I was just curious because we're all brought together by a love of a show about vampires, demons, witches, etc. and i was wondering if that had influenced anyone one way or the other...
i definitely believe in the supernatural if both of these criteria are met:
Can't be explained: If someone claims to have telepathy, and there is a history of mental instability, then no, not paranormal.
Some kind of physical evidence: I, personally, have been taught to believe in bigfoot... the worst part of that, is my uncle, who taught me to believe in it, proposed to his wife while looking for bigfoot... And i generally don't believe the stories because it's just that. a story. no evidence, it's a lie.
I believe in ghosts, bigfoot, telepaths, but i don't believe in actual magic... i believe that there are people who think they are witches, gypsies, high priestesses, but i think they're (for the most part) crazy.
I do believe in aliens, but not "WE'RE HERE TO KILL YOU AND HARVEST YOUR ORGANS" aliens... the universe is infinitely big... ergo, no way in hell we're the only intelligent life forms.
i also think that 99.99999% of psychics are full of shit.

One of my good friends is aparently psychic and it runs in her family... the things she's told me make it impossible for me not to believe in something! For her, all the people in her family have the sensitivity to it, but the women more so. Her brother completely rejects it and it scares him when she and their mother talk about it around him. She recently went to a closed down mental institution in Australia that was known for it's patient brutality - and the things she says she say give me shivers and chills! She's told me that there are a LOT more scammers out there than real-deals. She recently went to a "Psychic" fair to have a look around and she feels that probably all the people that were there in no way genuine. I've always believed that there is something other than this life but I'm never sure what it is. On a lighter note: When I was about 11 til the age of 13, me and my group of friends pretended we were witches and we had lots of spellbooks, candles, ingredients, my bestie even had a subscription to a wicca magazine. We ued to have 'spell' nights and sit around chanting. We even used 'spells' from movies like "The Craft" and "Practical Magic". Hahaha. I believe there is something in the universe also (but not the aliens we know from culture projections). I think that it would be absolutely ridiculous if there wasn't something out there considering how big the universe is. Mythical creature-wise, I don't believe in BigFoot but I do believe in Nessie I have a book i've had since I was very very young and it had 'real' ghost stories and photos of sitings of creatures and stuff. I was obsessed with the Loch Ness 'monsters' pics. I believe it is a dinosaur

I voted with the absolutely category.
There's a couple of things that I don't believe in ---Area 51 and aliens. I mean, there has to be something else out there, but I just don't want to believe in it(ha, ha). I do believe in ghosts and there could be some evidence of supernatural things out there somewhere(vampires, werewolves, etc.) My theory is just that these things had to evolve out of some form of truth, albeit literature or a skewed story.

For a long time I didn't believe in ghosts etc. but then a couple of spooky experiences kind of convinced me.
I was on the Isle of Wight (the small diamond-shaped island in the south of England, said to be one of the most haunted places in the country) - we were visiting Carisbrooke Castle and were looking around Charles I bedroom.
The friend I was with said that when she had been there before, she'd felt something ghostly... and told us to go over to the fireplace and stick our hands in it, and see what happened. I was skeptical... but did as she said and woah - it was so strange. My arm started going tingly and numb, and it felt like something was touching my hand. Really creepy, and there were about six of us who all felt the same thing.
Second instance also happened on the Isle of Wight - that same day we went on a Ghost Walk in Shanklin village, and the guide took us to a part of the village where you could look out across the sea, and he told us a story about the HMS Eurydice, that had sunk just past Whitecliff Bay and Culver Cliff. He said that over the years since its sinking, people report seeing a tall ship sailing across the bay, and disappearing just before it gets to Culver Cliff... fair enough, wouldn't have convinced me, except..
The day before, my sister and I had been standing on the cliff above Whitecliff Bay, and she had pointed out a tall ship sailing across (a strange enough sight in this day and age, so we watched it)... and yep, it did disappear just as it reached Culver Cliff. We didn't think anything of it at that point but after hearing the story of HMS Eurydice... we were freaked out.
Haven't had anymore ghostly experiences since, although the year before on the IoW my sisters went to the Ventnor Botanical Gardens and saw some strange lights around what is known as "spooky bench".
So yeah, I believe in it at least a little... although I haven't had any spooky experiences anywhere else but the IoW!

Im a crazy luny tune who believes in the supernatural. lol. I believe there is alot of things the even scientists cant understand so they just make up a whole pile of crap. I believe in alot of things. I dont belive that magic is as extreme as the movies make it out to be but can be used for simpler things and is hard to understand. I believe in ghosts and parallel universes. I believe in spontaniuos combustion and other things. Nice thread. Does anyone agree with what I believe. I also believe in karma.

