember what Lorne found out about Angel&Darla's night in season 2.
In season 2 before Angel & Lorne has the talk ephiphany talk, Lorne says "Keep your pants on, ops too late" or something like that, so he knows that Angel sleept with Darla.
Or, if I rememeber the event wrong, Lorne only knew that Angel sleept with someone he shouldn't. Perhaps Darla was never mentioned.

Well he did live outside of society, wandering. He didn't make contact with other people, and the chick in the hyperion episode, really made him even more unsocial I bet. Just because he wasn't living on the streets doesn't mean that he was "living".

Adding to the list of continuity mistakes...there is one that I always notice when I watch "Primeval".
In the scene with Xander & Anya where he is lying in bed all depressed, the sheet keeps changing. In one shot you can see his chest, in the next the sheet is pulled up over his chest and then suddenly it's back down below his chest again. I don't know, but for some reason that just bugs me. Nipples, no nipples, and then nipples again!! LOL!!
Another thing, with Angel. In season 1 Angel tells Buffy that he hasn't fed off a living person since getting his soul, but that statement is contradicted on few occasions during Angel's first, fourth & fifth seasons. That I'm not so picky about cause Angel could have been lying to keep Buffy from staking him.

I know it was a vamp because Angel asked Buffy to get him a stake. -Sunnydale has docks/ships in it, yet when they show the big hole at the end of Chosen it's in the middle of a desert. Not near a coastline. I've got good explanations for these. In the Halloween episode the vampire wasn't really a vampire, he was a kid who dressed as one and then the spell changed him. So if you think of it that way perhaps the invitation thing didn't apply to him cause him wasn't really a vamp. As for the docks/ships in Season 2 & 3...while it was implied the docks were close, the audience was never told that those scenes were actually taking place in Sunnydale and they never showed any signs declaring those ships or docks as being associated with Sunnydale in anyway. The docks could have been in a nearby town next to the coastline. Okay it's probably a stretch but there is room for debate.

Actually, maybe Angel asked for a stake in Halloween because he expected that wood would kill this demon too. And I wouldn't be surprised if he expected her to have a lot of stakes lying around, so asked for that instead of a knife.

Holtz' daughter that was turned into a vampire still had bite marks on her neck. The other vamps we've seen rise in Buffy & Angel have had their wounds healed as soon as they arose.
In Supersymmatry, Angel season 4, in the end scene Angel has a wound on this cheek. The next episode have the same scene, but without the wounds/gaze. Not even any blood.
I always find it funny when the vamps superheal a bloody wound without leaving any blood, like in the ep in season 1 of Angel, when Doyle is about to get eaten. Angel's wound heals and the blood is sucked back into the wound. That's just weird. Not sure if it's a consistency error, or just annoying.

henz, I see what you mean about the Hyperion past (I thought the same thing before), but I agree with skytteflickan88, Angel was still living out of society.
About the "no human blood since ensouled" thing, I see that as a continuaity error.
