I haven't introduced anyone to Buffy yet..... I'm kind of disappointed in myself.

I tried oh so much to convert my sister, though, sadly, she is a very stubborn girl! I did, however, successfully convert one of my instant messenger friends. It was a proud day for me, really. ;D

After I'd finished the series, I made my sister sit down and watch it all - and she got hooked.
My other sister was adamant that she wouldn't watch, and pretended to 'hate' it cos she felt left out XD But then she came into the room when we were watching Once More With Feeling - saw Spike singing and was all "Ooh, sexy person on the TV, must watch" - so now she loves BtVS as well.
Got her to watch AtS when it was airing re-runs on the Sci-Fi channel, too.

I tried to convert my sister but she doesn't pay attention or cares very much when it's on. I also wrote long emails to friends explaining exactly WHY they need to get into Buffy and Angel, but that so far has not worked. Hmmm... I only know one person who started watching Buffy recently, and I like to think I nudged him along, but I'm pretty sure he just discovered it on Hulu and thinks SMG is a babe. But I give myself points for nudging.

What's worked for me in the past when trying to get people to watch, is to pick out one thing that would work as a hook for them specifically, and tell them about it. For that one person I converted, who then become a hardcore fan, it was relating Faith's experience to her own. She watched and then had to know more, which meant she started watching the other eps. Someone in their late 30s or older might be interested if you mention that the guy that plays Giles was that handsome, English, Folger's coffee guy from that commercial in the 80s (seriously, he was a superfox and everybody remembers him). Or someone who watches Bones, might be interested to know David got his start on Buffy when he was like 19, and then show them his eps. For someone looking for a positive romantic relationship between two women (or any g/l characters), ask them if they've ever heard of Willow & Tara. There is a lot of truth to the line in that song. "The hook brings you back." So if you just think of the one thing that that person would like, that's the hook. In my experience, going on and on about how awesome the show is and how complex or funny or dark or thematic it is, isn't going to net a conversion as easily as telling them the sexy guy from the Folger's commercial is in it.

Just started watching the series with another friend who wanted to give it a try. I wish a had a friend to do this with everytime I finish with another. I just love seeing their reactions and hearing their thoughts as they watch. Like we just watched Witch: - "I think it's Amy. She seems way too obsessed." - "No. It's her mom cause she wants her daughter to achieve." - "It's still her mom. Her skin turned blue because they are related." - "Oh my god they switched!" Makes me wish I could watch the series again from scratch.

I've joked before that I wish I could have selective amnesia about the Whedonverse so I could watch it all again with new eyes.

Haha yeah. "Selective" being a key word. I'd hate to forget what it means to me.

I’m in the process of converting my boyfriend, he just gave me the chosen collection for our 5 years anniversary and this past weekend we watch the first 4 episodes.
i just love to see him watch the series. At least for me it represents so many happy times in my life that it is super awesome to be able to share it with him.
He is still calling the series ridiculous, but little does he know what is up ahead.
I did watch the whole series back in the day with my mom and brother. Also i have converted a friend of mine from law school.
And that's about it. I've been more successful with dr. horrible for some reason and I’m about to introduce my boyfriend to firefly also.
Oh oh and I did pick up the deal of the day from Amazon when the angel collection was at 50 dollars! That one is on queue up until the moment we reach the Buffy 4th season and the madness will start, swapping DVDs and comics and so forth!

Turns out Jada Pinkett-Smith is a BtVS fan. Or so she claims in the August 2009 (Vol 28, No. 12) edition of Shape magazine (my room-mate's, not mine... I'm just a notorious magazine flicker). She says: "Some people call it campy; I think it's crazy genius."

I remember her saying that if they are bored and have nothing to do, the whole family will just watch Buffy and Angel. She was on Regis and Kelly once and she told a story about how the only way her son would go to the Academy Awards was if he got to meet Sarah Michelle Gellar. I think that's pretty awesome.

Never knew about about Jada Pinkett-Smith being a Buffy fan. That's pretty awesome.
Personally I've converted my boyfriend, my dad and my mother. My Mom has only seen up to first couple episodes of BTVS season 6 & the end of Angel season 2. Ironically enough I introduced my boyfriend to Buffy & Angel and then afterward he pulled out his Firefly DVD and got me hooked on that.
I also wish I could claim my old roommate as a convert as well, but while I got her to sit down and watch episodes of Buffy with me, she never really got into the show or expressed any desire to watch Angel. She managed to slip away.

I'm a recent convert myself, so I haven't had time to convert anyone. I only started watching in May of this year. And I sorta did it backward...I watched Angel first and I have 4 episodes left to watch and I'll be done with Buffy also.

*** we saw episode 5 season 1 - we are watching 2 episodes per weekend...
sue: tears of joy!
we also watched the first firefly episode and he was like hell no this is no bsg, and when we finished the episode he was sold to the series.

My dad is the only person I've actually converted, but since watching I've found that five or six of my somewhat distant friends are fans, so that's cool.
