Agree about the Dawn scene in CWDP being one of the scariest on the show. "Mother's milk is red today" and the hands around Joyce's throat while she's lying on the couch. Yeek!

I think Glory was scary mainly because there was a real sense of danger whenever she was around. I remember watching Season 5 for the first time, and was worried that someone would die whenever Glory showed up. With every other villain you at least knew that Buffy would be able to protect everyone somewhat. With Glory, it was a completely different story. That's what made her scary.

Well I suppose in a way Glory did the almost impossible... killed Buffy.

Agreed, Glory was scary because she was just so insanely powerful, not to mention crazy. The scene in "Blood Ties", where she's talking quite pleasantly with Dawn in the hosptial, then suddenly "smells a fox", is quite frightening IMO. Same with Caleb, he was scary because you knew the characters were in real physical danger if he was around. When he attacks Buffy in the school for example. As for minor demons of the week, I think the ghost thing in "After Life" was pretty disturbing. The scene where Anya cuts up her own face... eesh! Plus when it appears in Willow and Tara's room... if that happened you would totally shit yourself.

I think Glory is very scary in the sense that, by all outward appearances she seems like any normal human being, but the truth is she is capable of some pretty dangerous things.

There were only 2 times I actually felt scared:
1. The possessing demon in After Life. It was very creepy when it would possess people, especially Buffy and Dawn. Wasn't creepy after it took physical form
2. "Joyce" in CWDP. That was sooo good, especially when you saw her body on the couch for a split second

The Mayor gave a tangible sense of danger as well. I remember getting the wiggins in Graduation Day Part 1 when he comes into the library. When Giles stabbed him with the foil, I really thought he would stab Giles back!

What I really found terrifying was the ghost/body of that High School Student in "I Only Have Eyes For You". Apart from that, it was okay, I guess. Even the Gentlemen were more 'cool' than scary, at least for me.

The scariest demon for me would be the Gentlemen. The way they glided in movement; there wide smiles and slick gestures. It was freaky to watch. Especially the whole "song" that kids sung in tribute to them, and the not being able to speak. But, I was also quite scared by Adam's first victory against Buffy, Riley and the Initiative. And...before he became the actual villain...the Master. In the first few episodes...especially "nightmares"...he was freaky. But when he finally faced Buffy he lacked in movement, and was quite weak. Erasing the fear!

Oh man. Seriously? For me? That would be The Gentlemen from Hush, and Gnarl from Same Time, Same Place. For The Gentlemen it was just the inability to be able to scream because, well, your voice was stolen. The way they float, their smiles, it's all very scary and you imagine yourself put into the victim's shoes - it's horrific. Gnarl with his taunting, and for eating the skin off his victims was also very terrible.

Sid has always creeped me, but not really scare me all that much.
The 2 that I find the most scary are Gnarl (I can never look at the screen when he's tearing off Willow's flesh), and Der Kindestod.

I think Dark Willow was pretty darn scary. I wouldn't want to get on her wrong side. And also Warren because he proves that there's nothing supernatural about being evil. That episode where he murdered his ex-gf Katrina was bordering on real-life scary.

Well I would definitely say the gentlemen and really all of the rest that have been mentioned....what about Moloch from I, Robot...You Jane? While he wasn't really scary, he definitely had a creepy look to him and the whole luring Willow is was majorly creepy lol.

The scariest villain by far for me was the doctor in I Fall to Pieces. That episode freaked me the hell out. I had to sleep with the light on for a night or two. I just always remember the detached eyeballs watching her.
The Gentleman were scary, and so were Gnarl and Der Kinderstod, but it wasn't anything that stuck with me.
