So what would you honestly have as a movie: A really good fanfic or an average movie that has Joss' name on it? Joss is largely irrelevant for me as I don't watch the shows for Joss. I watch the shows for good writing, acting and stories and Joss isn't the only guy capable of that. For me, it isn't the writing. It's the producing that's got me worried. If Joss wasn't involved but it had great writing, it would still be substantially not Buffy, but also could be all around enjoyable. The Kuzui's make that impossible, no matter how obliging you are.

Bigotted may seem a little strong, but given some of the reactions here it might just kick people awakwe to what they are actually saying. Extreme prejudice would perhaps be a better summation of some of the reactions here.
The movie could end up being the biggest load of cack ever. or it could be just another pointless Summer blockbuster. or it could be amazing. But right now we don't have anywhere near enought information to make that sort of judgement call. What is happening on this board isn't rational perusal of the facts but an irrational, gut-reaction to things that haven't even happened yet.
if when the film is getting produced, it looks like its gonna be a stinker, then complain. By all means write to the Kuzui's and Fox and express your worries and concerns. But boycotting and dismissing a film that hasn't even been written yet or cast? Too far.
I'm no fan of the last 2 seasons of Buffy, but even I'm intrigued by the prospect of a new film. I'm just waiting to see what is, not worry what it might not be before its even begun.

So, rebecca, you would sacrifice the possibility of a good movie just to ensure Joss was in there? I'm afraid i couldn't. Buffy as a brand is buigger than us, bigger than SMG and, as much as others like you may not like it, its bigger than Joss.

I said the lack of Joss doesn't break the movie, the involvement of the Kuzui's does.

So what would you honestly have as a movie: A really good fanfic or an average movie that has Joss' name on it? Really good fanfic is fine, as long as it admits to being fanfic and doesn't pretend to be anything else. I would pay to see an average Whedon film. I wouldn't pay to see the greatest piece of fanfic ever written... and I'd consider it offensive to be asked to do so. Joss is largely irrelevant for me as I don't watch the shows for Joss. I watch the shows for good writing, acting and stories and Joss isn't the only guy capable of that. Then those good writers and actors and storytellers should get busy telling their own stories, and not leeching off someone else's without their permission.

As I have said, Andrew, the Buffy brand is bigger than Joss, it really is. It can survive without him. I would love him to do a Buffy movie, cos when he is on song he is a gifted writer, but he's not the only one.

If it's about another slayer, go for it. If it is about BUFFY...no.

I don't really fear the Kuzui's on this. in fact, I would be far more fearful if I found out marti Noxon was producing it.

Wouldn't it just be amazing if all the studios seeing the outrage on the internet right now ignored this idea and called Joss? Yeah, that's my fantasy. I do have to admit it is cool seeing Buffy on every website, too bad it's all negative though. This reboot better not move forward from this point. It's sickening to everyone involved with the show. I really hope Joss makes a statement.

So far the closest thing to an official comment is this tweet from drhorrible:
"Oy."
ETA: And Felicia Day made a frowny-face tweet.

How can Joss or anyone else involved with the show be sickened about a Buffy reboot that hasn't even been written yet, let alone cast and filmed? i really don't get this animosity.

Because Buffy the Vampire Slayer is his baby and has been for 15 years. You might not get that, but the vast majority of the fandom... and I daresay almost everyone involved in the show... does. Joss and Buffy are inextricably linked. That's just the way it is. Taking Buffy away from him would be j ust wrong.

But you are judging a project not on what has been done but on a presumption of failure due to the fact Joss would not be involved. This simply doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Its irrational.
Buffy is bigger than Joss, that is simply a fact. They are not linked other than he is the creator but like any work of art it has grown beyond the simple concept and is its own self. As long as the writing and acting and production is up there, the people writing it and producing it are irrelevant.

wrong, ambersknight. the Kuzuis are cutting through the bond and stepping all over his creation like they did it themselves, just because they have a few of the legal rights. Legal rights are fine, but this is less about legal stuff and more about respect. *rising patriotic music* Respect for Joss, for us, for the 'Verse and for Buffy!