One thing… Aliens are not Supernatural….if we called Aliens Supernatural we would have to call our self’s the same thing. Just because something is from another world it doesn’t make it really any different then us really. That a side.
Nopes I don’t believe in anything Supernatural. Ghosts to me are just peoples minds playing games on them some people want to see ghost so their mind gives them ghosts. Like people who lost a loved one then say they saw them. It’s just their minds giving them what they want. That’s how I see it.
As for people seeing the future, mind reading etc I just think that is crock. People need to get life’s and actual jobs imo.
I see it as what you see is what you get. I think people who do believe in stuff like goblins, fairies etc just need to be locked in a padded room and not to be let out again.

I think that by definition anything that was described as 'supernatural' would be impossible to measure by natural means - i.e. all the means we have at our disposal. From this standpoint I can't really believe in the supernatural, but 'believe' would definitely be the word if you did. It seems contradictory to say that there could be physical evidence for something that was still described as 'supernatural'. I voted no.

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS FAIRIES!! Thankfully, the missus isn't around at the moment. I'd get a nice big wallop....anyhow, as for me and the supernatural, well, I'm not real sure if I do or don't believe in it, but I find it a fascinating subject. I always read up on it, trying to find books about the supernatural, ever since I was about 12 or 13. Though, I'm more interested in the vampires/werewolves thing than ghosts or psychics. My mother's got a thick book on different creatures separated into categories and my grandmother's got a fair few books on the subject

I voted absolutely. I definitely believe in the supernatural. I don't really know what, yet, but there's definitely more than human beings in this world. I kind of believe in everything until I'm proven wrong, instead of the other way around.

Earth has been standing for millions of years... yet we don't have one piece of proof that the supernatural are real. I think theirs a reason for this.. maybe that it's not true sure theirs other things then human beings... we got animals, birds etc. I think if the supernatural was real then we would have proof by now. I guess it's sweet you believe.

I'm not religious and I don't really LIKE religion, but besides the point. I think it's silly to dismiss any possibility of something unless there is proof staring you in the face. I wouldn't jump of a cliff in my devotion to a belief I would become a ghost! But I don't want to dismiss the idea there could be and without an openmind we will NEVER 'know'.

Religion is just in place to give people hope and something to believe in. The way see it, it was made of people who were on crack or something and it took. I just think religion is here to help people who need faith and want to be strong and believe 'god' will give them that strength. Some people need this lie. And people who have seen Ghosts and snizz well it's all in their heads. Most of them are people who have seen family members and such well that's just their mind giving them what they want which is to see that said family member for one last time or such. The mind is a very powerful thing and it play tricks on us all the time. Some need their brains checking if they think fairy's and the likes are real or could be real no offense and all but i just find it very silly. Sure it's nice some people have religion and the supernatural to give them faith or strength and the like some need it but at the end of the day no solid proof has ever been given that it is all real and it never will i don't think. You can't say you do believe in it with out proof i mean it's just like me saying "oh yes i believe that we are nothing more then dolls in some giants dollhouse" no one can tell me I'm wrong. It's just the same with believing in something that has no proof of it not or being true. [also i'f i am coming across as pissy or anything ignor it i just had no sleep so my brain is not working in full motion for tack]

You cannot measure or test the praeternatural, what tests would you put it to? If there were proof, undoubtable quantifiable proof, it would be "natural" and not "outside nature". Believing in the praeter- or supernatural does involve a leap of faith, however that shouldn't be lost on anyone familiar with the foundations of science either. Do you think DaVinci worked out the physics calculations to flight when he drew his flying contraptions? The concept of controlled flight had been around for millenia but considered a myth, impossible. Yet, did the observers who watched the Wright brothers not believe in controlled flight because they could not measure it? They could sense the wonder, they could see, hear, and feel the wonder, but they could not explain how it occurred. The calculations came later. Some things we just don't understand until we do I don't believe in UFOs, but I do believe in aliens. Not little green men, or beautiful blue women, but life forms in this or another galaxy within the universe. I do believe in ghosts. That's because I believe that we are the sum of our essence and our physical bodies, and I don't know where our essence goes after death, so the concept that people's spirits are trapped between dimensions (see Stephen Hawking on alternate dimensions) is not lost on me. That said, I do think the human mind is susceptible to illusion, so I would really need to experience it to believe a "sighting" was real. I believe psychics are 99% bs. Telling the future I call BS. I don't believe in auras, but I do believe in body language (though that isn't supernatural That said, if there are ghosts, I believe some people may be able to sense or speak with them; but even those with actual psychic tendencies would be prone to faking it for money. We all have to eat, yeah? Supernatural creatures, angels and demons? No. Sorry. As much as I love Buffy, Angel, Supernatural, and the like, I think it's all pretty much bs. Magic I'm not sold on either way. I've never seen anything to make me believe, but I don't disbelieve either. So overall, I'd say a little.

I guess it's sweet you believe. I think, honestly, a lot of people wouldn't believe in it even if scientists somehow managed to catch a ghost (xD). The supernatural isn't a part of the natural world (obviously), which is why you either believe it or you don't. There isn't any scientific proof (though, like Rebecca said, I don't really believe that's possible), but there is in fact proof out there. I guess it depends on how you define proof. I myself have more than enough proof for a lot of supernatural things
