I'm so glad Gunn is a vampire! First of all his character was getting pretty boring on the show, and secondly, when I first though he was alive I was like seriously? I mean he was almost dead in the finale, and hes just a human up against that army of hell. I honestly am not upset at all in the direction they took his character. The telepathic fish was kind of weird tough...have to get used to that. SO awesome seeing Gwen back. Not a huge fan of Nina but I guess its fun to have a werewolf back. Can't wait to see what Illyria and Spike are up to. Oh and the fact that theres no ads is awesome!
Anyone know the exact date for issue 2?

Picked this up today, haven't been coming here too often, so I didn't know it came out a week early. Heh'.
I loved it! More than Buffy, I think, too. Wes back was a HUGE surprise! And I'm so excited. I loved Wes and this end is possibly even more poignant than if he were just dead.
Oh, and I cannot wait to see Illyria!

It was originally Dec. 26th but now the page says the 19th!!! YAY! I love reading these posts. It's great to see how others think and that some think like me!! After watching NFA I looked at my hubby and he looked at me and we both said Gunn would be a vamp. (yeah, it was the finale, but we like to guess where the characters would go). We are dorks. I then get the comic, and poof..gunn=vamp. I also thought by the way things were the Angel was the sire. Then someone else here did. I love that I found you guys! :-*Slayalive people

The First issue was very short. I'm trying to figure out how Angel's gonna declare war with only him, Connor, Gwen, Nina, and an incorporeal Wes. Now that, Spike is "retired" and but wait...where the hell is Illyria?

I finally got my copy in the mail! I wasn't impressed with the story (yet!) but I liked the actual quality of the comic, the paper seemed better than Buffy's.

Hey Mickey - Good to see you posting here again ;-)
Personally, I liked the first issue story. It was too short, but served well as a teaser of things to come.

I think that the art is what is throwing it off for me. I feel that it is too heavy (too much inks). I don't like the way the characters are drawn either, kinda lacking detail/likeness.
Anyway the writing is superb and that's ultimately all that is important. I'm sure that it's gonna get way more interesting as the issues go on. I wasn't a fan of Buffy Issue 1 either.

First issues are intended to re-introduce you to the Buffy/Angel stories and IMO i think both issues have captured that greatly.

I just got the 1st issue yesterday and honestly I have to say I liked it, I didn't love it but I liked it. I loved the idea of Wesley being back. What's up with Nina's look I could hardly tell it was her on the other hand I'm really happy they brought Gwen back, she's like one of my favorite characters on Angel, I wish they would make her red and blonde highlights a bit more visible though.

Well, I FINALLY bought issue 1. It was okay. I loved the overall quality of the comics (pages and such). I liked that there was no commercials but the main problem I had was 1. the fish 2. it was VERY confusing...more confusing then the Buffy comics 3. I HATED HATED HATED that they showed Gunn as a vamp (which I loved) the last panel on the RIGHT side of the page so it was the first things I saw when i turned the page. At least the Buffy comics make you turn the page to reveal the shocking ending.

I just re-read issue 1 of Angel after the fall and discovered several lines that confused me. When I first read the issue I had issue 2-6 lying next to me too so I didn't bother getting upset by those little things since I had so much to read, but now I want to know.
*Page 1: Angel says: ”Then they killed her.” Does he think that W&H killed Cordy? And what exactly does he mean with ”It all started with a girl.” What started with a girl? How Cordy was possessed, that he joined W&H?
*”And Wolfram&Hart, always a fan or irony, in addition to torture, dropped me where it all began.” It all began? Did he mean that it all began in hell or that the fight in Not Fade Away began in W&H? Was Angel dropped of there in the sense that he feel and broke his back near W&H offices?
So guys, do you know the answers/have qualified guesses?

I actually thought he was refering to Fred... maybe his first "it all started with a girl" is refered to Cordy (or to Buffy, 'cause I think that's how the series began or how the pilot was supposed to begin.. don't remember), but I'm pretty sure that sentence is for Fred. It's explained after he joins LA's branch and I don't think W&H had anything to do with Cordelia's death (guess the PTBs are to blame for that one). Besides, Angel gets darker after Fred dies, and he uses that to gain the Circle's trust.
Don't know... maybe he blames W&H for Cordy's death after all, which gave him the supposed vision about the Circle and what he had to do. Although seeing how things are going, right now I'm starting to think that that one-shot vision was sent by the Senior Partners rather than the Powers...
Don't think I'm that qualified for the second question. But reading it "Then they killed Fred." seems the most logic answer.

It's confirmed, a user on IDW boards said that Brian had said it was Fred.
You were right! *dancing the dance of joy*

Re-reading all my comics, because I like reading them all close together and get so much more out of them.
Reflecting on how I felt when I first read it, I was completely spun. The whole 'city gone to hell' thing was totally unexpected for me. Maybe I was expecting something more along the lines of the show - and it really opened my eyes to how much they'd be able to do with the comic book medium!
I thought the artwork was great, but not exactly my taste (and still feel that way), I was/am enjoying the Buffy art much more - changes of artist really add to the freshness of each issue.
I also found it hard to recognise some of the characters - until it was mentioned. I.e Wesley - so unexpected so didn't think it was him. And Gunn a vampire - I didn't think it was him because he didn' look right to me. Now I've become accustomed to the look so I can interpret and comprehend it much better - but it was difficult at first. Maybe because I was new to comics.
I enjoyed the story, but felt it was so short and not as intimate as the tv show. That's one reason I love reading them all in a bunch over and over.
